  • I'm sadly not aware of any bands that we can say for certain are ACTUALLY from another world, so instead let's just talk about a few that sound like they are.
    Albums/artists that are discussed/mentioned:
    Soul Coughing - Ruby Vroom
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
    Pixies - Doolittle
    My Dead Girlfriend - Hades
    Deerhunter
    Sparklehorse
    Joy Division
    Massive Attack
    The Afghan Whigs
    Slint - Spiderland

If you haven't already given them a listen, I would like to recommend the japanese psychedelic noise rock band Les Rallizes Dénudés. Their music and entire presence as a band has this intensely palpable otherworldly mystique. One of my favorite ways to experience their music is looking up their lives on youtube, of which there are many. A lot of the footage from these lives is scuffed to all hell and it feels insanely surreal. Lead guitar Mizutani is, imo, one of the most underrated guitarists ever. He never plays a song the same way twice; it's pure expression, and he's able to evoke something from the guitar that is out of this world.

I just randomly came across your channel through the algorithm and I’m really enjoying all your videos.
I wanted to take a second to think about something which I think your work is touching on. It seems very clear to me, and this is something I spoken about at length with a musician friend of mine, that the relationship between the actual sound the singer and making and the lyrics is an extremely integral part of music that can make this kind of world building. NMH’s In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is a fantastic example. The album simply wouldn’t be the same with those kind of “stretching-in-the-wrong-way” vocals you mention. While the lyrics are sort of unintelligible almost the sounds he makes are so resonant.
Another album which kind of does this for me is Gambino’s Because the Internet; the range of Gambino’s voice and the way he stretches it across these different kinds of analog and electronic sounds really create this specific quality and build a world surrounding one’s own digital presence.
Thinking about this relationship between the sounds of the singer and the lyrics and how one might take the backseat to bring something out in the music or they work together harmoniously or whatever other outcome is possible is something I’d love to hear you talk about. Keep up the awesome work.

I think Surfer Rosa is a better album but I agree that Doolittle sounds more like "an album from another world". Surfer Rosa sounds like the dirtiest of our world, meanwhile Doolittle sounds more alien

The band and album that came to my mind first when hearing the term 'not from this world' is definetly _Vildhjarta - måsstaden under vatten_ .
For me, it's a dark fantasy story (the visuals of the individual songs, seen in the full album stream or on the prints in physical releases add to that), just like the ones I knew from my childhood; at least here in Germany, those stories and books, while being aimed at kids, always had something sinister and somewhat surreal, otherworldly to me, there too emphasized by a weirdly 'ugly' artstyle. And this album paints a story like that with a musical brush.
If you don't like metal vocals, there's also an instrumental version, however I do think the vocals are the cherry on top and you'd miss out not giving it a try.
For where to start if you'd only wanted to listen to one song, it's difficult. 'lavender haze' is the first song of this album and acts kind of like an Overture, I personally also really like 'brännmärkt', especially it's outro is something else.

Great video, your channel is a nice way to discover cool new music. If it isn't too much to bother, could you put the album names in your video descriptions?

My only take here is that, I think that music in other civilized planets could also just be the same music as ours. We just tend to incorporate unfamiliar things with other unfamiliar things (like these kinds of genres of music and other civilized planets). I would think that some people in other civilized planets would also wonder what could be the kind of music in other planets would sound like, and some of them could have also created these kinds of tunes to express their ideas of what it would sound like.

You mean that it sounds alien or it's super good, almost all of these are "indie rock" records xd, in both I think it's records like a Disco Volante or just The residents.

I goes Daft Punk fits in the same category as David Bowie. A bit too obvious.
