I live in south Louisiana and I will never have to shovel snow off my roof and I don't know why I'm watching this. However with that said now I want to go to Minnesota just to shovel snow off of someone's roof.
Yaima Martinez until you shovel very compacted snow it may seem satisfying. He probably spent more time shoveling the snow off his deck than off his roof. Snow is some heavy crap

I have a friend in Minnesota whose roof collapsed a few years ago from all the snow. He now has a heated coil system lining the inside of his roof and it works great. He never told his neighbors about it and he tells me they are always scratching their head wondering why he never has snow on his roof haha
Got mine today.Easy to assemble. Much faster and easier than a ordinary roof rake. I'm 68 and cleared my garage and breezeway quickly........ 1 1/2 to 3 ft snow. Well worth the cost.........2/9/15
First time that thing went all wonky and landed one of those bricks on me, I'd be cutting that rope. And the snowshoes only work well with snow UNDER them. 20 pounds of snow on them makes moving a pain.

I used to make these out of 1"schedule 40 PVC in the 90's here in Utah. I used cold rolled steel or all thread as uprights to cut the snow along the sides all the way through to the surface, not just undermine it. Also used 6mil plastic as the sliding surface but didn't attach it so the snow just slid down the roof then straight down so I didn't get buried. They were collapsible so I'd transport them in my truck and go up into the mountains & knock on doors to see who wanted their roof cleared of snow after a big storm. Got up to $600 a roof. Not a bad gig!!

We had a version of this back in the mid 80's called the avalanche( $40 back then). This looks to be a better design with the plastic sheet held in place to the handle. The problem with the sheet hanging free is the wind could catch it and it would twist. The avalanche got lost in several moves but I plan on replacing my roof rake with this model.
I just bought an Avalanche and I'm 100% satisfied. I don't like the fact that the plastic sheet is tethered to the handle of the Roof Razor. As you can see in this video, it causes the snow to catapult into the users face!
You need to listen to the man in the video. He elected to only attach 3 of the 4 six-foot pools as there was a building close behind him. If he had used all 4 six-foot poles he would have been well away from the snow coming off the slide. The attached slide allows the snow to be dropped away from the side of the building. If you want the snow dropped off the edge then just do not bring the slide off the roof.
I'm curious, with that amount of snow on your roof, how much extra weight do you estimate the roof has bearing down on it? The tool is absolutely ingenious and well thought out.
Well given your comment is over 3 years old I am not sure how helpful this is but each cubic foot of snow is about 20 pounds if it is compacted. Lightly packed snow can weight about 1 pound per square foot. This snow appears to be rather compacted so I would error on 20 pounds. The steeper the roof the more the roof can hold per given board size. The key thing to remember is the force being applied will always be less than 20 pounds as you do have the angle of the roof but that does mean most new buildings need to have an engineer at least peak at the roof structure. Common engineer rafters have a span chart per given live load of rain/snow along with the size of boards. For instance my house could easily be built with 2x4 at a 3/12 pitch even with the high amount of snow as the width of the house is under 30 feet. Although the house is designed differently and as a result would require a 5/12 as the main roof spans the length of the house not the width.

Very cool device !! We have snow here at the beach in Ocean City , Maryland and it does accumulate on roofs . It usually melts then freezes and then melts again in the form of DANGEROUS ICE SHEETS that slide off roofs un- expectantly !!! From a safety standpoint , it's best to get the snow off the roof at the outset . What a simplistic but ingenious tool !!! Believe it on not , I am just one of a handful of guys who do SNOW removal . 35 inches? That's crazy. I live in Boise, Idaho and we just got around 15-18 inches over the last week. Broke records. We haven't had this amount of snow on the ground at one time since 1985.

This thing seems to work great with a massive amount of snow on your roof, but does it work well with just a foot or so? I’ve gotten an ice dam this year, and I need to rake off the roof before I put calcium chloride socks up there.
It's kind of like Oregon has its 12 month rain festival :-) But here on the California central coast we have perfect weather (oh, you read the news? Yeah, it's raining..).
And once you've done that....you go get the shovel and remove it from the deck. Following that....you get the plow and move it out of the way. Just kidding....this actually looks like a BADASS invention, I'm diggin it. I live in Utah which it'd be great but most houses here might be too tall for the tool.
There should be taller vertical blades attached to either side of the roof part to slice up deeper snow and make it work a little more reliably in situations like this

I am from the Southern part of India where it never snows. Watching the snow come off in blocks was good. Will covering the entire roof with that material on which the snow slides, not work? So that the snow does not get accumulated in the 1st place and it just slides off as and when it snows.
I have one, have used it on snow of varied depth and which is fairly solid. This is a rare case where my experience has matched what is shown in a demo.. I may find little use for my roof rake
It works great if you only have snow BUT if you have periods of rain that soaks the snow then cold temperatures afterwards that freeze and harden it, you then have a whole different problem. This won't push through very hard snow. I had an Avalanche that worked the same and I eventually just gave it away. I live just west of Montreal Quebec and this winter 2018-2019 has just been miserable what with lots of snow followed by freezing rain them straight rain then very cold temperatures to solidify everything.

Do you have a hard time gripping the pole? I do! What would you recommend putting on the pole so that one is able to grip it better? Take a 3/8" rope, like a clothes line, and tie it to the top where the pole meet the top. Spiral the rope around the pole about 1 or 2 inch spacing as you come down. Cut the excess rope off and duct tape it off to keep it on. Your welcome. Cheers
I had a trick I used when I used to remove snow from mobile home roofs with a snow rake. Drill 1/4" holes about 2' apart (or whatever your arm spacing on the handle is) and insert 1/4" hex head bolts just long enough to protrude out the other side of the handle and lock the bolt down with a 1/4" nutsert (the nut with nylon interlocking thread). The hex head and nut are rounded so they won't rip your gloves or hands but protrude just enough on the handle for you to get a good grip on the handle. Works in ice conditions and snow. Hope it helps.
I suppose this depends on the density of the snow & whether or not powdery which would not come off in blocks, or an icy mix which would be difficult to remove under any circumstances.

I was fixated on this clip. I kept watching thinking it would all fall off over the man, but then I realised it didn’t and how much I was actually enjoying watching it.
It does insulate. However if removing the snow from the roof causes any insulation problems then your house isn't very well insulated. Also if you left that amount of snow on the roof you might be not insulated at all when the roof is damaged.

He is standing on snow on the ground. What would you use ropes for? I think you must not live in snow country. The idea is to keep heat from escaping through the roof as with any building.

In reality, the slow escape of heat, forms and makes ice between shingles which can cause severe damage, even more so when it melts and refreezes! If you have a medal roof the snow will slide off easier, but until it does the snow weight is immense, especially if it melts and refreezes! Our house has a 120 lb snowload per square foot, obviously a very expensive solution!

cut the string that keeps it on the pole and then the snow will just slide down to the roof edge and fall...not on you.

The one problem I see is that you need to be fairly close to the height of the eaves. I doubt it would work when you are 8 ft below the eaves.

Honest question, does removing the now make the house colder, ie snow is a great insulator right?
It does insulate. However if removing the snow from the roof causes any insulation problems then your house isn't very well insulated. Also if you left that amount of snow on the roof you might be not insulated at all when the roof is damaged.

He is standing on snow on the ground. What would you use ropes for? I think you must not live in snow country. The idea is to keep heat from escaping through the roof as with any building.

In reality, the slow escape of heat, forms and makes ice between shingles which can cause severe damage, even more so when it melts and refreezes! If you have a medal roof the snow will slide off easier, but until it does the snow weight is immense, especially if it melts and refreezes! Our house has a 120 lb snowload per square foot, obviously a very expensive solution!
