I'm pretty new and I didn't even think about this, my favorite sunglasses are silver wired with orange mirrored lenses. I'm so sad that I won't be able to wear them, thank you for covering this so I know.
@@Redberryweo Googles are issued in desert and high dust conditions by military and required for field work next to helicopters and off airport transport.
Thank you for the regs. One thing that was not covered was for cadets and service members who wear glasses that are conservative but have transition lenses. Personally I was a cadet from wayyy back in the early ‘90s plus a veteran of the US Army. While I’m the Army I had LASIK-PRK. Since then everything is brighter in all light conditions. Being that it has now been 18 years I have had to start wearing glasses with transition lenses. What is CAP regs for those glasses? I am asking for my son who also wears glasses full time with the same lenses?
I would say it depends on how much gray there is and what shade of gray. If it's a light gray that takes up a majority of the frame, then I would say no. If the gray is for the nose piece and for comfort sitting on your ears (and would be pretty concealed), then I would say yes. CAPR 39-1 says, "frames may be black or brown material or gold or silver wire."
I honestly never knew there was anything on them. During formations or anything unless walking around I never wear mine. I put them inside my pocket. Good to know. Thank you!
I wore Official Air Force Issue Smoke Style Aviator Sunglasses 😎. During the summer down here in Texas you might need them the sun can shine directly into your eyes.
@Redberryweo: Thank you, once again. I'm going to be supervising a few Cadets at an outdoor aviation event soon. I'm not used to working with Cadets, so I can impress them by knowing the sunglasses regs LOL. They're not from my squadron, and I wanna give 'em a few funny surprises, because they might think us Senior members are clueless haha. Should be fun.

Gogles are permitted for vehicles or flight(non polarized with side protection.
There is no mention of goggles in CAPR 39-1 from what I have seen. Could you share your reference?

No one is supposed to wear sunglasses in formation unless there is a medical reason an individual needs to wear them.

CAPR 39-1 says transition lenses may be worn in formation for medical reasons, including LASIK!
If the sunglasses have a mix of grey and black frame, are they still allowed.

No, at least not in most situations
