Hey Mel!!! Could you do a video on products to use for the summer??!! Like what products are good for protecting the hair from the sun and so on!! Thank you and love all your videos!!!
Hi Mel, First off let me start off by saying what a great job both you & your sister do each week....I’ve learned a lot about understanding my hair. I know that both you & Amanda have higher porosity hair, & therefore you both use products that contain protein......however I’m currently suffering from a case of protein overload. I was wondering if you could be so kind as to do a video on protein free products, as I, struggling on finding products that contain no protein. I’ve watched your other videos on balancing protein vs moisture, & they have been very useful on my journey so far. I’m also from Toronto, so Canadian friendly too please & thank you!! 😊

I still sometimes get confused when I see an SLS free shampoo paired with a conditioner with silicone. But I don't know much about amodimethicone.
Today was graduation day at our school and with your tips, I was able to manage to be frizz free, voluminous and defined curls. Everyone asked me if that’s my hair or if it’s chemically enhanced. I was flattered that my hair looked that good that they thought it was chemically treated.

I would love to see you use the LUSH new curly hair brand. I have been using the co-wash and the curl power conditioner and the curl power cream (leave in cream) for the last couple months and I love it and it smells super delicious! I use the kinky curly custard as my gel (that is my holy grail) and then when I need to clarify I use the Malibu C recommended by you! LUSH's leave in cream is thicker and they say you can use it as a hold product alone so sometimes ill use it after the curl smiths light as a feather leave-in if I am going for a simple no cast look... but you've been on the whole vegan, cruelty free product support train and this is exactly that so I thought i'd comment the suggestion for the next review (:

The Twist side definitely came out better! I wonder tho how well both sides would have done with some gel. Either way, great video Mel...I'll have to check out the Twist products. 😊
I found you at 1am this morning 😭 it’s 10am & I’m back watching your videos! I have super curly natural hair I absolutely never liked it so I would go to the Dominicans every 2 weeks faithfully but lately I’ve been researching to find the perfect products it gets soooo dry so quickly & it shrinks fast. I find it amazing how it curls up perfectly still!
You always try all types of products. That is fantastic. You also say often that you do not prefer drugstore products. What is the difference between drugstore and non drugstore versions. What sets them apart? How can we tell if something is worth the extra money? Thanks for all the hard work you guys do. ☺
I just stumbled onto Twist last week at my Walmart in the clearance section. I had never seen it there before and I look at hair stuff a lot so it was a big surprise to me but it's by Ouidad so I felt good getting 3 items for $5 each. I tried them and was so impressed I went back the next day and cleared out what they had left so I could stock up and save $$$ in the long run. I think Twist is a fantastic budget option for great curls!
Its so funny cuz I, just today, had to run to Walmart and I'm pretty sure I saw a bunch of these twist ones, but loads of different colors(maybe I'm wrong), and since I can't afford anything but a bit of food, I didn't dare look too much or I'd pine too hard 😆😁 but now I look forward to having them on my list to try!! I also just saw a dry shampoo that was for brown hair...2 actually, so they have a brown tint, one more cool brown and the other and warmer reddish brown...though I'm sure you knew that already 😊 but the heritage dry shampoo was crazy!!! This was awesome!! Have you ever tried the 'Fruit of the Earth ', think that's the brand, of aloe vera juice you can buy cheap in the pharmacy section for your hair? I've seen it used for leave in, or detangling or in your conditioner....wondered if that is real or just people trying to make junk up for likes :) Thanks so much!!! You and your seester are the BEST!! 🥰🥰
I love the hairtage by mindy curl cream and leave in but both need a gel or a mousse on top to create hold for sure!! The curl cream does better in humidity where as the leave in is a mess in humidity because of the glycerin
I love the Twist hair gel. It’s my everyday gel. Because it’s made by Ouidad, it’s very similar to Ouidad Curl Shaper™ Out Of Thin (H)air Volumizing Jelly~ You definitely need to try it. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I’m going to definitely try the curl creme. Thanks for reiterating Why I like the Monday shampoo ~ 😉
I want to thank you. I knew my hair was curly but didn’t know what texture. You’ve helped me find my texture and my hair actually looks curly now. Thank you so much!
I’ve been eyeing up the Twist brand for a while now and I’m so glad you did this review! I trust your recommendations and can’t wait to try this brand now.
I am getting the craziest cast...all the time. No matter which gel I'm using. Any tips how I can avoid it? I really love having a cast but sometimes I prefer not having too hard of a cast. And just a cream is not enough for my wavy texture. Love you Mel. You're my go to for ever when it comes to hair and humor hehe❤️
Yessss battle of the products! I have been tempted 2 try out the Monday shampoo and conditioner and now I will definitely buy. I have not heard of the other products but I definitely can't wait 2 try the twist hair products, especially now with all the humidity that's coming. "Stop moving your head" 😂😂😂
At first the Hairitage side looked better but then three days later… plot Twist, the other side held up better. Show us your results with Twist gel! And maybe a different leave in from Twist.
Lol, the smell test cracks me up......I’m all about a lighter fresh scent. Even though there is no room in shower and my vanity looks like a hair product aisle at the store, I am getting the Monday shampoo and conditioner and Twist products.
Right now it’s 1:45am and I’m watching your videos. I love all you do for us, both you and your seester. I’m a older hairdresser and am still always looking for updated advice. Thanks so much. You and Amanda are beautiful….but I am jealous that you both have all that gorgeous hair. I’m 2C/3A fine, low density broad that wishes you both a beautiful life ❤️👍🏼
I LOVE the Hairitage curl creme but I ALWAYS use a gel with it haha. I usually use dippity do or the ouidad heat and humidity stronger hold gel 😊 Also Hairitage has a brunette dry shampoo now
Hiya! Good video! Can you please do a video on some quick humid weather hair styles when the hair is feeling poofy and frizzy and not defined? Thank you!
Great Review!!! I avoid the Haritage bc strong fragrances are a no-no for me as a migraine person but the Twist line sounds good 👌🏼. I like that it has different levels of moisture 💦
Hey Mell, I'm curious to know whether you are planning on making an update to summer beach/pool hair care? I've seen on trend on YT where people recommend using oil/LIC before getting into pools and the ocean, but no one talks about the oil streaks and spills that happen from that and was curious to know your take on it. These things negatively impact the actual pool (ex: PH levels and pool chemistry, which costs A LOT of money to repair) and can be harmful in the ocean because LIC's and oils are not naturally derived in the ocean and can cause choking and chelating to reefs. I'd love to hear your take on protecting hair, while also being respectful of other people's pools (ex: not ruining another person's pool and potentially causing friends to have to spend money to repair damage done bc of hair trends about hair health) and being conscious of taking care of the Earth. Thank you :)
I would love to see a Maple Holistics AND Shiny Leaf reviews. I believe they don't have a line of styling products though. Only Shampoos and Conditoners BUT Shiny Leaf does have big bottles of Oils(castor oil,Almond Oil,and Coconut Oil) for a DIY scalp & hair massages, DIY Deep conditioners, and body use too.
Thank you for this review! I especially appreciate how you talk about the scents. You don’t just say it’s good or bad, but what & how strong. That helps someone like me who is very fragrance sensitive.
I love your videos! You really know what your talking about and it's help my hair journey alot! Thank you for being a place of fun and happiness where I find myself giggling AND super educational!☺️🤗
Enjoyed watching this, I have to check out that Monday line. I just got the Shea moisture manuka honey and yogurt line, and it's the best smell of all the product smells I've ever smelled...if that makes since. My hair feels amazing!!!
Do you feel the Monday products were good and not drying on your scalp? I’m still looking for a shampoo and conditioner that doesn’t make my scalp itchy. I’m also excited to try the Twist products! They seem to be the best choice. 👍🏼👍🏼
I'm a recent subscriber and I'd just like to say that I love your channel! You have helped my hair so much and your videos are so funny and helpful! Thank you so much to you and your seester for every amazing texture Tuesday and I look forward to all of the new videos!!
Love the comparison! I hate ordering hair care products and prefer things I can buy at the store or Ulta. One product by hairitage that you didn’t try is the texturizing spray. I love to use it for volume on refresh days. I agree that the scent is a bit intense though :)
That hairitage line is so heavily fragranced and I don’t normally mind a little fragrance. It was too baby or my hair to…I have fine hair. May give the twist line a try. Thanks for sharing!
Never a dull day... ❤ (Or video... ☺) We, dyed hair curls...gel is a must! But I will add, your hair was quite nice in this "experiment" I was surprised. You may have bleached hair, but it's one of the most taken care of 100%. CONGRATS!
Omg! I love a hard gel cast. I can get so many more days from my wash. I tried just using a scalp salt scrub for my wash and no shampoo because it lathered. It was the Everyone scrub. It didn’t work. My scalp was oily the next day. Back to the double cleanse.
Definitely the Twist side. Your curls are so much more defined and curly. I also love the smell of twist. I just started using their products and so far so good.
Thank you for this video. I loved the affordability and effectiveness of these products! The Twist products worked exactly as shown in this video. I got soft fluffy curls!! Excellent curl pattern!!
I like how you inform what type of leave in conditioners for what hair type(coarse, thick use tube creams and leave in conditioner and thin, fine strands a lighter cream &leave in con ditoner, etc) BUT what recommendations for very fine hair strands that is also coarse? Most hair companies thinks coarse strands are thicker width but I have baby fine width strands(I cannot feel a handstand between fingers) low density(I don't have much hair at all) I can make 2 sections which covers my entire head and the sections aren't even as big as a quarter. Maybe nickel size and any more then 2 sections when sectioning I then would have maybe 4 dime size sections. My very low density, baby fine hair is also coarse.
I live in dry Phoenix Arizona. I have been using Not your mothers line which is ok. My hair has been so dry lately. It needs extra moisture. My hair seems to suck up the product I put in it. I also have been wearing the bonnets you and seester wear overnight. I find that it messes up my curls; I have to redo my hair the next day if I want to wear it down. My hair shrinks up a lot during the night. I have to figure out a new nighttime routine. When I 🍍 , overnight I have a line in the middle of my hair and I still have to redo it. My hair also stands up in the air. My hair is a little past my shoulders. My hair has become thin/fine because of medication and tangles easily.
Happy Texture Tuesday!! So excited for this cause I actually just picked up the hairitage curl cream haven't tried it yet and the dry shampoo which I loved but I have the magic dust texturizing powder that doesn't leave a white residue you should try that one lol!! Thanks!! Much love and happiness!!! Xoxo 😘
Hi Mell! Thanks a lot for your videos, they've really helped me enhance my curls. Just a suggestion for a future one: summer is really hot in my area (south of France) and the hot air really seems to drain all the moisture from my curls, so that they feel like straw. A video about tips and tricks to keep our hair hydrated even during summer would be great (after the "cold curls" series, why not do the "hot curls" one?
I tried the twist products today and love my hair! Thanks so much! I was looking for something that was lightweight as I have very fine hair. It did the trick.
Okay Mell, hair question. I have been using a lot of wonderful moisturizing products, styling my curls and they've turned out super defined! However, I'm still getting some frizz on the top and sides of my head. My ends look great, but I can't seem to figure out why even after refreshing my curls, they still get this frizz. Any advice??
it's new growth! The hairs we loose everyday eventually grow back and theyre not quite long enough to find themselves in a curl! Try using a pomade, gel, or hairspray to hold those pesky hairs in place!
My favorite gel ever was marketed wrong as a straightening gel. I haven't found anything since that I like as much. It was Graham Webb's Back to Basics Green Tea Smoothing elixir gel. They took it off the market and I bought a case of it before it started going for ridiculous prices on ebay. I opened my last tube for my 2nd oldest son's wedding and have been saving the rest of the tube for another son's wedding next spring. I wonder if they've brought it back.... Hmmm.
One of my favorite days of the week!! Texture Tuesday! 😍 Mel I have a question that I'm sorry if I sound dumb for asking but I'm learning so many new things from you guys I have to ask! lol Are we not supposed to run our fingers through our strands when we wash?? I noticed most people on YT only show washing their scalp but I'm like what about the strands?? 😳 Lol I could be completely wrong and maybe it's just edited out but it's something I've been very curious about for a long time bc I always run my hands through all of my hair when I wash. Again sorry if this is a dumb question but I had to ask. I need my hair to look as beautiful as you guys 💕❤️ much love from Houston!!
Hey I’m not mell but I wanted to help 😂❤️. When shampooing is super important to concentrate on the scalp cause that where is the most dirty cause of build up and natural oils on ur hair, hence why most UA-cam curly hair videos do it. However, when shampooing is better to not directly shampoo the strands of our hair since they tend to be more drier than the scalp. I personally when shampooing I concentrate on scalp and as I am rinsing it off I clean my strands. And depending on what my hair has been trough, cause sometimes is dirtier than others, I put a little tiny bit of shampoo oh my hair strands to clean it better. So In resume, 😂 it is not wrong to run ur fingers through ur strands just try not to put direct shampoo on them on every washday cause it could dry ur hair more. ❤️hope this helped 🥰
Mell, love your videos and the great fun information you give to Curly Girls (and boys) You always make me smile... thanks for doing what you do... from a fan and a fellow Curly Hairdresser x
Hey mell . I have a serious problem . My roots are always frizzy and my hair dries so fast like as soon as I am out of the shower it is almost dry . And one more thing I swear you read thoughts bc I always watch Brooklyn and Bailey and cute girl hairstyles and thought about recommending hairatage for the battle of the brands 😂😂
Hi Arwa!! Didnt you know I read minds? :P For your hair issues, make sure youre using a shampoo that feels right to you. If your shampoo is too drying it can leave you frizzy but on the other hand if you have lots of oiks/product buildup and your shampoo isnt properly cleansing, it will be hard o properly moisturize. SO, make sure you figure out the right shampoos for you by watching last weeks video: ua-cam.com/video/22uJ5Jv3ehM/v-deo.html & then try applying your styling products in the shower so catch em while theyre fresh! I hope that helps

Hey Mell! Thank you soooo much for helping me with my 3A curls. Both parents are straight haired and I've never known how to deal with it. I do have a wee question for you if it's OK. How do we deal with wind and curls? Do I have to tie my hair up all the time to stop the frizz? A little bit of info: I live in Scotland so non windy days are a rarity here (we also have alot of rain). I've tried ultra hold/strong gel and mousse (and together) and I still come out looking like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards. I really don't want to live indoors or be out with a hat on all the time. Thank you so much in advance 🙏 😊

Definitely "Twist"! I have fine, dense, hair, and I know it would be fine for me! Thanks Mel❣️
I've seen it used for leave in, or detangling or in your conditioner....wondered if that is real or just people trying to make junk up for likes :)
Thanks so much!!! You and your seester are the BEST!! 🥰🥰
The curlies are going to have to get over their fear of crunch because I need to know what them gels do.
I love the hairtage by mindy curl cream and leave in but both need a gel or a mousse on top to create hold for sure!! The curl cream does better in humidity where as the leave in is a mess in humidity because of the glycerin
can you test not your mothers vs maui moistures please? also i love your videos❤️❤️💕
I wish you also tried the gel for each line. But still nice to see how some of the products from each line work.
I want to thank you. I knew my hair was curly but didn’t know what texture. You’ve helped me find my texture and my hair actually looks curly now. Thank you so much!
U should totally try the twist gel. I use it with the cream and get great results
Yes love the drugstore recommendations! Like you said accessible and affordable, that's key for me 🙌🏼
Yessss battle of the products! I have been tempted 2 try out the Monday shampoo and conditioner and now I will definitely buy. I have not heard of the other products but I definitely can't wait 2 try the twist hair products, especially now with all the humidity that's coming. "Stop moving your head" 😂😂😂
Just purchased Twist with your code! Thank you ☺️ Definitely rewatching your vids to get back curls back 🥺
At first the Hairitage side looked better but then three days later… plot Twist, the other side held up better. Show us your results with Twist gel! And maybe a different leave in from Twist.
Oh yay! I was just noticing all the options this week at Walgreens and so overwhelmed!
I usually use dippity do or the ouidad heat and humidity stronger hold gel 😊
Also Hairitage has a brunette dry shampoo now
Thank you for my curly wavy hair journey advice! You’re very much appreciated.
Hiya! Good video!
Can you please do a video on some quick humid weather hair styles when the hair is feeling poofy and frizzy and not defined? Thank you!
Hairstyles are coming right up! Make sure you see this video in the meantime: ua-cam.com/video/puLSVfamQS0/v-deo.html
Can you try the upside down method for curly hair. Your vids have been really helpful. Thx ☺️ soo much
Please try Twist by Ouidad’s 4-in-1 cowash! I’m curious about it since it’s a cowash, conditioner, leave-in, AND a styling cream!
Please review some products for camille rose. They always smell amazing.
These have been on my list so long they might have to be next!
@@ManesByMell yes! Please do a comparison of camille rose and mielle organics!
Happy Texture Tuesday Seesters! Would you review Ecoslay products in a video please?! You girls are the BEST!!
I don’t know if it was me or if it has to do with the product but I notice that before adding the dry shampoo, the twist side looked more frizzy
My hair feels amazing!!!
oooo on my way to the store now can wait to try some of the twist products thank you mell!!!
(Or video... ☺)
We, dyed hair curls...gel is a must!
Just what I needed before washday Wednesday!!
Woohoo I'm just styling my hair now super excited for this
Thank you for this video.
Awe man I wish this video came out last week I would have bought the Monday to try!
I will have to remember for the next time!
@@ManesByMell a video looking at what new growth looks like. I would volunteer if I was closer. I’m 8 hours from Toronto.
Hmmm.
Happy Texture Tuesday 💜 !!! So excited to try these out Mell !!
I always get annoyed by the marketing the fear mongering but i rlly wanna try twist
Love your posts. Products are not always readily available in Australia, but I do google
@@alefish2475 that is super helpful! Thank you very much! I definitely have some tweaking to do in my routine 😂💕
Yay! I love your review! Would love to see your results with the Twist gel too. Thanks for the coupon code💕☮️
Mell, love your videos and the great fun information you give to Curly Girls (and boys) You always make me smile... thanks for doing what you do... from a fan and a fellow Curly Hairdresser x
Thanks for the great video!!💚😊💚😊. I just ordered the twist products. Can’t wait for them to get here!!
@@ManesByMell thanks for replying ❤️ I will make sure to check the video cause I didn't watch it completely and I think I use to much shampoo everytime I wash my hair bc I am afraid of getting buildup on my scalp but I guess I need to use less bc I have dry scalp and and to let my hair have moisture anyway thanks for being hair for me and other curly girls you are truly amazing and you're an inspiration for us not to mention that you're a lifesaver love ya and A manda a ma'am 😂😂❤️❤️
How is that even possible that's so strange. Do any of your siblings or cousins and their parents have curly hair?
I need help with this too!! I always struggle when it’s windy as well and would love to see how to prevent it. Commenting so if she replies I can see too :))))
@@aperson5261 Tie it up if it's too windy.
Girl thank you!! I been wondering!! The MOMENT THEY HIT THE SHELVES 🤣🤣
Could you do an updated video on hair growth tips? Your hair has grown so much since you cut it and I feel like mine refuses to grow!😭
I have wavy hair, my gf has curls like yours. We both live off hairitage! It's so versatile and can work for everyone depending on how you use it
