I always thought this song was about a man's devoted love to his woman, and maybe it is about that. Then my daughter was born, holding her in my arms as she slept gave this song a whole new meaning to me. One thing for sure is it's about that kind of unconditional, devoted love that you only feel with that someone really special. Some people never experience that and that is sad
The song was written for the movie Armageddon that Steven Tyler's daughter, Liv, was starring in. At first he didn't want to do it. Then he saw that it was going to be used in scenes with his daughter's character and her father in the movie as well as the romance scenes between her and her love interest in the movie. He sang it in a way that made it appropriate for both relationships imo.
Yeah, it fit her adult romantic relationship in the movie, but for him singing it, it felt like it came from the same kind of feelings that I know many parents have when thinking about their newborns.
@@danosverige I think that's possibly the influence of growing up with rap and hip hop, which like folk, is less music based and more lyric focused. Steven Tyler didn't even know Liv was his daughter until she was 11. She was raised by her mother and musician Todd Rundgren. Liv got suspicious after she met Steven when she was 11, and asked her mom about it, and the truth came out. Nobody else knew about it (it wasn't made public) until she was 14.
Funny enough one of the techniques he uses a lot in this song is actually called vocal cracking and it's that thing you're talking about. And then when his voice gets all gritty that is called vocal fry.

The song was written by Diane Warren, a professional songwriter who specializes in writing hits for slumping bands and movie soundtracks. So Steven Tyler really did do a convincing job making it seem personal.
Diane Warren wrote hits for DeBarge, Cher, Celine Dion, and LeeAnn Rimes. Warren has written nine number-one songs and 32 top-10 songs. Normal people: hear this song and think about Ben Affleck running animal crackers across Liv Tyler's belly in "Armageddon". People like me: hear this song and think of a much less UA-cam-appropriate scene in the Christina Applegate movie "The Sweetest Thing" where singing this song becomes and important plot point.
Ok I have been worshiping at the feet of Aerosmith, literally, since the 1970s when I was in high school. I have seen them live soooo many times. Front row seats at Steven Tyler, the Demon of Screamin’. Steven and Joe Perry, lead guitar, write the songs. Tom and Brad on bass and rhythm guitars and Joey on drums. Steven can do everything with his voice and he is a wild child of the 70s, perpetually in rehab, loves androgyny and performs live best when sober! Thankfully at 70+, he’s figured that out. I know y’all like lyrics but the official video is not blocked because it’s a movie soundtrack from the film Armageddon. Written by Diane Warren and nominated for an academy award. Aerosmith is in top ten rock bands of all time. They are legendary and if you don’t know Steven Tyler, you are missing out guys. If you ever get a chance to see them live, go! Never disappoints, even in his 70s.
This song was written for a movie but Steven Tyler has gone on record saying this song is about his daughters and his feelings on being a new father, he said when he saw his daughters he fell totally in love with them as a father should and he wrote this song
My favorite Aerosmith song. Just beautiful. This was in the movie Armageddon starring Steven Tyler's daughter Liv, Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck. Great movie as well.
This song was written by composer Diane Warren who had written hits for a number of major artists. It was made for the 1998 movie 'Armageddon' which had Liv Tyler (Steven Tyler's daughter) as the lead actress... she asked her dad to do the song, and after seeing the movie, he agreed...😁 It gave Aerosmith their first #1 single that year in their career.

This song was written specifically for & has always been about a father's love for his daughter. Its made even better that Steve Tyler(Aerosmith) wrote this for film armagedon staring his daughter Liv Tyler and with Bruce Willis playing her father(spoiler he dies in the film).
People like you spit so much bs that you don't even know what you're saying. Everything you said was just incorrect. Learn more before speaking, you won't look as foolish.
He is singing to his daughter, who was in the movie, Liv Tyler! It's a love song to his daughter!
Song still makes the hairs on my arms stand up
This song was featured in the movie "Armageddon" where Tyler's daughter "Liv Tyler" costarred with Ben Affleck.
Never disappoints, even in his 70s.
...i am getting tired
Lex is my spirit animal
Seen them in concert and they are awesome.
Give a listen to their MTV UNPLUGGED ! PRICELESS!!
Been a fan since 78!
Another good vocal performance from Steven Tyler is "What it Takes" Brad might also like.
Juicing an orange!! Such a great explanation.
This song was written for a movie but Steven Tyler has gone on record saying this song is about his daughters and his feelings on being a new father, he said when he saw his daughters he fell totally in love with them as a father should and he wrote this song
Bro, you got it correct. The dudes in love
My favorite Aerosmith song. Just beautiful. This was in the movie Armageddon starring Steven Tyler's daughter Liv, Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck. Great movie as well.
Hi Lex & Brad More Aerosmith take a listen to "angel". Enjoy
“Pink” is another good one
My wedding song. For real.
My wife and I got married to this song, she walked down the isle to this, and IT'S OUR 18TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY TODAY!!!! What a trip
What!!! Wow perfect timing! Congratulations!
"What It Takes" by Aerosmith is an amazing song you should try.

Diane Warren writes some great love songs. She's written many. Celine Dion, Aerosmith, Mark Chestnutt, many for Chicago.
It's such a beautiful song.
I love Steven's voice, this was my wedding song. ✌❤
this song is from the movie Armageddon which stars Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler's daughter Liv Tyler
Anyone else think about climbing a rocket ship as it takes off, with Pierce and Shaundi telling you goodbye, when you hear this song?
Those of you who know, know.
This are true Rockstars kudos to Steven with jazzers, they are the best musicians

Most of us didn't like all these songs the 1st time we heard it. Stay yourself. Everybody has their own way vibing to music, you don't have to dance or smile all the time.
