Brad & Lex, after B. I. G and Tupac passed away, P. Diddy covered this song in tribute to them. The song was named " I'll be missing you " featuring Eve, who is the voice you mentioned. Special guest on the track was Sting. The lead singer for the Police. That is why this song sounded familiar.

The one that tripped me out the most was when I heard Son Of A Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield on a golden oldies station. It was the beat and riff from Hits From The Bong by Cypress Hill. Blew my mind!
This song was about toxic relationships, Sting couldn't believe people used that song at weddings. But he tried to fix it with Free Free set them free. If you love someone set them free if they return it was meant to be if they don't it wasn't meant to be.

Sting was a school teacher and very smart. His lyrics blow you a way when you listen to them. One of my favorites is from "Wrapped Around Your Finger" when he uses "caught between scylla and charybdis" as a term to describe being caught between a rock and a hard place.
Sting is one of the best performers of our generation, you should check out “Englishman in New York” - he performed it live on the streets of NYC a few years back, you’d dig it 👍

It’s a sweet sounding song that goes totally into creepy stalking when you pay attention to the lyrics. The Police were short-lived, but amazing. Almost all of their tracks were huge hits before they split up. Sting (the singer) went on to have a very successful solo career. You should definitely check out more from the Police. Don’t Stand So Close to Me is a one with a clear story. Every Little Thing She Does is Magic is a great one. And Roxanne is an absolute classic. I love hip hop, but the original here is way better than the P Diddy and Faith Evans remake in tribute to Biggie.

I am glad that you guys picked up on the more sinister side of this song. You guys aren't wrong. Many people at the time, never heard past the pleasant melody. Another one of my favorites from Sting, is "Fortress Around Your Heart". It has a rather interesting video to go with it. I think there is a long version that tells a mini story. In the 80's, you never knew what you were getting, when you saw a video. Everyone had their own approach. In extremely rare circumstances, the video was related to the song in some way. Sometimes, they tried to be shocking. Sometimes, they tried to be funny. Often, they tried to be abstract. Videos were ways to make a song stand out & be memorable. Synchronicity II is kinda interesting, too.
The Police were my Eighties band for sure --- Love Love Love so many of their songs -- The Beds Too Big Without You -- Walking on the Moon -- Man in a Suitcase -- Cant Stand Losing You -- Wrapped Around Your Finger -- soooo much to choose from
Listen to Tone Loc song Wild Thing, then listen to Jamie's Cryin' by VanHalen. Van Halen was super pissed when they heard their riff being played on someone elses song but they sold the rights for audio sampling not knowing what they were doing. There was nothing they could do.
The Police, and later Sting, the lead singer, have a lot of good music, one of my top artists, combined I probably have more of their music in my collection than any other artists. They have a lot of variety to their sound so it doesn't all sound the same. "walking on the moon', "Roxanne" are just a couple Police songs to recommend, from Stings solo career, "Fields of gold" or "Shape of my heart" or "Dessert Rose"

Lots of comments saying how talented Sting and Stewart Copeland are. Uh. Andy Summers is a fantastic guitarist as well. He deserves some name checks as well.
Painful song to play. The stretch.
@@indignorant7684 You nailed. It sounds so simple though.
His work with Kevin Coyne shows his versatility, it's quite a contrast!
I wish i had Andy's guitar tone... it's easy once you realize his secret.
@@indignorant7684 Only guys who had to play this at school or somewhere else know the pain :D
Go for "Walking on the Moon", "Roxanne", "Don't stand so close to me" or "Message in a Bottle". You wont regret it.
Sting actually came out and sang w PUFF when he did an award show when his "I'll be missing you" song was released for Biggie. Song is quintessential 80's !!!
Yeah, that's when he got the idea to steal Puffy's beats I bet. Well, not steal, "sample".
Yea at the MTV awards !
I remember watching that live! I feel old! Haha
@@justinatest9456 who sampled who ??? Puff sampled the Police 15 yrs later - that was the big deal when Sting sung w Puff :)
@@justinatest9456 Police first. Big, big hit song in the early eighties.
Used by people as a Wedding song a lot. Apparently they didn't listen to the lyrics too closely!
Lex has a great sense of music and criticism.
His body reactions make it clear what triggered a hit in a song.
It's a delight to watch her react.
In French, we say she is "bon public".
And her looks at Brad are so cute ❤
"Every breath you take" is musically, certainly one of the most accomplished songs.
I love it and I love you.
Sting's solo career is also worth a listen. I'm very fond of his hit "Desert Rose."
I am 100% with you on that. I think Desert Rose is one of the most successful collabs with an achingly beautiful fusion of Middle Eastern music. Cheb Mami's vocals are spectacular. I will put in a link for

That is a double bass Sting was playing. This is definitely the original written by Gordon Sumner (Sting's real name).
But there's no double bass in the song, right?!
@@annother3350 right, double bass used just for the video.
Actually, the tune came from Andy Summers, and Sting doesn’t give the dude a dime from the PDiddy royalties, even though Andy Summers guitar riff is the only thing PDiddy used.
@@TheBicusnicus1Sting wrote the riff thank you
@@punns643 Nope.
you know Sting is a good song writer when he can write a song about a psycho stalker and make it sound romantic
Puff daddy and faith Evans did a version of this original when Biggie smalls died called Ill be missing you.
You two should react to a video called "33 songs you didn't know were covers" so many of the modern or famous versions we know aren't the original and it's really interesting, and you'll find some new artists you might enjoy.
What a great band. Storied history with these guys. Lots of friction, great music. You should do more. Stewart Copeland is one of the greatest drummers of all time.
I guess they have some of the best pop songs ever made.
Yes he is
Isn't he though!

@@da_blade5040 Yep. I know he did the score for the show Dead Like Me. One of my favorites!
When you said.. "and we've never even heard of The Police"... I almost choked.
So many new songs are remakes of the 70's and 80's songs because they were so good.
They were around the late 70’s to early 80’s but for that short time they had a huge catalog of awesome songs , they are on my list as top ten bands of all time. My favorite song”Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic”
Love your reactions Guys. I have to admit I was skeptical of Brad's reaction style at first...but he has converted me. (lol) Really like his analytical approach now! And Miss Lex is an awesome sweetheart! Keep on doin' it!
"A lot of music I've heard is not original. It's crazy."
"Right, it's crazy."
"So crazy."
"It's crazy!"
Queen/ vanilla ice.
Crazy? Not really.
Cynically opportunistic? Yes.
ROFL!
Probably been said already ( I didn't read all 1000+ comments already written), but this original song was released by the Police in 1982 and was #1 on the Billboard Chart for 12 straight weeks, ending up as # 1 for the year. It's that awesome.
It's a stand up bass. Old school used for Jazz (at least how I've seen it used), and yes this is the original. You can tell because it doesn't suck
It's called contrabass or double bass
@@playermartin286 awesome thank you. I've only heard it called a stand up
@@antemorph66 you’re welcome
Also used in early rock and roll because the first electric bass was released in 1951 but took a while to catch on.
Hilarious! Love your humor while spitting facts!
The one that tripped me out the most was when I heard Son Of A Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield on a golden oldies station.
It was the beat and riff from Hits From The Bong by Cypress Hill.
Blew my mind!
Where are you two from? How could you have never heard this!?!?!?! It is not possible! It blows me away every time I watch these videos.
Radio stations for younger generations dont play the classics
Yes I was just thinking the same thing, unbelievable 🤔
This song was about toxic relationships, Sting couldn't believe people used that song at weddings. But he tried to fix it with Free Free set them free. If you love someone set them free if they return it was meant to be if they don't it wasn't meant to be.
Oh wow, I thought it was a ghost looking after a loved one who was still alive...cool
Andy Summer's guitar is the signature sound of the Police. Lex' analysis was 100% spot on.
Um...beg to differ. Think if you ask most people, they'd say Stewart Copeland's drums and/or Sting's voice. This song is a particularly boring one from the standpoint of the drums, though Sting's voice is on display, of course.
@@joekuul8769 all the chord voicings are Summers. Without that color its a pretty mediocre song.
@@stevemd6488 For this song, yes. But you put forth that his guitar sound was the signature for the whole band (not just this song), and talented as he is, let's face it, he was the member who got (still gets?) the least amount of love.

Fun fact: Sting, the singer/bassist for The Police, was in the original Dune movie. Which has a new remake opening this weekend.
He was also in The Who movie Quadrophenia!
Linda Hunt of ncis los Angeles was also in the original Dune movie.
I have a first pressing of the 1986 Every breath you take "the singles" with original shrink wrap and hype sticker still (album in thumbnail). So many of their best songs on one LP!! Sting, Andy, Stewart!! ROCK ON!

Yes, Puff Daddy took it from the original version by the Police.

Thanks for the reaction!
And toto was rhe band on MJs Thriller album.

Went literally years without hearing this song (“It’s overplayed. They have other songs…”) Then one day, it comes on at work again, and by the last verse I remember thinking, “God that’s such a great song.”
Yep, this is the original. That’s why I don’t like “sampling” - the original is many times forgotten. And 99.9% of the time the original is better.
I agree. Almost always, the sampling is actually just outright plagiarism by no talent hacks whom lack the ingenuity to create their own material.
Yup, the sampling is simply an acknowledged "we have no original idea or musical abilities ".....it's a shame growing up listening to studio push button plagiarized garbage
Only 99.9%?

Sting is brilliant. Nothing Like the Sun is one of my favorite albums. Worth a listen, especially the song Fragile.
Best songwriter ever.
Fragile and also a Fields of Gold
Ive heard this song thousands of times since it came out in 1983 and that middle section, "Since you gone Ive been lost without a trace...." still gives me goose bumps! Amazing tune.
You might say you've never heard of the _Police,_ but I guarantee if you listen to more of their songs you'll realize you recognize many of their 'hits'. They were huge in the 80's.
The harmony at the end is incredibly moving and beautiful.
Sting was a school teacher and very smart. His lyrics blow you a way when you listen to them. One of my favorites is from "Wrapped Around Your Finger" when he uses "caught between scylla and charybdis" as a term to describe being caught between a rock and a hard place.
Fantastic ! You understand what this Song is About ! Many People don't understand the Lyrics and believe it's a Lovesong
Sting is one of the best performers of our generation, you should check out “Englishman in New York” - he performed it live on the streets of NYC a few years back, you’d dig it 👍
Agreed. Singing ( you drink coffee i take tea ) Englishman in new york
I saw this on UA-cam a few months back, but it was performed as a Tiny Desk Concert with Shaggy. The mixture of their voices on a single track was something I never knew I needed until I heard it. It was superb.
Bravo to Lex for nailing the meaning/subject of this song. It was totally treated like a love ballad when it came out...lol
"Fortress Round Your Heart" is an epic song from Sting's first solo album.
Sting’s solo stuff is all amazing!
EVERYTHING off the Dream of the Blue Turtles album is amazing! I love “The Russians”, “Moon Over Bourbon Street”, “Set Them Free”, Fortress Around Your Heart”, and even “Children’s Crusade” and “We Work the Black Seam”.
Dream of the Blue Turtles album is one of the most underrated albums ever. Fortress around your heart is one of my all time fav songs. Sting is gifted and delivers an Opus with this album
Nothing Sting has done is ever underrated. His new album comes out next month.
What a talent. Sting is the Man! One of the most talented musicians ever. He used to be a school teacher and wonder if that's why he writes such great lyrics. Man, what a talent!
My favorite Police “story” song is Synchronicity 2. Love the vibe and imagery in that song!
@@dmanimousprime3858 that is one of my favorites too. Figured it was just not quite as big a hit as the others I suggested. And since they are just experiencing the Police for the first time, figured I'd suggest they start with the biggest hits first.
Stewart Copeland did a lot of scores for movies and TV shows which a lot of people aren't aware of but he kept pretty busy too. He did the score for the movie Rumble Fish for example.
You have no idea how many beats and pieces of songs are sampled and used. The Police have earned their place in music history. So many great songs and made from three guys. Loved this song since the first time I heard it.
the Police were VERY influential to all musicians, Sting is an amazing vocalist and Stewart Copland is a master on the drums. they have so many huge hit songs. " I cant stand losing you" and " Walking on the moon" are 2 of my favs.

This band was HUGE in the 80s. The first music I ever bought, I saved up Christmas money and bought ten cassettes all at once. Synchronicity was one of those ten. Really good band all the way around and Sting went on and had a bunch of good solo material, too.

This police was massive in Ireland in the 80s. Every breath you take and message in a bottle was my childhood listening over and over again.
