It's Time We Talked About What Christians Are Watching

  • On the topic of shows and movies (like The Witcher and Oppenheimer), I know we went pretty hard. But tbh, it frustrates me the way so many Christians who struggle with lust, and even fall into p*rn, will casually watch stuff with explicit s*xual content. Why are we giving Satan this foothold in our lives? Lust, p*rn, and the battle of the mind is no joke! Thoughts?

    Hey Fam, let’s have an honest chat. When it comes to movies and shows, are we guarding our hearts above all else (proverbs 4:23)? It seems far too many people get lenient when it comes to what they watch. Have you/do you struggle with this? Comment below and let us know if you agree with our thoughts or you have a different perspective!

      I definitely think we need to be more on guard. God has been in a journey of intentionality to not living like the world does. And media is a huge part of what the world is submerged in, which means I need to carefully navigate it.

    I strongly recommend watching Heartland. There's 16 seasons & 249 hour-long episodes that have aired so far, so you'll be at it for a while! It's not a Christian show by any means but it's much more wholesome, great family show. Highly recommend especially if you like horses and beautiful Alberta landscapes. The writing is well thought out and generously over woven characters & storylines, there's really nothing else like it. Many of the actors are very upstanding in real life and it feeds into their acting and characters (and they're quite good actors).

    I really appreciate when movies just imply that something steamy occurred. It’s not really necessary to show the whole thing. Like you can get the message across in other ways and then just get on to the next scene.

    I actually thought the intimate scenes were really well made and served a major purpose in Oppenheimer. There is a very brief one that I thought was very effective, and seen from the POV of Oppenheimer's wife, made it feel like mockery. Haven't seen a more effective way to demonstrate the effects of cheating on a spouse.

  • @erikabutterfly
    @erikabutterfly Рік тому +2

    I think you can safely process content in books a lot easier, just because no real people (actors) are involved. If a couple in a book kisses it's different than watching people who aren't even married, devouring each other's faces on screen. I'd still steer clear of books with explicit sexual content though. Battle scenes or violence on the other hand - in my opinion - aren't so triggering, just reading them, simply because your mi do and imagination sets boundaries of how deeply you process the written information.
    I'm for mostly watching/listening to informative content, and going back to books for entertainment.

    Hi Paul and Morgan, I recently became a Christian who wants to represent Jesus and not the world. I’ve always been a believer but never actually reading the Bible. Now that I am reading the word I realize that we need to guard our hearts and eyes. What are we watching and allowing to dwell in our mind and heart? If it is taking us away from God then we must stop watching or listening, It truly affects us in some way. I stoped watching major Hollywood movies ( only family movies now ) and secular music, and it has blessed me. Our flesh is weak but Christ is our strength! He helps us!

    Man. This constantly being on guard and “watching and praying” is why I couldn’t even be with my ex. He couldn’t even sit on the couch next to me. Watching a show about flipping houses. With his mom sitting on the other side of him 😅 I didn’t realize it then but I see how insanely obsessed people can become with “being on guard.” It does the opposite of what they want. And that is keeping sex, temptation, and sin at the forefront of their minds anytime they’re with the opposite sex. It’s so unhealthy. It becomes and obsession and causes way more issues than not.

    Respectfully, please leave Oppenheimer alone. I get you don’t like a certain scene, but I know there is Christian apps that will edit that out. Do research before you see a movie. I’m sorry this one was personal because Oppenheimer’s message is so much deeper than the scene you disliked. It’s unfortunate that this was your take away from the movie…. How about a real review on the movie? And the take away about how nuclear energy is paving our world RIGHT NOW. Disappointed this was the talking point of the movie.
    Edit: I also want to say, the no no parts made me uncomfortable. Very uncomfortable I kept it moving and did what I needed to do internally, And, listened to the rest of the message of the movie.

    Thanks so much for this, one of your best videos in ages! People will tell you that this is legalistic, but you are just being wise. Just as Christians are always told to keep away from websites thwr promote p*rn, we should be equally vigilant in keeping away from media content that's p*rnagraphic in nature for the sake of keeping our minds clean. Im a single Christian, and i don't want to fill my mind with too much s*xual content or even too OTT romantic scenes (i love romance books/ films , but there's a limit of how much "romance" I'll consume at a time and how detailed) before I'm married, lest I fall into lust or get unrealistic expectations about what i want in a husband. Every Christian should know their limits and not feel they are being legalistic by keeping them! 🙌🏻❤

    Another thing thats important to me is not supporting things that are detestable to God. If there are movies or tv shows or music that is full of evil content I just dont want to support it. I don't feel right supporting something that is contributing to the accelerating downfall of this world. [Some] Christians may watch it and look away but most peope that go to see it won't. Most people like that stuff or are indifferent (at first) but either way it will give them the desire to do more and more evil things. Those that like it will see it and continue to do more bad things, and those that aren't raised with a strong moral foundation will see that, feel the pleasure it gives, and want to experience it in real life. I just can't support that in good conscious.

    I am a Christian photojournalist and screenwriter. I watch a lot of TV and movies. The problem is not the writers and producers within the secular sphere. The problem is the Christians, and here's why. We have whined and complained about what Hollywood is producing, and get on other believers about it, yet there is almost no alternative. We tell our creative kids that writing and acting is a waste of time, yet when Game of Thrones, The Witcher, and other shows like it come on we complain. Why don't we encourage our kids to make something better, or do it ourselves???

People all around the world are watching this stuff and not even trying to guard their hearts. I'm sure it's ruining many marriages and relationships. Sin seems pleasurable in the moment but only leads to destruction in the end. I did watch Oppenheimer but I wish I hadn't. Two shows that I think are permissible in regards to Sexual Content were Lost and The Blacklist. Both shows have moments were sex scenes occur, although no nudity is shown and before things get super steamy the scene ends. I generally just look away or close my eyes and wait for the scene to end if two characters are steamily making out or in bed together. Also, these shows do not over saturate their seasons with sexual content (although the Blacklist had more instances). Sometimes series over do it to the point where it is a major draw to viewers, at which point the line is crossed in my opinion.

  • @yusufalsanad
    @yusufalsanad Рік тому +2

    I'll just say this about the so-called "Witcher" show, which is a FAILED "adaptation" of The Witcher novels or book series, there's a LOT of issues with the show, and its' "content" believe it or not is not even its' biggest flaw, but it's definitely amongst them. Henry Cavill, Paul, is NOT Geralt of Rivia, the title character himself, and if you ever consider reading the book series, you'll get to know who the REAL Witcher is. His wants, hopes, dreams, strengths, flaws, etc. The TV Series is pretty much the "Yennefer (not even Yennefer from the books, in EVERY way she wasn't) show", and it's NOT "good". As for Oppenheimer, I couldn't agree more. But yeah, I'm with you and Morgan all the way. :)

    God's word is clear, there is to be no mixture. We are to be holy as God is holy. This is, I am convinced why christians as a whole do not experience the same power and fire of God in our lives because we are too willing to entertain the enticements of the world and pollute the temple of God through our eyes and ears.
    Sound of Freedom was the last movie i watched and it was powerful. That one I definitely recommend 👌

    I'm ashamed to say this but looove the movie of 50 shades of grey series I love how he changes into a good man BUT every time me and my husband watched it we felt so sinful so we havnt seen it in a long time and hopefully never will again.

    Men and especially women are beautiful enough clothed why would anyone want that kind of temptation seeing them unclothed! And when I say clothed I am NOT talking about lusting, I am just talking about noticing a pretty woman or handsome man....that's it. NO CHRISTIAN should be watching explicit content!!!

    Do you know that Mickey the sexual therapist does episodes breaking y'alls beliefs down? They might actually truly be informative and beneficial to help you understand why how you process these types of topics isn't really the healthiest. Morgan I think you would especially benefit because you have a more level head on your shoulders.
