Recover Firefox tabs after accidentally closing. How do i restore accidentally closed tabs in Firefox. Firefox restore session from sessionstore-backups.
In case if you removed all recent backup files from the sessionstore-backups folder but when you start the browser you still see the wrong tabs or no tabs at all, then you need to close the browser, then remove freshly appeared backup files in the sessionstore-backups folder, after that go to one step back to your profile folder and remove these two files: sessionstore.jsonlz4, sessionCheckpoints.json
Once done, you can start your browser. If you want to try different backup files, then you need to repeat the above process for every single try or start and closing of the browser.

IMPORTANT! If you've have removed all recent backup files from the sessionstore-backups folder, but upon starting the browser, you still see incorrect tabs or none at all, you need to close the browser. Then, remove any newly generated backup files in the sessionstore-backups folder. After that, navigate back to your profile folder (a folder with random letters and numbers) and delete this file: sessionstore.jsonlz4.
Once these steps are completed, you can copy the old backup file into the sessionstore-backups folder and start the browser. If you need to try different backup files, you will need to repeat the above process for each attempt or each time you start and close the browser.

You are a wonderful person friend. I lost all hopes of recovering my Tabs. I tried every possible thing. BUT your suggestion worked perfectly. It's simple and to the point. All tabs got restored...
#Note: I restored all the tabs from "Old Firebox Data" Session Files into the "New Firefox" after many days of updating and refreshing...Recently the "New Firefox" also got crashed and during troubleshooting, I lost the latest session with Tabs as well. Then I tried your method with "Old Firefox Data" Session Files and as a surprise, all the tabs got restored from the "Old Firefox Data." It all worked 101%
    Thanks Again, God Bless!!! :)

One issue you may want to address in another video... Evidently I lost my tabs (over 40) when Firefox did a update, even though I had automatic updates turned off. Why does Firefox not respect this setting? And even if does an update with our without permission, why does it sometimes delete all tabs? Seems like sloppy programming, and makes me very reluctant to do updates. After all, even though I used your method to get most tabs back, they are a month old (it was the only file with old tabs I could find in my profile folders). Thanks.

Firefox is simply a very very bad browser. E.g. none of this needs to be done in Opera since nothing ever gets lost. Firefox should simply copy Opera in the way that it works and videos like this won't be necessary. Opera loses NOTHING even after a crash. Firefox is manual and in most cases your tabs are lost for ever after you restart it if you forget to "restore sessions" or worse you start Firefox with a new search. Firefox ruins your day completely in that regard. No going back. End of story.
Opera is automatic and nothing is ever lost. All tabs return immediately without you having to do a thing.
*Firefox is simply a really bad browser in that regard.*

Man, I thought I found the golden key to retrieving my lost tabs - but alas everything I tried gives me the same result. I followed all your steps, and saw below about going one step back and deleting the "Sessions" files as well. I even restarted my computer. It keeps bringing me right back to the main firefox page. So very frustrating. Firefox initially gave me "out of date" when i opened it and I hit "x" by accident, I just wasn't thinking. I meant to of course hit restore previous history. It restarted firefox and everything was gone, with no restore option. I searched and tried a few things including recuva. I have 1 previous, 2 recovery diles that are no good based on the time on them. I have 3 upgrade, where one is from earlier today, one a week ago, and one almost a month ago. Any of them would be great. The last 2 have 1,500 KB each, and the one from earlier today has 18 KB. None of them worked, keeps bringing me right back to the main page, no other tabs or history. Anything more I can try before I scream?

Go to the tools menu and select settings. Make sure that option "Open previous windows and tabs" is enabled. Then go to your Firefox accounts folder and remove "sessionCheckpoints.json" file. Then copy your backup file to the sessionstore-backups folder and finally start your browser.

You went a little too fast and seemed to skip over creating a back-up of the profile files before deleting all but the one you think best. Also, my situation was more complicated, as it contained 3 different profile folders each with multiple files. Also, all were dated today (when an update erased all my tabs) except for one dated a month ago (but which had most of my tabs). So I put that file and only that file in each of the three folders (not knowing which Firefox would use), and volia' --it worked. Tabs back, at least those from a month ago. Why it did not have any backups for days between those is baffling. Anyway, thanks!

Ok, so I saved a copy of sessionstorebackup to my desktop. I can see the "previous" file from 3:23am this morning - which is the one i want to use to restore my Firefox tabs. But after that , I just don't understand this video. I need a clearer, slow, step by step walk through of how I re-open firefox using that file from 3:23am. At 2:39 in this video how did you run fFrefox to use that particular file? Please explain clearly and slowly.

    • @ElectronicsComputers
      @ElectronicsComputers  2 місяці тому +1

Simply remove all recent backup files from the sessionstore-backups folder.

@@ElectronicsComputers Thank you very much for replying. Good news: IT WORKED! This is perhaps the only video on the internet that explains how to do this, so I'm very grateful.
It's a miracle that I did it because where you say (in your comments to me) "navigate back to your profile folder (a folder with random letters and numbers) and delete this file: sessionstore.jsonlz4", I couldn't see that file. But it seems that deleting all the recovery files in my current sessionstore and then pasting in my old file did the trick.
Because I'm a "Dummy", there was another thing that I didn't understand at first. At 1:36 I thought you were immediately using the sessionstore BACKUP folder, but you weren't; you were in the original/current sessionstore. If I need to use your video again, hopefully I will realise that next time!
I wonder if it also might be worth mentioning at 0:18 - that we need to turn on the feature of re-opening old tabs - by going to Settings\General\Startup and ticking the box. I was actually clicking HISTORY and RESTORE PREVIOUS SESSION every time I opened Firefox because I didn't realise (until now) that I could turn it on as an automatic feature!
Anyway, thanks again for your video & your reply.

Actually your trick doesn't work as it is exposed here. So I'm leaving my try for other people. I'm using firefox version 94. I had to go one step back in the folder, and destroy the "sessionCheckpoint.json" file. Then returning in the session backups folder, I've had to add a file named "recovery.baklz4" (copy paste from a precedent session), and to copy paste a precedent file "upgrade.jsonlz4-year..." and to rename this last file into "recovery.jsonlz4".
I don't know how and why that works this way for me, but that's magical!

This isn't working for me. Keep getting the previous unwanted new tab with every file in sessionstore-backups, 3 upgrades, 2 recovery & 1 previous& not one worked.. This all started after firefox crashed & then asked me to sign in. They sent a code to my email to sign in with. When I signed in with the code it automatically opened a new window without my tabs in grrrr :| Can I go back to previous session in the BIOS during a reboot, anyone know?

Misfortune has struk me again :( last month I used this to recover my tabs after a normal crash. But today my firefox crashed due to the new 127.0.1 update and I couldnt open firefox. I had no choice but to reinstall firefox. I looked at sessionrestore after I reinstalled but the files in there are basically empty. I was then going to restore the really old files from my older session but I accidentally did the process one time with firefox opened - now the old sessions wont restore.
Is there any way for me to get my tabs back after un/reinstall? And is there anyway to get my REALLY old sessions to work again after having accidentally pasted them with firefox open?
Also, is there any way to save tabs in case this happens again?
Its not fair I lose my work TWICE because firefox is garbage!
    Please and thank you

Close your browser via task manager, then remove those files. Also, go to the previous folder (one step back) and remove one backup file. Its name will be pretty much obvious. Then start your browser.

It just happened to me again! My advice is DON'T use firefox, ever!
*Just use ANY other browsers and you won't lose tabs!!! IT'S THAT SIMPLE!!!*
With firefox after a reboot you will ALWAYS lose ALL your tabs if you don't manually use the restore button.

Thanks alot, FOR ANYONE WHO HAS THE PROBLEM THAT FIREFOX OVERWRITES YOUR OLDER FILE AFTER PASTING, you really have to close Firefox via Taskmanager, even the 32 bit sessions in the bottom part of the list of current running programs, thank you again, I knew this trick but didn't keep everything in mind😅

If you have removed all recent backup files from the sessionstore-backups folder, but upon starting the browser, you still see incorrect tabs or none at all, you need to close the browser. Next, remove any newly generated backup files in the sessionstore-backups folder. After that, navigate back to your profile folder and delete these two files: sessionstore.jsonlz4 and sessionCheckpoints.json.
Once these steps are completed, you can copy the backup file into the sessionstore-backups folder (one step back from the sessionstore-backups folder) and start the browser. If you wish to try different backup files, you will need to repeat the above process for each attempt or each time you start and close the browser.

I installed firefox recently and I tried with 6 jsonlz4 files that I recovered from another hard drive that I had formatted, but it didn't work. The files are from 2 months ago. 2 have 1 date and the other 4 another. Is it still possible to recover those sessions? I also wonder the same about bookmarks.

    • @ElectronicsComputers
      @ElectronicsComputers  3 роки тому

Close Firefox, remove all files from the sessionstore-backups folder and then copy your files from another drive. Go back to the main folder of your account (one step back) and remove within that folder delete the following files: sessionCheckpoints.json; sessionstore.js + variations like sessionstore-1.js, sessionstore.bak, etc. Finally, Start Firefox.

This important video must have more than 200 comments in 3 years. It is perhaps the voice volume is hard to understand. The close captioning doesn't match the voice. And the explanation is fast and visibly hard to see. Thanks anyway

i dont get it im doing something wrong and i dont know what it is,i have the information but firefox just dont use it,it keeps opening the last open tabs, even when i erased all the files and paste the old upgrade one from like a week ago,why does it keep opening last sesiosn what i am doing wrong?

    • @ElectronicsComputers

Go back from sessionstore-backups folder you'll see a bunch of folders and files there. And you have to delete backup file which looks similar to what you've seen essionstore-backups folder. That file keeps your recent session.
