  • The plan for the day is to head out and cut firewood, but before we can do that, we have a couple of small jobs that need to be done first. First Alan, is going to change the hook on his logging chain to a different styled one. Then, while the skid steer is warming up, Alan changes the gasket on the moisture trap in the milk house. Finally, it's time to head out to the woods to drag out a log and split it. Joshua helps out with loading the wood and they head back to the farm.

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.

I was watching you sharpen your chainsaw chain, and it reminded me of me when my kids were young, like yours are now, and I was doing the same same activity. I got chores done and cleaned the barn. Then, I would eat breakfast and get ready to head out to the woods. Good memories. Thanks for the reminder.

No shortage of things to attend to on a farm!!! That looked like good conditions to get wood other than the cold weather. At least you didn't have to wallow around in the mud.

I looked into carbide chain for some of the tree service sized wood I get. I only priced the Stihl carbide chain, and figured it's cheaper, and easier, to just keep using conventional semi-chisel instead of full chisel that I normally use. I keep a couple semi-chisel on hand now and they work OK on durty frozen wood.
It's been almost a year since we got to meet. Man your channel is coming along!👍

We had a flood in 2016. It washed down a lot of nice oak, hickory, walnut and ash trees, also some junk wood too. You couldn't even cut half a tree without sharpening a chain from the sand and whatever else. It was a pain but got it done. Took about a year.

As far as saw chains go for dirty wood file the chain @ 25 degrees it will stay sharper longer and try cutting from bottom to top it pushes the dirt away from the tooth instead of pulling it in

Sand is very hard on equipment, and the equipment to recycle the sand,is much to expensive for a dairy our size.

About how many bucket loads do you burn in a week during the colder days do you think? It was nice and cold by us and I split a bunch of elm that we still have standing dead in the woods. Well I don't know if I actually split it or splintered it but it works good in the furnace anyway.
