  • In this episode of BNH (Basic Nigerian History), Dr Catel discusses the first human habitation in the areas that became Nigeria before anything was written down. He also investigates agricultural techniques and craftsmanship that occurred as well as the various different societies that developed.
BNH is going to be like a crash course on Nigerian history, but along the way will also touch on other parts of West African history. This episode focuses on pre-history content, iron-working, leatherworking etc.

Update: The Episodes will be released Monthly NOT WEEKLY, as it takes a lot of time and effort to create each episode and we at present do not have the funds or manpower to churn them out that quickly

As a blank woman living in America... I know NOTHING about my people! That’s embarrassing!!! Thank you for doing this because there are so many people in my shoes in America that truly just want to find out who we are! Even so we may never truly know, people like you have helped us see how amazing we are! Without people like you... we’d be completely completely lost! Thank you, from your sister in America!

Thank you so much for creating these videos! As someone based in the US, our school systems rarely touch on prehistory in Africa much less in specific states and regions. Learning so much info about Nigeria is so interesting and you put things in such an easy to follow format! Thanks for all you do. Your hard work is not unnoticed!

Nice video.pls try and update also.the earliest human habitation in Nigeria is at ugwuele uturu in south east Nigeria. Here at ugwuele cave archeloean handex were discovered in large numbers. Though it remained unpolished but uranium studies conducted showed a radiocarbon dating of 250,000 years.

I love your episode and I really appreciate the PROPER pronunciation of certain groups, languages, places, etc... For example, I am an American and I find it frustrating when an American tries to do a "History of Nigeria" video and says "ig - boh" when referring to Igbo (which is pronounced more like "ee-boh". I like to hear about the History of Nigeria from a Nigerian.

I think, the decentralized State were just different Kind of People who used different Langueges, had different cultures and didn't want to be ruled by anyone. And according to a different sourced traced to the British Library, the Ibibio people had already an organised system of Governance and everyone had a say in the society. They are still here today.
