    I really admire your persistence and skill. Excellent video. I can’t understand why they fit these sights so tight.

    I cannot thank you enough for sharing, I’ve been on a quest to change my Beretta PX4 Storm full size sights. I tried a brass punch with out any success. Fortunately I saw your video and it helped me decide to get a MGW range master tool instead of some other universal options. I got it out fine, but I had to use the tool and punch too and soaking the sights with Ballistol. The Beretta sights are certainly in tight but your combination of tool and guidance made this much easier for my first time working with replacing sights and a well built tool for the future.

      my experience is that beretta px4 sights are a very tight fit. sounds like your experience was the same.

    Just did two PX4 Storm sub-compacts. The fronts came off without too much trouble, to the right, looking from the front. I saw later that one of the aftermarket sight manufacturers says extract to the left, looking at them, for both front and rear sights. Oh well. The rears were really hard to get out. I ended up using your method. Put a brass drift against the sight presser once it was cranked tight. Had to do it twice, but then they broke free. Replaced the sights with tritium night sights. I couldn't imagine doing them without the fixture. Of note, the compact front sights are wider than the full and the sub-compact.

    The best sight pusher is a mill vice in a mill with a machined brass pusher bar in a collet, shim the slide according for your slide, and one the X axis push away, no impact.
    I pin gauged three different slides and found the dovetail was straight cut, I don't know how this got started but most dovetails are endmill cut then finish cut with your dovetail cutter, to taper cut in such a small pass would require huge precision in the sub min. of a degree and make little sense from a production standpoint.

      thanks for the post, all good information for people trying to do this. do you suppose that the rear sight blades have a taper to their dovetail? the reason i ask is that in my case the sight would hand start from one side and not the other. this would indicate that one side differs from the other.

      @@whooper3336 Mic it and see, on the oem S&W shield they have a small nub on the face of the taper. Bottom line, if the factory or sight manufacturer tells you to install a given way it would be foolish to do the opposite.

    I need to change the sights on a full size 9mm and .40. My expensive Wheeler sight pusher was no good for this. I am going to carefully work on the old sights with a Dremel first this time.

      the sights on the px4 were very tight. the sight pro was up to the task. if i recall i believe i soaked the rear of the slide in penetrating oil over night and to get initial movement on the sight i shocked the tool with the sight under screw pressure with a dead blow hammer to start the sight movement. there was a pop and the sight would then move. i just recently needed to bump the rear sight over on a cz 9mm some oil and the sight pro did the trick. good luck

      @@whooper3336 Thanks, i will try oil first, I do not want to risk damaging the frame. The front sight on the one was no problem, unlike the rear sights. These were both police trades, with dead night sights..

    Could it be easier to replace the rear sight with and adjustable one which is available in the market?

    • @whooper3336
      @whooper3336  2 роки тому

      Yes I looked at the lpa, but this is a carry gun so I wanted to keep the sights as compact as possible yet provide a accurate aim point in relation to point of impact. I think the lpa or any adjustable sight might be better suited for a target pistol application.

    How much higher did you get your px4 sub compact to shoot after you installed that sight?

    • @whooper3336
      @whooper3336  7 років тому +2

      depends on distance to target and the gun, there is a formula, or some sight manufactures have a calculator that you plug your numbers into. i believe dawson precision has a calculator you can use on their website.

      i called beretta, they sent me to midwest gun works. you can google it , they have a website. at the time they had a kit of 4 different height rear sights for apx $30 but it was out of stock. they also had the individual sights that were apx $15 ea in stk. currently they show out of stock, if you call them and they have more post it here and let me know i would like a few extra for future projects.

    Hey whooper333, although video quality isn't the best, you covered all the techniques in trying to remove that pesky rear sight. Basically there isn't a sight pusher on the market that can remove the PX4 sight, it will require brute force of a hammer to remove. Thanks

    • @whooper3336
      @whooper3336  7 років тому

      yes a 3 pound hammer, or if you have a sight-pro mgw sight pusher tool it will work as well with a hammer to get the sight started.

    • @Chevy2U

      Got my Sight Pro today and gave it a try by itself - no luck. I even tried a hammer and punch for 30 minutes of pounding - no luck. Finally I used a hacksaw and cut the sight 1mm above the frame, only then could I remove it using a hammer. No damage or marks to the slide, the front sight isn't easy either. I'm running TruGlo night sights now.

      Chevy2U I got mine loose with a cheap VISM sight pusher but it took a lot of brute force and a section of brass bar stock to beat it with. Crazy tight!

      I removed the rear sight on my Bulldog by carefully cutting it in half with a rotary tool and disc cutting wheel. Once cut, the sight pushes out with minimum effort. This method was advised to me from a retired gunsmith. I then "smithed" an optic plate intended for the full size and compact to fit a red dot optic. I am now considering an adjustable rear sight option.
