  • A great sail across Whitsunday Passage to Airlie Beach anchored the boat off VMR at Cannonvale. I had a shower and shave on board then paddled ashore for a night on the town.

    Very nice Simon, getting better all the time. Finding that, thanks to your coverage, cannot wait to get over there and sail around a bit. Looks great.

    Simon,
    AGAIN...your trip brought back great memories of my trip into ABeach.
    The humpback whales came well into the bay and almost to the mooring area outside of the Whitsunday Sailing Club.
    So...while it looks like you're done for this season...something to watch out for for the NEXT season.
    Tremendously enjoy your videos.
    Be sure to catch the WEEKLY dinner special at the WSC...great deal for about $10.
    They'd just put in a NEW kitchen when I was there.
    And...the farmers market...can't remember if it was Sat or Sunday's...had great veggies.
    Smooth flying back to Bris to get the trailer.
    Drive safely back to ABeach and then home.
    Time to plan your NEXT YEAR's trip.
    Perhaps...head further NORTH. Start at ABeach and End at Lizard?
    That would be an awesome trip and great videos.
    My 2 unsolicited cents.
    Romeo

    PS to the lifeline Question , I sailed around southernTasmania in an M26 folk boat and rarely wore a safety harness only at night or in extreme conditions ! And a PDF when it thought it was needed ! But each to their own ! It's your choice I believe ! Cheers

    Pulling the roller furling line seems much easier :)

      Sailing single handed with a furling drum over run is a complete nightmare. Small furling sails cant be partially furled in without an aluminum extrusion on the forestay or the top half of the sail will unfurl under load which is also bad.

    A clear case for fitting a roller reeling gear!!!!

    Nice. For now, I have a hank on jib and no reef points (on my main, storm or genoa). Never had a roller furling system and from what I read lotsa weight (up high too), more crud to break, bad general purpose sail but, brother, looks easy to use. Soon I'm buying a 35-ish foot ocean going vessel. PLEASE comment about this: Less windage/weight and reliability of hank compared to roller furling. Many thanks.

      Slab reefing is the easiest cheapest and safest.

    I missed most interesting - how did you set the foot of foresail after reefing.

    Hi Great videos. Always wear a life jacket or harness if alone as if you fell off the boat it would continue sailing away and you would be in serious trouble.

    have an 18 ft capri. want to use hank on jib. can i reef it? like you did w/ much larger boat? i could not see specifically what you did, but i liked the result!

    Great video, but I really wanted to see what you did when you were reefing the jib. Did you tie a line across the bottom of the sail then reef to that?

  • @jasonfrodoman1316
    @jasonfrodoman1316 3 роки тому

    So I was looking at this again. Do you have some kind of reefing hook at the bow when you lower the sail ? And are you using 2 sets of jib sheets ? I couldn't see in the video. Thanks Sir.

    • @simoncarteroz
      @simoncarteroz  3 роки тому

      Jason I have a large spring hook on the front work with one hand. I rig a spare jib sheet just before I reef and tie it on before I haul the jib back up. safe sailing regards Simon

    Hi Simon, don't You ever think of using a lifeline up on the foredeck?

    • @simoncarteroz

      +John Johansen
      John, I have a safety harness and I am open to ridicule for not using it, not wearing a life jacket sailing alone, if I fall off I will perish quick if I am lucky. I believe everything I do on the boat has measured risks & rewards. I am not averse to wearing a harness and life jacket when things get rough and unpredictable, when the boat might have to look after me. Simon

    You seem to do it the hard way (. I not talking roller reefing ) There is an easier quicker way to reef a head sail.
