A lot of older African Americans use to call nuts "guber/goober" from the bakongo or kimbundu word for "n'guba" I think that white Americans had a nut company called goober too. Most didn't know why they called it that. Same with the word "gumbo: in Louisiana coming from the word "ki ngombo"
