  • This video dempnstrates how to knit an afterthought heel in socks. The waste yarn technique can easily be used in any other place where you need to insert a heel, a thumb (for mittens) or for inserting a pocket in a sweater.

I have seen several of these videos so far and yours is the easiest to remember. I have my own ideas about closing the gap but thank you.

You mentioned 'ladders'....I have found that using 5 dpns instead of 4 will distribute the tension better without any laddering.

What is your favorite heel to do? I have yet to do my first pair of socks. I am studying sock videos. I want to do toe-up socks with DPN's that is decided but do not know what heel I want to do, I do have the fish lip heel pattern.

Hi Denise, I love the adjusted afterthought heel for deeper heel. I also love a gusset heel flap heel.

I tend to knit tightly at times. Makes it difficult while recording a video. Have eased up since then.
