I've been knitting for years and I remember afterthought heels were always so hard and this video has totally changed the game!! Thank you!!

I have watched so many tutorials on how to do this and have been reluctant because I don't want to mess up my work. Your technique by far makes the most sense because you don't have to pick up all those little stitches hoping you don't miss one. I have 42 stitches at 11 stitches per inch ... teeny tiny ones. Thank you so much for this.

There are so many tutorials on afterthought heels and I have such a struggle with inserting my needles. I also knit with one long needle. This is by far the easiest and most guaranteed way to not cut the wrong thread or drop stitches. Brilliant! Thanks so much for this clever technique.

This looks MUCH EASIER than picking up stitches! Thank you from a beginning sock knitter!!

Brilliant! Thanks - I stopped doing afterthought heels because I hated picking up the stitches - now with a lifeline, no problem!

This is so AWESOME! I never would have thought to use a life line here, but it makes sense. I like to knit Latvian mittens and you put the thumb stitches on hold, then go back to knit them and I always have to be so careful trying to get the stitches back on the needles. Thank you so much for putting this tutorial out there. I can't wait to try this on my next pair of mittens!

Oh my Goodness!!! This is AwEsOmE!!! Thank-you for sharing! I usually do toe up socks with a fleegle heel but bought a pattern that I just loved and it was cuff down. I never did a heel flap & gusset before but gave it a try ... ripped it out twice :( They have been in 'time-out' for about a year. Now I know just what to do :) They will be out of 'time out' & on my feet in no time! Great tutorial & great method!

As long as I’ve been Knitting, and as much as I use sock yarn remnants for stitch holders, stitch markers, and lifelines, you’d think that to do this would’ve crossed my mind! 😄Thank you for this tutorial, which I’ve added to my Tutorials folder!😉

What if when you go to knit the burgendy yarn, you did it on a double pointed needle so you don't have to move all the stitch over to knit the white over it?

I use dental floss and thread it through the hole in the needle to thread it through, then do the waste yarn, then another lifeline through the hole in the needle. I’m wondering what I could use besides dental floss that would fit through that hole.

If you're making a toe-up sock, where on your foot would this waste yarn be? So if I measured the length of my foot from the toe, what point on my foot would the waste yarn be? Back if the heel? I'm very confused

  • @implusiveknitter

I am finding this hard to follow as a newbie to the technique. Can you include which needle to place the first lifeline with? because you knitted the other side after placing the 1st lifeline I am assuming it's the back/bottom needle (and because of the heel duh), but because I had left off at the start of a round I accidentally placed the top needle on the lifeline first :)

Question? How does you know where to start the heel so you start this afterthought your doing?

    • @dreareneeknits

The pattern you are following should tell you were to place the heel.

  • @blfspinner

How many inches do you knit until you start your afterthought heel?

You return to the afterthought heel after finishing the rest of the sock/slipper :)

    • @blfspinner

I suppose I asked that completely wrong. How many inches do you knit until you put in your lifeline and knit the afterthought heel knit line
