Been following Philip for so long, an artist in every sense. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and giving so much to the community for so long. Much love.
I grew up in a time where Videos have to be very stylistic and have cool party music, but after I discovered Philip Bloom, I see that films are meant to capture moments, and seeing the shots paired with amazing pieces is just so humanizing, if thats the way to describe it.
Kobeboy15 yeah I see a lot of filming in a style which I call "shock and awe", fast paced music with the bass cranked up as high as possible cutting so rapidly between shots to hide flaws, I suppose there's nothing inherently wrong with this and fast paced cutting can be used to good effect but for the most part I much prefer philip blooms style of displaying quality shots for long enough to take every little detail in. I find it really puts me in a pensive state
matty9460 I as a film maker myself, I've always forced myself to edit like that and create something that can make someone go wow, but Philip's style has a more lasting effect even after the video has ended and more satisfying result, where as the cut and awe really on last as long as the video, well thats what I think. I agree with you that not all are bad, but Im saying Philip opened my eyes to a new way of telling a story.
Kobeboy15 I think I get what you mean. It's like hearing a singer that is so good you don't want to cheer in the middle of a performance just so you don't miss a note.
I agree. I always wanted to be a filmmaker but I think Phillip Bloom is responsible for strengthening my desire to pursue filmmaking during this digital era. I've learned a lot watching his videos.
I wish every review had this much footage. You're depth of testing was really nice. Testing ISO turns into a story. Kind of neat the way you do it. It's like you're a pro or something...?
You prolly dont give a shit but does any of you know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb lost my password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
@Gage Shiloh Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
You Sir are a great story teller whether it's a short film or gear review as in this case, I am always thrilled to watch any of your videos. Keep them coming and I will keep watching for as long as I live. Breathtaking to say the least!!!!
How wonderful to be able to share good cameras with family like that. They clearly know what they are doing. Non-family assistants can be brilliant, but there is something special about working with family when they are good at the job.
Welcome back, Philip. V much enjoy this review, as others. So glad you took the time to share your thoughts and talent in this video. You've taught me so much about shooting DSLR video over the years. It's v much appreciated. Cheers -C.M.
It has taken me nearly two years since purchasing the first generation URSA Mini 4K EF to be able to outfit it with a shoulder mount kit, a viewfinder, a follow focus, a matte box, a couple of 4x4 filters and three decent lenses. I shot for five years on a Canon 7D. The difference in image quality, even in 1080p is remarkable. I would love to try other cameras such as the C200 but budgets being what they are...
That's why we love you Philip Bloom your camera review is much more believable than others I'm not saying that they are terrible reviewer but yours is the best.
as an indie filmaker I find this camera very exciting. I rarely can afford to hire a dedicated "experienced" focus puller for the lower budget stuff, so that dual pixel af is amazing, however I also want RAW for maximum grading on films (the RAW file size isn't usually an issue on set, I just use a laptop in a pelican case with a card reader and ssd drive, that way I can shoot RAW for a full day on two cfast cards). Up until recently nothing offered dual pixel af with raw at under $10,000, that being said if you don't need/want the dual pixel af, than for the money there may be better options
Very nice review, finally starting to remind me of your old reviews, which I love! Keep up your good work, even if you don't have the time, or money to do reviews like you used to do! I still enjoy every of your videos, because I love your filming style. I even visited your little talk at Photokina last year. Hope to see more Videos soon, regards from Germany!
Thanks for the review, going to BUY either this the C200 or a 1DXII in the next few days to be my new A-cam [pushing the 5DIII to b-cam]. Without thinking too hard would you rather have the 1dxii or the C200 if there was no fs7 or rx100iv in your bag?
Great review even if I will never be able to justify buying (and camera renting is way too expensive in OZ for amateurs). Love your choice of background music too; it's so nice that you actually note the titles/source for your chosen music at the end; I wish many others would do the same.
Love your reviews man, so detailed and with such beautiful shots. I now know to stick with the Panasonic EVA1 or something similar. Thank you Mr Bloom, your hard work is appreciated by us all
You mentioned that the you had to be careful of clipping in the highlights when shooting in MP4 mode, is it the same case on the end of the spectrum with the shadows? How well do you think the latitude kept up while shooting in 8-bit?
It's an interesting system, by being the '200' it feels kinda like a half-step upgrade as they do with iphones (6 then 6S etc) but it's quite clear this is a full blown upgrade.
Great Review!!! Helped me choose my camera for the next shoot. Loved the portion where you choose which camera would give you the best footage... Hope Sarah's not seen this video!!!
Thank you for putting time and effort in this great review video. Helps me a lot in chosing the right camera’s for production and getting ready for a shoot. Keep up the Good work👍🏻
Canon C200 vs Canon 1DX Mark II? Most things I shoot are very "run and gun". Which camera would you recommend? I'm currently shooting on a Canon 5D Mark IV. Thanks Phil - great review!
Does C200 also have auto ISO?! I'm just trying to see whether in a quick run and gun documentary situation this camera can use AF and Auto Exposure to shoot something quick like a DSLR in Auto mode but with C-Log on either RAW or its 150mbs modes. Thanks for the video!! :) (PS. I'm enjoying your cinematic class on MZED! Great job there too!!)
How do you think the image stacks up in Raw when compared to the the C70 and R5? I hear that the C200 has a different colour Science which edges more towards green?
Love it!! I don't really care about your reviews I just enjoy your videos so insanely much!! Thx! And by the way, I totally agree that product reviews should be later on after some weeks... PB - good job!!
thanks Phillip Bloom! time for the Eva 1 and then we can finally make our decision. do you know why there aren't a lot of c200 reviews? I thought it had something to do with an embargo like the gh5 but cinema 5D has a review
can you tell me if the C200 can record scratch audio WITHOUT the XLR mic? This is for if I put the C200 on a gimbal and I don't have any space for the XLR mic. Then I can sync the audio from the C200 to a digital recorder in post.
422 in 8bit 4k is a yes. 1080p 422 10 bit. alternatively you can shoot raw and convert to proress 444 in post, but they may not be possible for everyone
Thanks a mill for doing this review Phil. I was really looking forward to it. Footage looks amazing, but I'm still on the fence until they introduce 10 bit and RAW output at 4k 60p (possibly in a future firmware update?). Much appreciated, Tim
Hey Philip please don't ignore this comment! I've watched your videos and your blog too couldn't find something about kinefinity Terra series? it would be nice to give us some advice -Thanks
Great video Phil, thanks a lot! I am in the process of buying a C200 myself and have a really stupid and noob question but.. i will ask anyway simply because I dont know about it or how this camera works. When shooting RAW, are any video profiles or LOG modes selectable or can/need to be applied (like when shooting MP4), or because its RAW, basically is just RAW straight out of the sensor with no procession and end of story? Thanks again :)
First of all: Nice Review!...as always. And pretty nice shots. I just noticed that the C200 is probably going the typical Canon way of Product lines. I think mid 2018 the C300 MK III will come out with the same features plus anything doing better and giving the XAVC-L or whatever in 10 Bit. I really like the Colours, the files from the Canons and the workflow behind the camera better. But you can get an FS5 plus an external Recorder for less money. Sure it's not the same. In some ways it will be better. And in some not. But i think Canon is doing its usual way of holding back things. Its giving practically unusable options of better Codec/DR and saying "Here it is. There you have it. But you dind'nt pay enough." Lets be honest: Who is able to afford shooting constantly in Raw and gonna buy a C200? As it often goes with Canon: After the announcement everyone is ecxited and half a year later you see that canon pulled of their usual move. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks Philip for the great videos. I need your advice. I like ursa mini pro 4.6k very much but am torn between UMP, c200 and fs7 1. UMP looks great for price, features, codecs, video quality, dual cfast to dual ssd recording, etc but it's not very good in low light and autofocusing but then narrative films need manual focus and lightings but for event and run and gun work c200/fs7 1 seems great, but no prores 10 bit 422 internally and no 2 cfast for backup in c200 which doesn't justify it over UMP or fs7 1. I still think UMP might be good for both events and narrative films for its price/features etc. What do you think please? Thanks & Regards.
Solid review - classy delivery. I was just thinking how nice that font is - am I focussing on the wrong part of the film? :) I was going to ask what is it, and then I thought there must be a font matching web service and there is (font squirrel) - it thinks it is Futura *something* - in Adobe Typekit, the closest to me seems to be Futura PT Book - is that a good guess?
hmm i still fell like the ursa mini 4.6k still beats it imo with extras like sdi out and timecode in, dual cfast and sd slots, cinema dng (widely supported) or apple prores at way better data rates. canon has the low light advantage, canons color science and that autofocus touchy thing...hmmm tough one
it looks like the same noise I get in s-log on my a7sii, he mentions using the rx100 later in the video, so my gues is he was filming slog-2 on the rx100 inside
I get the same feeling after watching a Philip Bloom camera review as I do after a short film. It feels so nice to watch these and I wish they were more profitable so that this could be the main channel I come to for gear reviews
may depend what you're shooting in, for example in standard picture profiles my a7sii is very clean, but in flatter s-log profiles it can look more noisy. my guess (based of off nothing) would be that in c-log it will be cleaner than the 1dc, but when shooting raw with c-log2 it may be nosier, however because it's raw you can clean up the noise more in post with neat video
Amazing review as always, Philip! Leaning more & more towards buying this camera, and this has been a huge help! Would you happen to know if it does 4K 60p in the MP4 mode? I know it does it with the Cinema Light raw, but I haven't been able to confirm if it does 4K 60p in MP4 mode. Thanks again for all your great work!
Awesome! Thank you so much for answering, must've missed it in the official Canon announcement, swear I still haven't seen that info anywhere haha. And this is true 4K 60p, with sound and all? Not just a "fast/slow" mode like the "variable frame rate" mode in the GH5...? Also, the captions do say MP4 but there was no "4K 60p MP4" caption. Either way, thanks for the response!
First of all, thanks for the review. Is it just me or does the Film Convert grading make the colors look unrealistic? I understand that the colors can be anything you want them to be and Film Convert can be great for achieving a certain "look". It seems like something more realistic would be helpful when reviewing the camera.
Trap Music London thanks. Shooting stuff like I was in the video there is zero reason to use primes. It’s b-roll so zooms. I use primes all the time for low light and controlled shots especially people talking.
Ok thanks for explaining - makes sense if you treat the C200 as B-roll cam. I would use it as a A cam though and doing some research if prime lenses work well on the C200. The big question being if prime lenses support AF or only MF. I am aware that all cinematographers use manual focus anyway, but then again I would very much like to have the option to use AF, too and only switch to MF of needed.
I use a Canon C100 M2 and I have high hopes for the C200, but I'm not sure yet - jury is out. I don't quite get it - the graded footage in this review still looks flat and dead in my book.
Blue Key Media If they're in a public place they have no expectations of privacy so they can be photographed legally. If you are going to use the footage for commercial gain you will need a release, for non-commercial you won't.
If a person buy a c200 because of its autofocus capabilities would a cinema lens then make any kind of sense, or are cinema lenses only for manual focus?
Been following Philip for so long, an artist in every sense. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and giving so much to the community for so long. Much love.
The voice, the filming, the music.....harmonious perfection. Very enjoyable review.
I grew up in a time where Videos have to be very stylistic and have cool party music, but after I discovered Philip Bloom, I see that films are meant to capture moments, and seeing the shots paired with amazing pieces is just so humanizing, if thats the way to describe it.

Philip's reviews (and his videos in general) always make you want to watch them forever... 17 minutes felt like 2 minutes. Lovely.

@Gage Shiloh Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out now.

@Gage Shiloh it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much you really help me out!
@Nolan Conner happy to help xD
You Sir are a great story teller whether it's a short film or gear review as in this case, I am always thrilled to watch any of your videos. Keep them coming and I will keep watching for as long as I live. Breathtaking to say the least!!!!
If I'm ever in need of a new piece of gear you are my first stop when I begin doing research. Thanks for being you Philip! You're awesome!
One of the nicest reviews I've watched - and that includes watching people from Canon with this camera.
You convinced me to get one.
How wonderful to be able to share good cameras with family like that. They clearly know what they are doing. Non-family assistants can be brilliant, but there is something special about working with family when they are good at the job.
When i see the word "review" and the name "Philip Bloom" in the same video, i just clicked.
Me too! haha
you are a simple man like me
Welcome back, Philip. V much enjoy this review, as others. So glad you took the time to share your thoughts and talent in this video. You've taught me so much about shooting DSLR video over the years. It's v much appreciated. Cheers -C.M.

Why am I so excited for a review of a camera that I clearly can't afford (and probably don't need anyways)...
Relatable.
Like the rest of us, you're probably more excited to see content from Phillip than the actual information in the video.
Kane. Also already old news.,
You should get excited because in 3 yrs, you probably can get it for 1/3- 1/2 the listed price and you might be able to afford it.
Because you're a camera nerd. ;D
That's a beautiful image. Great range and wonderful skin. Thank you Philip. Looking forward to the EVA1 review soon. Thanks for what you do.
Philip, i admire your work, i love the way you capture people and often overlooked details. Thank you for this great Review.
I do like watching these with a beer! Thanks for taking the time!
That's why we love you Philip Bloom your camera review is much more believable than others I'm not saying that they are terrible reviewer but yours is the best.
I love your genuine care for all things in life. Thank you for your Art.
I dunno why I should watch any other review channel. Always come back to PB for honest thorough reviews.
Does this camera still have autofocus in 60p?
Nice job on the review. Was the lowlight test at the end shot in clog ungraded?
Zed ProMedia yes it is. there's a video on vimeo of the same footage he shot in log then graded
James Jackson I assumed it was. Looked really faded but the shadows look impressive. Can’t wait till my pre order comes in.

Mr. Bloom, you are a sight for sore eyes! Thank you for what you do~
Now directly supported in Final Cut Pro 10.4!
Love the coloring and skin tones.
Very nice review, finally starting to remind me of your old reviews, which I love! Keep up your good work, even if you don't have the time, or money to do reviews like you used to do! I still enjoy every of your videos, because I love your filming style. I even visited your little talk at Photokina last year.
Hope to see more Videos soon,
regards from Germany!
C200 paired with a black magic video assist for some juicy prores action would be a killer setup!
Please review the Panasonic EVA1 I might sell my FS5 and get that if it's all it hopes to be.
Yes I am also waiting for that
Lovely footage. To my eye the colors look a little muted. Faces, the green foliage, the sky. Nice cam.
Does anyone know when this camera actually goes on sale?? Everywhere is just saying pre order and I am so impatient to get my hands on it 😂
B&H expected availability beginning August 2017
www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1340801-REG/canon_2244c002_eos_c200_24_105_kit.html
Still pre order
nice review phillip, some good candid shots of Richmond, just down the road from where im from
That RX100 footage looks fantastic.
Great job Philip - as always!
Never disappointed, awesome video as usual Phillip
So glad you did a review for the C200! I'm really on the fence about buying this.
The skin tone from the C200 though, it's really really nice!
Thank you Mr Bloom, your hard work is appreciated by us all
Cak until i get it in my hands I won't be able to make the final call, but so far from what I see it seems much more applicable for my needs
Wow! The colors look so good.
The RAW is sooooo much better! The color needs some more dynamic quality. Is 14 bit just not a possibility with Canon lower end cinema cameras?
Thanks Philip! Appreciate your time and insight.
Your background music choice is top drawer.
Love this! Thank you for years of amazing content!
How do you think the image stacks up in Raw when compared to the the C70 and R5? I hear that the C200 has a different colour Science which edges more towards green?
yes thats exactly what i was thinking
Love it!! I don't really care about your reviews I just enjoy your videos so insanely much!! Thx! And by the way, I totally agree that product reviews should be later on after some weeks... PB - good job!!
I'm shooting a mini doc pretty soon and a short film right after that. I'm torn between hiring a C200 or EVA1. Any thoughts? Maybe I'll try both
What camera and lens did your film this with? That image in your room looks amazing
thanks Phillip Bloom! time for the Eva 1 and then we can finally make our decision.
do you know why there aren't a lot of c200 reviews? I thought it had something to do with an embargo like the gh5 but cinema 5D has a review
thank you so much for your efforts Philip.
is the viewfinder of the canon c200 good?
can you tell me if the C200 can record scratch audio WITHOUT the XLR mic? This is for if I put the C200 on a gimbal and I don't have any space for the XLR mic. Then I can sync the audio from the C200 to a digital recorder in post.
Looks like I will be saving up for this camera next year. Where do you get your music? And what were the song titles?
Great review, thank you Philip! Beautiful footage and music. Do you know if this camera can do 422 out?
thanks. yes it can
Erik Hill it does 10 bit 422 out in 1080
422 in 8bit 4k is a yes. 1080p 422 10 bit. alternatively you can shoot raw and convert to proress 444 in post, but they may not be possible for everyone

Hey Philip please don't ignore this comment!
I've watched your videos and your blog too couldn't find something about kinefinity Terra series? it would be nice to give us some advice -Thanks
Never seen one
I love this guy, learned a lot from him!
Great video Phil, thanks a lot! Ha, me in my little world with my GH3 and a $30 Fujian 35mm F1.7
But it's nice to dream
Is this better than the c300 mk2? I’ve heard that there’s a lot of problems with it.

Great camera. But think I will be waiting for the Panasonic EVA-1....
Fantastic to watch as always
Solid review - classy delivery. I was just thinking how nice that font is - am I focussing on the wrong part of the film? :) I was going to ask what is it, and then I thought there must be a font matching web service and there is (font squirrel) - it thinks it is Futura *something* - in Adobe Typekit, the closest to me seems to be Futura PT Book - is that a good guess?
Future medium
Philip, is there any camera out there that you don't add something external to it? ;)
Jake Alexander Bryant point and shoot?
Philip! Are you coming back New Zealand anytime soon? Would love to show you around if you're in town
Great review! What camera are you using for the vlog style selfie shots?
Sony RX100 V
hmm i still fell like the ursa mini 4.6k still beats it imo with extras like sdi out and timecode in, dual cfast and sd slots, cinema dng (widely supported) or apple prores at way better data rates. canon has the low light advantage, canons color science and that autofocus touchy thing...hmmm tough one
Lazybear low light, autofocus trump the Ursa mini for me even with its prores
I still use the 5dmk2, it has a look that I like and can't get on other cameras.
canturgan ha! Stick a blur filter on and you will be there!
Hey Philip, what kind of mic do you use to record your voice over? I'm in love with the sound quality
Edit: Typo
A lot of noise in the shadows Phil on the indoor shots. Slog 3 on a mirrorless?
it looks like the same noise I get in s-log on my a7sii, he mentions using the rx100 later in the video, so my gues is he was filming slog-2 on the rx100 inside
Time Machine Media it’s HD upscaled and low light.
Brilliant review - thanks as ever Philip!
Your idea of messy kitchen is my idea of spotless. Lol
I get the same feeling after watching a Philip Bloom camera review as I do after a short film. It feels so nice to watch these and I wish they were more profitable so that this could be the main channel I come to for gear reviews
How does C200 noise compare to the 1Dc (or just in general how does this compare to the 1Dc). Thanks for the review! :)
I think it might be noisier
may depend what you're shooting in, for example in standard picture profiles my a7sii is very clean, but in flatter s-log profiles it can look more noisy. my guess (based of off nothing) would be that in c-log it will be cleaner than the 1dc, but when shooting raw with c-log2 it may be nosier, however because it's raw you can clean up the noise more in post with neat video
JohnFelipo yes it does canon confirmed it in their announcement
JohnFelipo yes it does. That’s what you were watching for most part (says so in the captions)
Do you have a link? Swear I still can't see it anywhere haha...just saw that B&H added that info in the specs though
JohnFelipo look at canon USA's official video on UA-cam its a highlighted feature
Never left pornhub so fast 💯
Prove it.
@TheChosenOne I haven't laughed so hard at a comment all week.
As always, a masterful review!
Been waiting for a review of this. Thank you so much.
Would you say this is a good buy in 2020?
~11:30 looks familiar. Is that the main park in Ealing?
First of all, thanks for the review. Is it just me or does the Film Convert grading make the colors look unrealistic? I understand that the colors can be anything you want them to be and Film Convert can be great for achieving a certain "look". It seems like something more realistic would be helpful when reviewing the camera.
100% disagree. I have included STACKS of ungraded shots. I am going to make my finished shots look how I want them and I chose this look here.
A wild Mamiya 7 appears at 17:08!
Thanks for the lovely review. I am just wondering why I never see prime lenses on any Cinema EOS line reviews?
Trap Music London thanks. Shooting stuff like I was in the video there is zero reason to use primes. It’s b-roll so zooms. I use primes all the time for low light and controlled shots especially people talking.
Ok thanks for explaining - makes sense if you treat the C200 as B-roll cam. I would use it as a A cam though and doing some research if prime lenses work well on the C200. The big question being if prime lenses support AF or only MF. I am aware that all cinematographers use manual focus anyway, but then again I would very much like to have the option to use AF, too and only switch to MF of needed.
Trap Music London I think you misunderstand me when I say b roll. It’s not a “b camera” i was just getting wallpaper shots.
Oh ok I get the difference now haha. Thanks for explaining.
wow that little sony rx have a good quality too ......
glad your back!
I use a Canon C100 M2 and I have high hopes for the C200, but I'm not sure yet - jury is out. I don't quite get it - the graded footage in this review still looks flat and dead in my book.
What mic is this for the VO? Sounds gooood.
How do you go about filming people in public? Do you just do it, or do you ask for their permission?
Blue Key Media If they're in a public place they have no expectations of privacy so they can be photographed legally. If you are going to use the footage for commercial gain you will need a release, for non-commercial you won't.
Yes, I go back to see if I can find the same people a week later to get a release signed.
How did you get the shot at 5:06?
If a person buy a c200 because of its autofocus capabilities would a cinema lens then make any kind of sense, or are cinema lenses only for manual focus?
mejlgaardbliddal what sort of cinema lens? Yes they are generally all manual. Manual is great for lots of filming
Good work mate great review. I can see why it takes a lot of time to review.
woww,..the images look soooooooooooooooo pleasant to the eyes,..
