- I have finally got my friends modified R56 Mini Cooper S on Petrol Ped. This thing is a monster on the road and on track with 288 BHP you need your wits about you.
I this video I take it out for a spin to experience the noise and one of the most engaging drives of my life...truly awesome !
This car has had an engine re-map from Manic Motorsports in Daventry and has been prepared by Sussex Road and Race in Littlehampton. Here are their details...I think I might need to get in touch with them. A few Ruby upgrades might be in order !

I've seen a 2Jz motor swapping for this car. It was cool. But building the original motor intended for the car is just something special. I like both in your video. 😀 the blue for the track and the convertible for the daily. 🍻

This video got me excited! I just upgraded from a 2006 base mini to a 2013 R56 Cooper S. I already love the power upgrade but this Mini makes me want to modify the hell out of mine now...I think I will.

My mate had a B18c engine, plus all the necessary transmission, suspension bits added to his pre Big mini ( pre 1998) in 2004. I had a Dc2 type r then ( still got it now) and that mini made me grin like a chesire cat. Look these dc2 type r converted minis up on youtube, crazy cars

Hi again Ped. In the end I didn't get the roadster (as I was relieved of my "so-called" duties in the middle east) so I bought an 08 "S" JCW tuning kit Hatch. I like it more than the TTS I owned even though it is a quarter of the price.

I have an R56 S '07 and what you have here is not a heavy modified car. Everything it's almost tried and tested bolt-on upgrades. That's the best part of tuning this things: you can go easy from 175 to 250 Hp with more or less just upgrades to turbo (with the jcw one) decat downpipe and a manic map. No heavy modification needed...you can rebuild the engine to go over that or just be sure to have a fresh base motor, but the standard pistons and rods are well proven to last up to 260hp if not too old. ...and what about that srs lamps on the dasboard? ;-)

I have a 2008 Cooper S it is my first car and has over 250hp but it's pretty standard inside just an alcantara steering wheel and boost gauge - great cars!

I aslo have a R56 Cooper S and looking to upgrade her to about 250BHP (Stage 2 Manic Package).... What sort of 0-62 performance are you getting from yours?
And what sort performance from the 288BHP.
I presume that is a Stage 3 Manic tune with supporting mods.
Grimgor - it's not my car but talking to the owner he has a track day computer onboard and he's got 3.7 secs as his best !!!

The front half still isn't in yet. You can see the saddle clamps on the rear half are there, ready for the front. Just need to buy myself a daily. We had spoken before where i mentioned this, sorry for causing confusion!

You don't have to drive flat out on track. There will be people there who can give you tuition. You would learn so much about your car and it would be great to have another Roadster on track. You would have a blast.

The exhaust pops and flames remind me of my 2003 KAW ZRX1200r when down shifting. Greetings from Maryland in the USA. I have a 2012 Mini, 6 speed, I think R56. I'd like to have some of those mods and sound on my Clubman and still be able to put my shopping and Musician Equipment through my two rear doors and still have the reliability of Yours. Nice Review. Haha! They were needed. Having such a little turbo up front doing all the work created too much heat. Melted two rocker covers in one day. Hence the simple solution! I never did grow to love them though

my 06 cooper made slightly over 300whp on the dyno with a 69mm pully and I now have a 60mm pully, the thing is an absolute beast

well made vid,you make a good presenter.The mini is pretty much useless off a track then,torque steer by the bucketload and no grip on the road makes for a fun 10 minutes but a pain to actually use every day.

Dude, your convertible factory Mini Cooper S, is front wheel drive. The only Mini to have rear wheel drive is a race-prepared version, called the Mini Cooper S3. All other Mini's have front wheel drive.
Awesome MINI ! Grip levels seem to be a lot higher with a diff, I think that along with a new clutch will be my next move. Just read about the MINI's take over Goodwood, always wanted to go visit Goodwood. Just one question, how do you think the weather is gonna be, since it's in December? Never been to the UK. Just recently got a big brake kit and now my winter wheels don't fit :/. Should I risk going with Summer tires ?

Hi Fabian. There is clearly a struggle for grip when you put that much power through the front wheels but the diff makes a big difference and if you feed the power in carefully there is loads of grip.
It would be great to see you at Goodwood in December. I am no weather man, so it may well rain on the day. Let's hope not though and it must be said that Goodwood does sit in an area known for having it's own little micro climate so let's keep our fingers crossed. I will be on standard summer tyres as I suspect most of the other cars on track will be. In fact some of the cars will probably have sticky track focused rubber. You should be fine. Anything worse than rain, like ice or snow, and we wouldn't be allowed on track anyway. Come and say hi on the day ;-)

Harry Meredith just have the wheel wrapped in alcantera, otherwise that's a stock wheel
Is Ruby double wish bone at the front? Put a degree of camber in the front.
Not a big fan of camber unless it is for handling purposes ;-)

what clutch and flywheel is fitted? i assume single mass flywheel? Keen to know as im running same BHP and 400NM but having issues with clutch that cant take the power. Upgraded to Helix 6 plate but getting loads of chatter
Running the same setup without issues. This puts out 330ft lbs/ 450nm and the 6 plate handles it okay. Gear chatter will always happen without a sprung flywheel. Turn up the radio!
What do you mean with "bottom end of the engine"?
Did they replace crankshaft, rods, bearings and so on?
Matteo Vittoni Yeah, New Crank, Forged Pistons, Rods, Big end shells, main bearings, ARP studs etc. Since this video it's had a new gearbox and paddle clutch. It's not the most powerful MINI around by a long way but it's arguably the most fun.

+Petrol Ped on the onboard footage there's a small gauge showing a temperature. Is that oil or water temperature?
Pretty sure it's oil as it goes past 100 degrees C 😳
Keeping that engine bay cool is a big challenge. Hence the extra bonnet louvres. It has been known to melt rocker covers 😂
thanks for the response!Just wanted to know how hot they run on trackdays! Actually water temperature goes way over 90degrees C to in most cars ,if you check the temperature straight from the sensor!

No, front wheel drive. Just a slip of the tongue only picked up in the final edit !
Torque steer. Achilles heel of FWD cars.
Yup !
It's because it has a torque biasing diff, which is great for ultimate pace and lap times but not for driveability. If it still had the open diff I'd bet my bottom dollar there would be zero torque steer.
