Little bit of a different video for you guys today. It's tough sometimes to comprehend what it takes to build a 1.6L engine that makes 520whp, so today we're just going to nerd out with Lorenzo at RPM Power :D
very informative, thank you. Funny enough, yesterday I got the WMI kit for my car, and the main reason why I didn't get PI is the cost VS mileage. I'm doing about 2600mile/year on my summer car, and PI kit used is simply non-existing and new only few option @ 4-6x the price. WMI there's a ton of used item, and tons of new option (jb, snow, aem or even Bosphorus Innovations, probably the cheapest one). I totally agree this is way more maintenance, and probably less effective, but the risk I take on a old car, where most people want power for less money. Also you can do your own mix, I use a gallon of pure methanol (branded as heavy equipment defroster) for 7$ and radiator water for 3$ a gallon for a 50/50 mix of 2 gallon.
Absolutely love this vid. Lorenzo @ RPM is the undisputed Guru of modern Mini's. Unbelievable passion, attention to detail and superior technical knowledge can be perceived from every single word he says. Keep it up mate! Your work and efforts are greatly appreciated and inspiring!
Talking about how the factory crank is forged and has plenty of potential makes me feel bad that I turned my old N14 crank and flywheel into a side table for my living room 😂
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I am very interested hearing more about the N18 motor build. I would like to get info on the shops that you trust to get things in motion for a build if possible. 🤙🏼
RPM power & Lorenzo thanks a lot for all your hard work and your support to all the mini owners. I do have a 2011 cooper S and I have a couple of problems the smoke at idle and burning oil I do replace the oem oil cooler for an aftermarket with the remote repositioning cooler and I’m just cleaning up all the radiator and water supply from oil on the previous oil cooler failure what did you recommend to make it reliable and please if you have the parts please send me a message I’ll really appreciate thanks again.
Yes! a mini update, very underated car, 200 hp feels fast in this thing. Is he located in Canada? More info on your shop please 🙏. Thanks for explaining the methanol situation, i was thinking i would eventually have to go with it for my n18. Also the freeze plug is a scary thing 😳. Good information
Yeah, 300-350 whp is the sweet spot for the FWD minis for daily driving.. at least for what I would use them for. :D. RPMPowered.com is where you can find more! Links are in the description. You could also try reaching out on Instagram if you have any questions.
That freeze plug thing you were talking about took out my N14... I was driving on the high way, suddenly a massive explosion. Black smoke behind me everywhere. The freeze plug came loose and caused the engine to lock up. Connecting rod snapped half way because piston locked up. Bye bye engine :o
This was so satisfying to watch! The attention to detail and pure engineering approach to make this platform as bulletproof as possible is evident ! I have an R53 but this video is convincing me to sell it and buy an R56 platform with the turbo that I can bring to this shop and have turned !! @RoadsUntraveled
I don't like Mini Coopers, but the narration, knowledge and video quality are great, thanks guys! It's nice to learn something more, now I would like to drive 400+ HP Mini
This is such a great video eith amazing explanations about everything. I'm looking at getting a 09 copper s. I'd plan to replace oil pump and timing assembly and at some point upgrade turbo. If u see this comment what would you recommend i do to get a little more power over stock. And keep it reliable. Just new turbo?
This makes me miss my R53 so much. I’m curious about how you put all that power to the ground. I had pretty tame mods like exhaust, intake, & tune… I’d have to turn off traction control just to pull out into traffic or else it would kill the power and leave me hanging out there when the tires loose traction.
i like to take your experience.. I need to know a cooper s N14 , what cam they should be upgrade for more power without jeapardise the heat of the engine?, or what upgrd others item.. Thanks
I always just buy Toyota's because of reliability. Are there solutions to make Mini's or other vehicles reliable as well? Are there good resources for them online if there are?
Use the original mini cooper s by BMW the R53superchsrged one make 600+ on that annd I'll subscribe and support as if U do it right I may copy but I bet you couldn't get more than 400hp ohh supercharger stays but U can twin charge by adding a turbo with super charger then U see the most popular race/road mini cooper s but prove it's possible to do with ease it took me a full rebuilt engine and bonnet buldge big charge cooler with intercooler 45kaud the car handles best of the minis its why racers and enthusiasts buy best bang for buck try it won't cost U much with Ur connection s ib dare you to take ac2003 cooper s or John Cooper s and make 500+HP usable atw
the r56 engines SUCK period. to get 600hp out of a mini cooper it would be like 15k why invest 15k to get 600hp that will not be reliable when you could just kswap it for less then 10k throw a turbo on it and make 600hp while still be reliable unlike the n14 and n18 engines.
They have a damn nerve to call these hairdresser's cars a Mini. It may have the Mini name, but that's it......... its nothing more than BMW garbage that encases the usual piece of arrogant meat that usually drive BMW
This video makes me want to buy an engine and bullet proof it specifically for the R400 engine mgmt. system. It seems like I'd need to swap my n14 with an n18 though.

For the community... we appreciate you sir
It's nice to see MINI's getting some love

Super cool shop and very knowledgeable owner. I wish I lived somewhat close by to let them work on my R58 MCS.
Absolutely love this vid.

Maybe I misheard, but at 3:35 that looks cast?
@@rambow70it's not forged, he said saves you looking for a forged crank. So you are correct.
Pics?
@@rambow70it’s forged the parting line is wide.If you look very closely it looks like there’s 2 lines.

Fantastic video! Love the more technical side of things ❤
Glad you liked it.
Loved this video! Can’t wait for part 2, always down to nerd out over engines :)

That livery is so damn nice man. I thought stickers were only cool in the 2000s when fast and furious came out but your car looks so good.
really good info, well done

I like the statement the more I get to know the worse it gets. cheers from New Brunswick Canada👍🏼😎🇨🇦
This a great informative video. Knowledgeable guy. Thanks ⭐️
I’ve been waiting for this vid. 👍
K20 swap, got you 😆
I love German motors but sometimes they optimize or leave so much on the table that it's not worth re-engineering

Wow I appreciate that! Lots more to come.
How about the secret to building a bulletproof STOCK mini Cooper S lmao
Left the factory with misfire!😂
My R56 is on the lift right now 😂
@@danielavent614 mine is fine and I’ve been daily driving it, but I’m worried that the inevitable is going to happen at any time.
@tristenmueller9160 Mine started pouring oil out the filter housing gasket, so that's why mine is in the shop.

Hey im trynna get similar figure with my f30 1.6, does it somewhat applicable to a n13 too?
wow. what an informative video.
Is it possible to get this kind of power out of n14?
Where'd you get that vinyl in the thumbnail?
Where did you get that side graphic??????
oh man, great build. I wish there is a 600+ build with the 3rd gen. havent seen any. yet.

Bmw engines are reliable. Hence why Toyota use bmw engines 🙈🙈🙉🙉🙊🙊
Hi can you toldme please the specification for the camshafts please 🤔⁉️
What's the most inexpensive way to get 250 out of a 2012 cooper s ?
Fuel pump can deliever alot more power than 270. From a bmw engineer.
Where is your shop? How do I get you to upgrade my mini?
I have 3 mini cooper s's one is just for parts ,really interested in an upgrade. thanks
Awesome, although chill with the camera panning, it’s extremely irritating
N14 has a oilpump solonoid to
Where is your location?
ok so for those confused, the car is not bulletproof, you know like proof against bullets like from guns... he means its reliable, I think?
Pretty sure I threw the timing in my N12 last weekend...again 🤦
