All I want is a comfortable fit. Cornering stability. No vibration. And the ability to travel 200 miles on one tank. Of the bikes listed, only the Z900 can do that.
What I wanna know is the physical width difference between the 890 and the MT09. Both are on my list as powertrain options for a custom bike I want to build, but being narrow is a key requirement. If anyone is going to suggest a V engine, well, the second requirement is that it can't be too long, either, because the rider is going to sit tucked between the rear wheel and engine and I'm trying to keep the wheelbase under 64 inches. Goal for the engine is light, narrow, ideally a single cylinder head, and about 100-140hp with 60-75lb-ft of torque. Boost is acceptable, but I'd prefer not to.

Retuned for even more torque, all the latest electronics, better styling and a new updated dash. Yes it is heavier but it does have it's advantages on the road. It feels more stable and really solid and the motor is super smooth. It is actually pretty agile and handles well. It is not however a naked supersports bike which the Triumph pretty much is. The Z900 is a great seller all over the world for Kawasaki. The other option you forgot is the new Honda Hornet 1000. It's price places it in this category so must be included. It is without doubt the best value for your buck motorcycle. And it makes a whopping 155hp in SP form. It has Ohlins rear suspension and Brembo Stylema brakes which is incredible for the price. Ok it doen't have an IMU [neither does the Suzuki GSX-S1000] but it has most other things you need for a great fun naked road bike.
@@goldengun9970 I agree with you. The 22/23 SFV2 is way better looking. But if you want to ask why they changed the rear suspension, well that's because of weight reduction and performance. Ducati could no longer keep their single arm concept because they reached the ceiling of where they could improve without losing stability and performance. If you look at the underside of the new tail, it looks awesome to me. But I could love to see the old buddyseat cover over the new one. The front... It can go both ways but the old one had sharper lines in my opinion. I'm would never swap my V2 with the new one for its looks.
Notice he said the previous SFV2 can’t be compared … the 2022-2024 V2 with 153Hp destroys all of these. There are tons of 2024’s out there for smoking deals and super low Audi financing. Comparing the triple 750 to 990’s you haven’t ridden is also ridiculous… they will both destroy the triple in every way, even the KTM.
@@streetsandpeaks3013 New V2 is a completely different bike and engine 890CC No Desmo valves and the crazy expensive adjustment. with 120Hp. @ Yes, the consensus is they made it worse. Haha Also if you can buy $20K bikes you can probably afford a valve tune in 30,000km. The outgoing V2 is near super bike stats in a naked - at 392 lbs BTW.
@ The sad truth is the V4 is only 5lbs heavier, thinner between your legs and a better bike in every way… so once I commit to an extra $10K on top of the V2 price I will be stepping up. Still, if you haven’t ridden the outgoing V2 it is a beast!
I've just picked up a decent used 2013 street treble for £2400 with 37k on the clocks. It's already exceeded my fz1s for fun factor and wastes sv650s/sv1000s without trying. Triumph for me going forwards period.
Iv got a '02 Daytona and it is completely reliable. Triumph has only gotten better with time. Don't worry about it. It is a moot point and wasting your time unnecessarily. Character is what you get from euro bikes and cars that you don't get with generic jap bikes at all. They can be good but don't have that extra something. You can't always put your finger on it but it is there in smiles per miles
They're reliable enough. You have to stay on top of all the services. You get a bit of weird electronic gremlins. It will do 30k miles, but there are more service stop on the way.
One that I thought you were going to mention was the Aprillia Tuono 660/ V4? it would rival the triumph street triple as well. May not have all the horse power and torque as the triumph street triple as the tuono 660 but as the tuono factory V4 it would be over kill.
Why tho the new 2025 streetfighter fits better into the category with 120 hp and because of the very sporty seating position for naked bikes. and it is also almost a 1000 dollers cheaper than the ducati monster sp because you must compare the sp because the normal one has a significantly worse handeling. So why not the streetfighter.
I could not agree with the video more. Yamaha sp IS a better bike for sure, 890r is probably a bit faster in the real world but for me Yamaha is A bike while Triumph is THE naked bike. Pictures and videos don't do it justice, in the flesh it just steals the show. I own a 2020, decat, tuned 130whp 765 rs and it is a dream bike for me, doctor Jekyll, Mr. Hyde thing. Also, more than any other bike I rode, it can give you that naked feel when your field of view has no part of the bike in it and the ride is just so natural and easy that, at moments, you forget that you are even riding it. I wander if anyone shares the experience...
Yammie, dude, you're way too far into the KTM hate, and it doesn't take too many comparison videos to realize the 990 is going to win across the board, it's just a pleasure to ride and a cut above the rest. 765 is nowhere near as fun to drive around town being so far down on torque and needing to rev out so much.
990 is a litre bike up against a 750... down on torque... what a surprise, and not really a fair comparison. Probably more realistic to compare the KTM990 with a Streetfighter V4... it's not winning that one. And like Yam said, he likes the bike in general (So do I) but KTM have crappy sales practices and some questionable build issues ATM. I don't hate KTM I owned a 2020 SDGT for a couple of years and loved it.
@@xpantzif you are just comparing engine capacities, the MT09 is 890cc making only 117hp, 100hp shy of bikes with 100hp more. By that logic, many bikes won't be comparing with the street triple. It will never be a fair comparison, but from the consumer standpoint, I figured he is trying to provide insights and comparison to bikes that are designed around the same "tier" . The Duke 990 was targeted as a "mid sized" naked anyways.
@@JHGOGOGO I (Moto 2 ST) was out for a pretty hard ride with an MT-09SP a couple of days ago. Fast twisties, there was very little in it performance wise. I just get my chain pulled a little when people point out that some 200cc+ larger engine produces more torque and is therefore better. Also... the KTM 990 is closer in capacity to the Speed Triple than it is to the Street Triple. Bright side is that it's a feather in the Streeties cap that a 765cc is always the mark of comparison for considerably larger engines. They never compare it to an MT-07 or a Hornet 800 ;-)
I agree - talking about the KTM and new SFV2 that no one has ridden will bite him later. These are going to be track weapons (let alone the current 153hp SFV2). All the 990’s under 400lbs for the same money make the 750’s irrelevant.
Street Triple every day. As soon as you bring class and style into the equation, there’s no comparison. MT09 is for young hooligans. Ducati offers nothing extra for its crazy price tag, although I’d still pick it over the Yamaha. Kawi boring, and KTM history.
Eh, while I do like that bike, it won't be relevant for much longer as it's being replaced by the Hornet 1000, which I think is a better overall package.
My dealer (in Ireland) had the MT-09SP & KTM 890 & I bought the Street Triple on looks & fit & finish alone. Both the KTM & Yamaha are god awful looking in my opinion. Rode both the R & RS, couldn’t really feel the difference on the rd preferred standard mirrors & dash on the R.
If you have $14K out the door, you probably have $17K for the Ducati…and you know it is a better race bred machine. Does Triumph even race anything anymore??
2022-2024 Street Fighter V2 … on sale now … Desmo V2, 153hp. Why would you buy any of these over the last gen SFV2?? Better yet, find a lightly used one for the the price of a new 750…end of story.
There is not better between an MT09 SP and the Street Triple RS, both have a different focus. Best is having both. IMHO you're over reacting the KTM reliability, had a few and they always worked... It's not a Ducati or Harley from 20 years ago. Had no problems with a 790, 890R and the 1th and 2th gen Duke 390... Still have the last one just4fun. If you compare the previous gen MT09SP, Street Triple RS and the Duke 890R the Duke was absolutely one of the best bikes to ride.
Think you've definitely missed, on another competitor...
Tuono and rs660, alot of people here in aus choose the rs 660 and tuono over the 765rs
I'll wait for the CB-1000 Hornet! Save $2000,get 157 horses, HONDA RELIABILITY! NO CONTEST!
I love my 2019 z900. But I've never rode any of the other options.
Ducati is looking pretty sweet. Its a toss up with the Triumph.
Mt09 runner up
Both older monsters and older street fighters are better looking. Why did they have to go backwards on looks for?
@@streetsandpeaks3013 New V2 is a completely different bike and engine 890CC No Desmo valves and the crazy expensive adjustment. with 120Hp. Lighter engine, lighter bike at 388 dry More comfortable position. It's toned down for ease on the street, way less aggressive. It is right in line with this class of bike except for the price of course
@ Yes, the consensus is they made it worse. Haha Also if you can buy $20K bikes you can probably afford a valve tune in 30,000km. The outgoing V2 is near super bike stats in a naked - at 392 lbs BTW.
990 and the Streettriple are on my shortlist to buy in a month
Z900 in red please, in Kawasaki I trust.
You still haven’t compared to the Monster SP you rode a few months ago. How’s its compare to that?
It’s the price of a 2024 Streetfighter V2 so why bother?
@ yeah, if you get it new, that’s a fair argument. I was thinking the used market for the 2021-24 monsters are probably getting reasonably priced now
I had the Monster Plus and demo’d the Monster SP and the price was so close to the SFV2 it was no brainer for upgrade.
@ that might have to stay in the stable awhile if Ducati keeps going away from the Desmo engine. That could be the last SF with it.
I don't know that I consider triumph a British company with parts being made all around the world!!!
The new ducati not having Desmo - wallet - emptying service problems either. Chain driven valving instead of those hideous belts.
I would go with the base model z900 - really good value for money.
Agreed. Partly because I own one. But I did pick it up brand new from the dealer for $7k. 2024 Z900 ABS for almost half of that Street Triple price.
Honda Hornet 1000 is coming!
can any long term owners comment on street triple reliability? it seems that they are the most reliable out of the european bunch?
Iv got a '02 Daytona and it is completely reliable. Triumph has only gotten better with time. Don't worry about it. It is a moot point and wasting your time unnecessarily. Character is what you get from euro bikes and cars that you don't get with generic jap bikes at all. They can be good but don't have that extra something. You can't always put your finger on it but it is there in smiles per miles
Based on what I've seen, they are reliable enough that it shouldn't even be a concern.
They're reliable enough. You have to stay on top of all the services. You get a bit of weird electronic gremlins. It will do 30k miles, but there are more service stop on the way.
I have a STR 765 RS 2020 with 35k km and I haven't had any problems. I don't know what could go wrong. It is a well built machine.
@@TusSin01 I've got a 22 R that's been rock solid, and I ride it pretty hard.
Desmo valves have some disadvantages but reliability is not one of them
Why not put the monster 937 sp in the mix as a competitor too?
Love the videos man, what are you're thoughts on the suzuki gsx 8s
One that I thought you were going to mention was the Aprillia Tuono 660/ V4? it would rival the triumph street triple as well. May not have all the horse power and torque as the triumph street triple as the tuono 660 but as the tuono factory V4 it would be over kill.
I’ll stay with the street triple RS
Sorry but - by what logic is Ducati Streetfighter a competition for Street triple??? The only comparable Ducati is the Monster!
@jakobliebendorfer3460Just get the 2024 SFV2 … 153hp naked race bike. You know you want to!
I will take the Z900 all day. Have you ridden one? Its so nimble I dont know what you are talking about.
Yammie noobing the crap our of ST765 again 💀
Please hornet 1000 vs street triple as they are the same price
The hornet isn't even available in USA unfortunately. Honda hates us, we get all the old crap late.
@ but for us outside the usa we pay a lot more for bikes. Really need him to do a review on which to choose between the two bikes as I can’t decide
Well I agree with his of top 3. I however shop with my heart and not so much my wallet. MV Agusta Brutle 800 RR for type A personality.
1:23 One of the headlights is burnt out
Yammie, dude, you're way too far into the KTM hate, and it doesn't take too many comparison videos to realize the 990 is going to win across the board, it's just a pleasure to ride and a cut above the rest.
So if Honda and Nissan merge like they are talking about. Will Nissan have a motorcycle program?
No, there merge is purely for future financial benefit. Plus Honda Auto, Honda Powersports and HondaJET are all separate on this matter
U should have also compared hornet 1000
I absolutely love my 765 for those who want to know I've raced my buddy's mt09 and win almost every time
So what about a MV Brutale 800RR? This IS the most powerful in this category.
It also costs as much as a MT-10, so that kinda kills it
Yes, but it's not a mass produced Yamaha. And, if you are talking 1000cc + naked's you'd get a Tuono anyway!
@@phillipsnelling4252 exactly, more power for not that much more cash. The MV is so sweet tho
Street Triple every day. As soon as you bring class and style into the equation, there’s no comparison. MT09 is for young hooligans. Ducati offers nothing extra for its crazy price tag, although I’d still pick it over the Yamaha. Kawi boring, and KTM history.
Triumph needs a styling refresh that headlight is like decade ago
Bro is street triple paying you extra ?
Yet my money is bet on Hornet, smart riders know, squids go with the other options.
What about hornet?
Is it available in the USA?
new hornet is nice bike but a class below these bikes (maybe except Z900)
Nah, I'll wait for the Honda Hornet
What about against the monster sp?
I would guess on track st or duke 1, v2 2, mt09 and then z900. I woild go st or mt09 out of the list.
Based on looks:
1 Ducati
2 triumph
3 Kawasaki
4 ktm
999 yamaha
Good list, but as i don`t like this wasp look let me change your list a bit:
1 Yamaha
996 Triumph
997 Kawasaki
998 KTM
999 Ducati
I would never by a motorcycle based only on looks.
The angry insect look has really grown on me, especially when you see the RS in the flesh. It runs the Ducati close on looks.
Never make a list 👏
I would've thrown the Honda CB1000R in there too.
Looking at the new Honda CB 1000 hornet sp. But MT-09 SP just has all the gear.
America will not get a Hornet. So that bike is irrelevant for us. It is very sad
@@Jon-nz3dm I would be very surprised if we don't. It will take a while but we will probably have.
@@Jon-nz3dm no way. That sucks.
Honda Hornet cb1000sp just joined the chat.
Striple is the bike, unless you are richer, then Ducati.
UK is still part of Europe post brexit, but it isn't part of EU. 😬👌
If you have $14K out the door, you probably have $17K for the Ducati…and you know it is a better race bred machine. Does Triumph even race anything anymore??
What about MV Augusta Dragster rRNA rc
Z900 👑
You're right about the packs, that's just fucked up shit, who wants a hooligan bike without the tech pack.
BMW F 900 R sport plus ?
Alright, I FINALLY am going all in on my entries for this 🏍... Got a yearly membership for the first time just so I can max out the entries.
This bike is so dope and I miss my gsxs750 so badly! This would be an awesome upgrade over that! Would be an epic way to start 2025 especially after this year has been to say the least lol
Great video bud! Can't wait to get on 2 wheels again someday and also hit up some track days!
New honda Hornet!?!??!
can you please get it right on ktm for once. problems are on 790 platform till 2021. my ktm duke 890 gp hasn't let me down once. i appreciate your videos a lot but everytime you start yapping about KTM i get super irritated. please ride one instead of making totally unfounded statements. in every older video where you 'actually' rid one, you were super positive. by the way you have to compare the triumph street triple rs to the duke 990 r, not the standard 990. still a fan of your videos tho.
No brutale 675? sadge
Good video more striple content!
9:49 part of Europe, not part of the European union
you cannot tell this to Americans - they don't even know what the capital of Europe is but they will opt between Paris and Berlin ;-)
Facimating, you didnt consider the Honda and the Suzuki., I wonder why.
The UK was, is, and always will be a part of Europe. It's a geographical and, still, political fact. I refer you to Switzerland and Norway.
Leave everything from here just pick the new Honda Hornet CB1000❤❤

a fully specced bmw f900r is $1700 less than the street triple and Mt09 SP in South Africa :( Its the smart decision right?
Yamaha MT09 is the answer
What are you smoking? I have a Z900 and it drops into turns. It's more nimble and quicker steering than my lighter ZX6R. You don't even notice the weight in slow and medium speed turns.
No MV Augusta?
The new Honda Hornet and SP are way more powerful and CHEAPER...
Bmw f900r?
Bro you’re making me start to hate street triples because you’re rinsing the content out of this bike. It’s starting to get boring
