That “cool building” at the end of the video has a ton of history. It is currently the ski patrol boot room but it was originally the ticket office at the bottom of the resort. I've got the same instep issues. For inbound and slack, Atomic Hawx Magnas fit perfect. For full touring, I have the Dynafit Radical Pros as they fit high insteps too.
Nice to know those fits work! For me it all depends on the line believe it or not. If I run my foam touring liner in my new boots or my old liner no pain. I cut the tongues out last night as a last ditch effort but I think the speed machine tongues are a lost cause for my foot. Some liners are destined to fail I guess. The shell works.
@@serenitynow8265 Oh shoot, might be due for a trip then huh? It's good, holiday crowds are dying off and just in need of another pow re-set but the town has grown like crazy!
Stick with Fernie. Wait for a dump. It’s amazing. Cedar bowl can have waist-high powder. But…..: I haven’t skied there in years. Meaning the hill doubled in size since I’ve been. Grew up in the area. And Fernie is still My favourite.
We're booked for a week at the end of Feb. Been doing a different spot each year and the one thing James hasn't mentioned, is how close the hill is to the town. Really looking forward to the 6 minutes it takes to get from our rental to the hill.
The hill is the backdrop of the town, it's basically at the foot of the resort, right on the Elk river. I always enjoy the views on the drive into Fernie approaching from the east, because the resort towers over the panorama, and is visible from 20 kms out... Highway 3 winds it's way through the first couple mountain ranges, this side of the prairies, and most of the towns are situated right along it. Makes for some nice easy access, compared to say, WhiteWater or Kicking Horse. You'll love Fernie. Gotta eat at Nevados if you like tequila bars.
@@BeetsByHometownBrew Nice! Last year when we did a week at Whitewater there was an accident on the road up to the hill where a school bus ended up blocking the entire road and it took over an hour to get it cleared. And even at the best of times I could see that road being an issue. That being said we had a metre of fresh over the 6 days we skied so it's kinda hard to complain.😃
@ Yup that in-road can get super-gnarly. I almost sent our rental car over the embankment and down the ravine. That was after narrowly avoiding rear ending the other car that slid straight through the corner. Lucky the snow banks were so high, it was just a tow, opposed to a written off rental car...LoL But yes, at the same time, we've had some epic pow days there, too.
Best boots I’ve ever had (have). Are back entry Nordica N9/75. Hand-me downs. Probably 30-years old. Chipped some plastic over the years but best-fitting.
They don't make em' like the used too. Genuinely when you find a boot that fits nice, it's almost worth buying 4 sets the next season before they change the shape.
We were there from Dec 31 - Jan 2. Jan 1st was awesome, can't believe how many chairs I had to myself! Was talking to young guy from Calgary, I asked him who he was there with, he said his parents but they were too hung over to ski.
It was so damn quiet, even at the busiest time of the year. Typical of mountain towns. Locals tend not to ski unless the conditions are PRIMO.... but heck, felt pretty close to primo to me.
Omg! I’m the same! I have a high instep and a high arch. And I’ve wide(ish) feet at the front. I have terrible trouble getting snowboard boots that fit 😢
The tire run and a lot of the traverse runs to get to a lot of those hidden places can be really sketchy sometimes, last year in January there was one that was sheer ice heading down into lizard bowl. fun times.
Wanted to treat the misses to a trip in hotels. She's spent many months living in the back of the truck so I'll be back in the Van for my upcoming solo missions.
Sounds like we've got the same feet issues. High end step, the bump on top, skinny lower legs. I'm looking at intuitions, zip fits or other. Got any thoughts?
The solve I have found is to cut the tongue right out of the boot where bump is. I also have no issue with the foam liners in my Unlimited touring boot. If you have a 'higher volume boot' it's not going to be the shell, it will be the liner. I'f you're gonna invest in liners, get zipfits because you can keep inserting and removing foam and they will last for ages. I'm thinking about Zipfits myself but don't have the $$$ saved to cough up.
@@riseandalpine I've got 2 year old Intuition Power Wraps with an extra piece of high density foam at the shin area. The fit is almost perfect. Just that they have a little more room after 2 hours of skiing and then requires the usual adjustment of buckles. But ... there is a small issue of heel hold that surfaces when doing moguls in tight steep trees. So the fit is 85% to 90% the way there. And the Zipfits (plus new footbeds) is $$$. Seriously considering it but reluctant because at the end of the day it might be only a bit better (or worse!) and the only way to know is to shell out (punnn) the money and try. I don't see any negative reviews of zipfits. Which may reflect that they really are the bees knees -- or maybe that no one wants to admit things are not perfect after shelling out (punn) valuable ticket money. I do like the idea of a fit that lasts years though. But is the cake real and for what feet types is the cake the wrong flavour.
I lived in QC for about 5 years. To be honest I've got no desire to invest any money to ski that way. Much better than Ontario, but not worth it unless you live in driving distance.
@@riseandalpine I live in the states and we are just trying to plan a trip. Banff is number 1 on the list just trying to not spend a crap load of money.
Man, Fernie looks goo-ood, this year... I don't miss the traverses, or the run outs tho...I also hear they did some heavy duty run maintenance over the summer. Some of those cuts were starting to look like Big Timby...
Fernie is rocking this season man. Base is DEEP too. Nice to see some mountains do run maintenance... Not sure if Whistler has done any brush cutting in years.
3:10 I have a really similar problem, try removing the sole to see if that helps and if it does maybe try and make the sole not as supportive or thinner, just something like that.
Smaller sole sometimes helps! I cut the tongue right out of the boots when I got home. Sometimes I put the old liner in the new ones and that works fine. I think these new liners will just not work for me.
Any tunes in particular? To be honest I just go off the cuff and do what feels best. I get bored of some of the music and sometimes like the raw sound vibe.
Nothing in particular, to be honest I hadn't heard them before, I just liked the "hokey" feel and the way you fit them into the vids. It's like, all movies have a sound track.
@ Hey James there's a tune called "Best Laid Plans" Piano music by @David_Hicken I commented on his video, and tried to link it for you, but YewToob quashes it. Anyway, he likes the idea of that piece appearing in a ski video, and it seems like one that could be worked into an epic slow-mo, or pow sequence. Food for thought. A nice little musical showcase. Guarantee you'll have people asking "what is that music?"
When is Laura going to make her own channel without you? All you did was whine about your boots, your skis, how sore you are... blah blah blah. I think you're just afraid that she's getting better than you and would have 10x the subs in no time.
My bro needs to do some dedicated lecture vids. How did this not occur to me until my 3rd watch through? 😆 We need a hung over sermon, on Sunday mornin', Preacher man. Impart some hard wisdom on your congregants. You do have that certain look. That righteous je ne c'est quoi?
Hi Rise and Alpine! We are coming from Australia to Whistler on the 22nd, stopping in Vancouver for a day, then coming to whistler for 7 days of skiing. Will you be in Whistler in that time? We’d love to chug hot sauce with you.
Dude, you have the wrong boots. Period. There are boots for high insteps, wide front of foot , narrow heel, big calfs. You are buying the wrong boot and trying to tweak it. NO!
It's always an interesting balance. I used to be in HV Mach 1's and that was a solid fit but too much wiggle room and lost performance. Currently, I'm not paying for boots so I try to work with what I'm given. In this case the boots feel totally fine if I put my old liner in them or my foam touring liner. It's 100% a liner issue, not a shell issue. I got home and cut the tongue right out of the liner... No joke, no tongue. It's working okay but I think I'm gonna put j-bars on my old liners and keep humming in those until I can afford zipfit.
The ski sauce store is fully restocked. Grab sauce, gaiters & stickers while you can! I'm bad at math so I probably didn't buy enough inventory again 😂www.skisauce.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopH6C2-mmRdeBQH55hSzBGZftjoUOB01jeG_1BSa2yr26ZGViWZ

Dooooode... so good!
Stoked you liked this one!
Love the videos man, you ever make your way over to QC? Mont Tremblant interests me but no good videos on it
I lived in QC for about 5 years.
Because of your previous review video I can't watch anything to do with Fernie without saying "What the Fernie!?" 🤬😜🤣
It goes without saying hahaha
Love the vids
Thanks!
GOAT UA-camr
Thx Craig!
Love this series of vids, well done. But i do miss the music you used to use on the older clips.

@ "Best Laid Plans" or "Continuum" by a fellow Tuber, named David_Hicken. That guy's work needs to be featured in a pow-tacular production. For real.
When is Laura going to make her own channel without you? All you did was whine about your boots, your skis, how sore you are... blah blah blah. I think you're just afraid that she's getting better than you and would have 10x the subs in no time.
That would be an absolutely wild twist 🤣.
Just got my new carving skis and now I’ve gotten some noise from the chairlift😂
🤣
No shame in carvers...how carvy are we talkin'? LoL
I had a great time at Fernie.
So glad. Such a wicked hill.
Good to have some carving skis eh
Carving skis are always so good
What’s the make of that Mountain Hardware shell? Looks dope.
I think it was Boundary Ridge
I love the jacket. Pant's are XL but a touch too short on my since I'm tall.
Can we get a Rise and Alpine/bcmtb collab?
We're working on it. Our schedules never seem to line up!
Yayy im here
Congrats on first.
How do they do it! Legendary speed.
ever thought of skiing in montana?
Every single day!
Isn’t this the same thumbnail as the other fernie video
Same run, but Laura is in front of me.
Day 19, man Laura is pretty dang brave to make it down corner pocket
She's a maniac hahahha
My bro needs to do some dedicated lecture vids. How did this not occur to me until my 3rd watch through? 😆 We need a hung over sermon, on Sunday mornin', Preacher man. Impart some hard wisdom on your congregants. You do have that certain look. That righteous je ne c'est quoi?
I've always wanted to just do like a 3 hour rant video hahahaha
@@riseandalpine Right? Just don't get deleted by YewToob. On behalf of the ski community, we'd miss you.
I’m sad I missed the launch of this video, I was at school😢
That's alright, school is more important! You're watching this now.
Make sure to impress everyone on the Griz chair and nail the Great Wall of China.
The great wall of China?
Few people understand how grueling bowling is on the body. Thoughts and prayers for your left butt cheek.
Still can't believe the cheek took a beating like that
Waiting for the day you make the trip up to marmot basin 🙏🙏
Oh trust me. Me too!
You know you're getting old when bowling wrecks you in places that never have been rekt before...
Every day I'm getting older. It's weird bro.
Need to see a BCmtb collab
🔥🔥🔥
Nice to see ya back in the comments
Next stop, The Dutch Wallet.
The most obvious progression for her skill level
No babe! I’m not going to your in-laws.. Rise & Alpine just posted I’m busy!
😆The cat litter will just have to wait, hunny-bunny!! Remind me again tomorrow!!
@ 🤣
I'm always waiting for these now 🤣🤣🤣
@@riseandalpine I gotta start brainstorming then! 🤣
Dequa tour!
high class stuff!
Fernie, home of the mediocre bar
But the skiing is fun
So very true hahaha
Hi Rise and Alpine!
We are coming from Australia to Whistler on the 22nd, stopping in Vancouver for a day, then coming to whistler for 7 days of skiing. Will you be in Whistler in that time? We’d love to chug hot sauce with you.
I follow the weather so very hard to say. Be sure to say hi if you see me buzzing around.
Sounds good!
Dawg. Zipfit.
I know dude... So expensive tho :(
Worth every penny my dude. If you’re a 25.5, I could hook you up when you come through Utah.
Sorry. I take that back about cedar bowl. For your watchers…. Cedar bowl is the Worst! I would not go there ever!
Terrible powder!!!
Very true... I hated it there as well
The videos have a huge problem…
They’re getting a bit too good
You're making me blush 🤣. Really glad you're enjoying this trip series!
Adventure Laura checked off the Corner Pocket.....😊👍
Pretty spicy run....she earned a pass on the shots of hot sauce.
⛷⛷⛷⛷⛷🔥
She deserves a season's pass LOL
To have Fernie, with most terrain open, to yourself, at high tide, is neither realistic, or fair. This is CGI trash. Unsubscribed. 😆
AI is getting real good. Haven't left my couch in months.
