    I shoot my MTR and Anschutz off a bench only with myself or with a friend or two. It’s really neat the versatility of a CZ and the “build” . My health is rapidly declining but my shoot time with my son or friends is really still the best. CAMARADERIE!!!!

      My doctor gives me a couple more years. A few days ago I rode my little Honda motorcycle to the range with my CZ 457 MTR, in its case, strapped to the side of the bike. Never stop enjoying what we’ve got. If it can bring a smile to our family’s faces all the better :)

    CZ, Bergara platforms are both good platforms and fun to build on and your assessment of the CZ is right on. But in the end if we get serious enough in the sport we go full custom even if what we had was just as good.

    Great video/content again as usual. I came back here because I'm desperate to solve my feed/extract issues with my 457 and I'm dumbfounded by all the coments about how great these feed, and the availability of parts (not match barrels). I have a 457 that I purchased used but with a new IBI barrel on it. Shortly after I got it I decided to sell my Vudoo because it was running just as well as the Vudoo and just as accurate. Of course as soon as I sold it, my 457 started having extraction issues. After scouring the internet and waiting a while on a list, I got hold of those Volquartsen extractors and that solved my extraction problem instantly. However, I also instantly started having feed issues! I routinely hit resistance loading rounds (several brands/lots that all used to feed well). I have a whole collection of rounds with these crescent-shaped divots in the nose of the bullet, and also some crescents I cleared out of the chamber and mag well after a match since under the clock I was forced to rm a few of these guys home. I tried new aluminum mags from L3I, no help. Back to the CZ factory polymer mags, no help. I even replaced all the mag well components with DPI aluminim stuff, replaced the barrel grub screws, action screws, triple checked all the torque, and last weekend I was still having trouble. Accuracy has gone down the tubes as well. I really want to make this CZ investment work, and every time I look at RimX or whatever, I find myself back at your site for inspiration, lol. But I am running out of ideas and things to try, here.
    For now, I'll be happy to run a single 10-round mag through this thing without issue. Dry-firing and just dry-cycling rounds, it seems to run well. But back out at the range, it usually doesn't take long for the games to begin. Any ideas?

    • @PursuitofAccuracy
      @PursuitofAccuracy  Рік тому +1

      So something that sounds like you havent tested. Put the old extractors in and see if the feed issues go away. Could be the VQ extractors are not allowing the rim into the bolt face but once chambered are extracting 100%

    • @RobGuglielmetti
      @RobGuglielmetti Рік тому

      @@PursuitofAccuracy whoa, that was fast, thank you! You are right in that I did not try putting the old extractors back in, and as I typed this post I thought that maybe that would be a good idea. I have to hope I didn't chuck them in the trash, I may have. The difference in the "hook" from the new ones to the old ones was so ridiculous, I figured for sure I'd be solving my problem with these new ones, and I think I may have just tossed those old ones in the trash! Stay tuned. Thank you for the quick reply.

    Josh , I just got my CZ Modacam back . Jon told me to double check to see if my mdt xrs would clear the barrel . I called MDT beforehand , they said it would fit fine . Well, you were right , they were wrong . 1” beyond the receiver needed relieved for a complete free float . The remaining 24” of barrel cleared easily without modification . Modacam is great to work with . I sent him my receiver to thermal fit the MullerWorks barrel . He also fixed my chassis for me . Those MullerWorks barrels ain’t cheap . But dang, I’ve never seen such workmanship looking through the borescope . Getting the chassis back soon . Thanks for posting this vid .

    Barrels for CZ457s are, from what I’ve been able to see online, perpetually out of stock. Thankfully my stock pro Varmint shoots great. I’d love a heavy match barrel for better balance but I’m cheap! Maybe I’ll sign up for the MCR in stock notification and cry once they come back in stock as I still likely couldn’t afford one!

    You can also go to Rectify LLC who can fit a heavy 1.15 or 1.18 straight contour barrel without cutting the deep notches in the chamber area to mount the barrel. A light press fit takes the stress out of the action, perfect headspace is achieved without shims. No need to send your rifle until he has the barrel in hand and they try to keep a couple Shillen super match barrels in stock. They have the aftermarket triggers and can also work the stock trigger to below Dave pull.

    Josh.... Have you seen a difference in precision accuracy at 50 yards between the 16.5" and the 20" to 24" barrerls? I expect to see a difference past 50 yards, but I shoot against alot of other 457s and Bergaras with 20" to 24" barrels at my local ARA, and my 457 VPC with a 16.5 is on the pedestal just about every competition.

    • @PursuitofAccuracy

      I got a Lilja to replace my VPC 16.5” barrel . At 50 the Lilja is minimally better. I’m talking about 0.03” smaller group average over 500 rounds in each barrel indoors . More than likely , I just am a little bit more stable with the Lilja at 50 . I really haven’t seen much difference at 100 yds outdoors . That 16.5” factory vpc barrel is a great shooting barrel .

    I placed in the top 20 in the PRS National Finale with my 457 and I don’t think it was the rifle holding me back. The balance issue is definitely the shortcoming, I have a 22” barrel, but it’s only .92” diameter and that’s the heaviest I could get. I needed to make my own weights in order to get the center of balance forward far enough to be viable because no one makes them heavy enough and even then it’s still not quite as far forward as I want. Maybe if I had a longer forend like an ACC instead of my Element, but I’m to cheap lol

      Drop in barrels of that diameter were only available custom when I got my barrel and even now the ones Josh is talking avout are twice the price. My buget is too low for a $1300 ACC or a $750 barrel. My whole setup combined (incluing a free scope) cost me less than a Vudoo barreled action.

    Balance on a CZ with a standard 20" barrel is tricky. I'm in the process of trying to add enough weight to the front end of a MTR in a MDT XRS chassis. I'm adding the heaviest weights to the M-LOK slots out front and then plan on mount a lead weight on the front "shelf" underneath the barrel that is made by my long-ish ARCA rail mounted to the rifle. Next step is to explore one of those heavy MCR pipes...

      To get to a similar point in terms of precision and ergonomics with another brand of rifle you would pretty much need to do the same thing.
