Standing too far back on the forehand at mid distance, hitting the ball too late, Dan. You've gotta change your swing at mid distance, Dan. It needs to become a full stroke, if you're going to counter. Watch how the Chinese play from that distance. Either you play the full stroke counter, or you lob. You're hitting like you're close to the table all the time. Can't do that from mid distance because you don't have enough spin+power and your opponents can easily crush those wherever they want. You've gotta contact the ball when it's higher in the air, which means standing closer. And you have to swing more full and more forward. Otherwise, just back way off and sky lob and wait to hit a hard counter, or hope they mess up. There's no sense in hitting these close to the table strokes from mid distance because you're supposed to be countering, and those are not spinny enough or fast enough to be offensive in any way. Also, try to hit DEEP when you counter. It's hardest for the opponent to attack those
