This is such an awesome film, I am glad I watched it in it's entirety again.. Everything that Richard Chamberlain has done over the years is so brilliant... Richard just has this wonderful ability to make his character so believability real and brings him to life.. I love this composer's work all my life and his music has always touched me deeply. Thanks for posting this film.
Thank you so much for posting this superb film. I watched it many times upon release, as a teenage cinema usher (The Regent, Brighton). Sadly much of it went completely over my head at the time. Only now, many years later, can I begin to understand what a great film it is...
Man my mom let me watch the weirdest movies when I was a really small child. I remember that I found the movie disturbing, but I still watched it to the end.
We now know that Tchaikovsky was- in all likelihood - a much happier person than the one we see here or read about in biogs. What shines through in Russell’s dramatisation is the inspired meshing of music and visuals . A great filmmaker .
Many of the scenes are over the top, and almost embarrassing to watch,. only in a typical Ken Russel style. Nerveless there are very few directors, if any, would have the courage now to commit to screen such a personnel impression of a great composers tragic short life. Ken Russel took historical and artistic licence to the extreme in such a melodramatic take. Which in turn mirrored Tchaikovsky's music. Love the Music Love the film. .
I saw The Devils at 14 and I remember sort of genuflecting as I left the movie aisle. I was truly afraid I was going to hell for seeing it. Probably because I'd attended catholic school for ages and knew the thing was true... This was excellent. Lisztomania too. I'd love to see some of the other composer series that Russell did for the BBC
Noe Berengena the 6th symphony compiles all of his misery, depression, sorrow, fears, contemplations of death and what comes after, all into the work. The final movement especially you can hear his tortured soul expressing itself.
One of the best films i have ever seen.
a feel proud to be an extra in 1 of his movies
My favourite film.l just love it.Thank you for sharing.

Magistral
wildnorthsea+ Thank you for sharing this moving and beautifully directed movie.
Tchaikovsky was one of the few composers capable of capturing the sheer shitness of what it is to be human in this mortal life.

The saddest ending ever.

Lots of historic imprecisions. Tough in the realm of fiction an interesting movie.
Christopher Gable, Glenda Jackson, Ken Russell perennials both so good here. Even Richard Chamberlain good for once.

Was Tchaikovsky actually such a tortured soul? Russell depicts him as a lunatic at the end.

Internalized homophobia, dude. It’s a killer.
rip Ken Russell
