Captivating combination of music with visuals . Doubtless will have won many new friends to Tchaikovsky’s music even if come of the cognoscenti will have complained about the many (irrelevant ) factual inaccuracies.

I read an article recently which suggested that the tormented aspects of Tchaikovsky’s life were blown out of all proportion . Whatever the case , this remains a brilliant piece of cinema.

The opening scene makes a good case for slow movement of the Polish Symphony. Russell has a genius for meshing image with music even if he plays fast and loose with accuracy!

This sequence must have been difficult to shoot. But being Glenda Jackson such a great professional.. She passed the proof with "Flying Colors". 👍

We now know that Tchaikovsky was- in all likelihood - a much happier person than the one we see here or read about in biogs. What shines through in Russell’s dramatisation is the inspired meshing of music and visuals . A great filmmaker .

The soprano singing phrases from the Letter scene ( Eugene Onegin) is April Cantelo. It is a shame she didn't get to sing the whole scene. One of the most versatile and well known classical singers of her generation.

Russell casting of Glenda Jackson coul not be more accurate. Both the character and the performer are despicable.

Historically inaccurate. Tchaikovsky's wife wasn't a nymphomaniac nor was she put into a low insane asylum. She was in a sanitorium with a comfortable room and enjoyed a pension of 12,000 rubles per year. He provided well for her and didn't hate her.
