Hong Kong's high-flying martial-arts action hero, Jackie Chan, stars as P.I. Ryu Saeba, who's been hired to find the runaway daughter of a publishing tycoon. Ryu's first impulse is to turn the job down...until he sees a picture of the beautiful girl, Shizuko (Kumiko Goto). Ryu finds her aboard a cruise ship, and much to the annoyance of his jealous female sidekick Kaori (Joey Wong), Ryu seems more interested in catching Shizuko's attention than returning her safely to her father. However, his romantic plans quickly go awry when a ruthless gang hijacks the ship to hold the passengers for ransom! Ryu must swing into action to dispatch the bad guys and rescue the gorgeous Shizuko!

@@Texy88 I honestly wonder why. I'd have to guess that it's probably got something to do with the stunt work, but I don't see anything wrong with it.
He didn’t get along with director Wong Jing (whose humour could get rather risqué at times, which Jackie’s not massively keen on) and wasn’t keen on the slapstick humour.
@@Texy88 Ahhh, I can see that. Unfortunately, those two aspects felt like it really made this movie an "accurate" anime film. It was like watching a cartoon brought to life, with how animated and expressive Jackie could be.
@@Profile__1 They did substantially tone down Ryu Saeba’s womanising from the original source material, as fans would not have accepted Jackie playing an all-out pervert.
The Best adaptation city Hunter storyline ever told
Check Police story with Jackie Chan. It's far more close to what the original City Hunter is
Now you can check the french adaptation, it was made with lots of dedication and not bad at all :)

That stylish way that Richard Norton removed his jacket and exposed his metal sticks (0:32-0:34) apparently took a great many takes to get right, but boy, was it worth it for how it ended up in the final film!

Jackie Chan as Ryo Saeba?!?! While I'll admit the representation is off, Jackie Chan is the PERFECT fit! Ryo Saeba is a combination of Goofy and Badass, and so is Jackie! I wish I knew of this movie sooner!
The movie is great but back then mister mumble is much closer to Ryo Saeba though less entertaining but fun anyway.

Since Jackie Chan & Richard Norton didn't get their actual fight in Twinkle, Twinkle, Lucky Stars, they just made it up here in City Hunter. Was hoping they could get another actual re-match in Mr. Nice Guy, but not quite.
I hate to see my idol Jacki being beaten! But obviously, he is truer than so many fake heroes in those faker movies!
Well, by Jackie playing someone who is more vulnerable and not necessarily the best pugilist in the world, it ultimately meant that more people could relate to him and his characters: because he was more like a normal man, like the audience, rather than a seemingly undefeatable superhuman fighter.
