- NIsei Goju Headquarters will be relocating to an undisclosed location.
Location will be disclosed after we build it. The last promotion ceremony at this historic dojo will be held on Saturday,June 21, 2014
@ 6pm-8pm. Spectator's fee is $20USD.

I trained at this dojo under Grandmaster Frank Ruiz, Chaka Zulu and Wilfredo Roldan. I would love to get in touch with Sensei Roldan! He was a huge inspiration in my life! He called me "rubberband" because I was so limber. I learned my katas from him. I attended with my two brothers. He made us do knuckle walks if our report cards weren't up to par 😂

I had the honor of studying under Grand Master Frank Ruiz in 1969. A great experience with life long lessons. Five and a half decades later I still train in the arts.
I am proud to know you for more then 42 years... you truly are the light of Nisei Goju, you personify what a Grand Master should be... You're my family, you and I have so much history between us... I remember designing the Nisei Brand / Patch / Logo for Grand Master Ruiz and the pride of acknowledgement from him.
I wish you God Speed in your new Dojo and would be proud to be part of the grand opening...

I have great memories training Nisei Goju under Sensei Joe Richardson and Sensei Earl Monroe in the early 70's. While I no longer train Nisei Goju (I train and teach Okinawan Goju Ryu and Matayoshi Kobudo), training, Nisei taught me to love the Martial Arts!
Roldan Hanshi passed away last December, 2020.

Remember studying Nisei Goju Ryu with Master Sensei Herbie Thompson and Sensei James Sisko in Miami back in the 70s. Nisei Goju Ryu is a beautifully esthetic system in demonstration and a highly effective combative martial art as a self defense system.

@Legba daniels I don't know at this time. Haven't seen any of those cats for some time. Remember they had a female Nisei Goju Ryu practicioner back in the day by name of Evelyn who literally had Bruce Lee and Steve Sanders level of speed!!! I'll do some research and let you know what I find.
@Legba danielsDid a little research and Sensei Herb Thompson is still active teaching Nisei Goju Ryu Karate and helping the community by mentoring young people in Miami. Didn't realize Sensei Thompson is only 11 years older than I am. Herbie Thompson was born in 1946 and I was born in 1957. Interesting that you're in Boston now as you grew up in Opa Locka. I grew up in the Haverhill/Lawrence area outside of Boston and moved to Florida after serving in the US Coast Guard in New York City. Just retired from the big US Postal Plant in Opa Locka on 57 Avenue, Red Road. Remember watching the kids working out outside in Brooklyn's Prospect Park in the Sanuces Ryu style of Jiu-Jitsu developed by Master Moses Powell. Also saw the late Master Thomas LaPuppet at the old Oriental World of Self Defense show at Madison Square Gardens in Manhattan promoted by Master Aaron Banks with Master Tadashi Yamashita. Nowadays martial arts is more sport and fitness oriented. In the early days the emphasis was always on actual self defense!!!

Much respect and love for Hanshi Roldan. Sad to find out through this medium that the dojo is no longer there. I trained at Nisei Headquarters and earned black belt grade under Hanshi Wilfredo Roldan. Earned because nothing was given at Nisei Headquaters. I wouldn't have it any other way. What I learned at this dojo and from Hanshi Roldan carried over into my life. Hanshi Roldan never turned his back on me. I credit him with helping me become the man I am today. I've seen and experienced firsthand how Hanshi helped many through his love of the Martial Arts. I wish Hanshi all the best at his new dojo. OSU, love and respect - Sempai Maximino Vega.
