I absolutely not believe that methamphetamine is worse for concentration then amphetamine. I would love to see the data supporting this. Desoyxn (meth) works often very good for a lot people because meth has even fewer peripheral side effects then regular amphetamine. Its indeed all about the route of administration that makes the difference. On that I agree.
Oh, is Desoxyn an ADHD medication- but chemically the same as street meth, without the risk of random stuff being added, plus the dosage difference?
Street meth absolutely is. I’ve been addicted to all of it. Adderall gave me focus on a different level. Meth has you getting distracted, hazy, you have more memory loss, more sleep deprivation, and soon I could only focus on minor tasks and I’d spend so many hours stuck on one task

It’s true. At least if you truly have adhd.. I’ve been on both sides. Two completely diff drugs. That one different molecule in meth makes a huge different
What's ironic is I haven't tried any stimulants at all and I have always grinded my teeth at night and i have a skin picking compulsion (OCD diagnosis in the past.) The depression from adhd makes me not brush my teeth as often as I should or shower.... so I feel like I seem like a meth head. Also I feel hyper/adrenaline and have insomnia, the longest I couldn't sleep was 3 nights, it was horrible.
But...at 31 after waiting 7 years for someone to listen and finding a psychiatrist and new GP , have been diagnosed with ADHD C and will be prescribed vyvanse
I hope that the Vyvanse helps and that it doesn't make anything worse for you.

This sounds a lot like me. I also take Vyvanse for these reasons, but I never take it everyday

I’m glad I was able to get off ADD meds. I was diagnosed with ADD at 5 years old and started with Ritalin and went on from there as I aged. Adderall was the only thing that worked for me but over the years it did make me snappy. Ritalin made me to hyper focused and paranoid to the point where it took hours to get anything done. Ritalin made me pick at my skin constantly and I hated it. Dexedrine was similar to Ritalin. Vyvanse did absolutely nothing. Another thing with amphetamines and methamphetamines the longer you take them the more likely you’re going to need to placed on antidepressants and bipolar medication because your dopamine and serotonin levels become unstable. Once I tapered off amphetamines which took several years my emotions and overall mental state started improve. There are consequences to long term stimulant use just sharing my experience
Thank you, and I'm sorry that medications did not work better for you, and that you have found other ways to cope with your ADD. Many people with ADHD obtain benefit from medications from stimulants for years, without problems. But we certainly need more research to sort out how commonly problems arise, and to see if we can predict who is likely to have bad reactions to medications so that they can avoid them.

To be honest aside from the damage that comes from preventing people from taking meds that could help them, I believe this false narrative that these drugs are equal, only increases risk of people self medicating with street drugs. Ie. People who can't get their meds during a shortage or because of a lack of insurance may try a drug that is in no way safe for them because they falsely heard it is the same.
Thank you for pointing out this risk, and I agree that it is real, not just hypothetical.
When I got diagnosed with ADHD I was worried of their similarities. Turns out, being High on Meth is dramatically different than Adderall. Meth is seriously nothing like Adderall, but people are quick to judge people that have a prescription for some odd reason.
ive snorted both i would say adderall is just weaker but still dose the job i would not give adderall to my kid tho thats just dumb as fuck unless i want them to become a crack head cuz its what made me into what i was and it started with a dumb ass doctor telling me i needed adderall just saying it makes way more druggies than it dose making people better
That is because your tolerance is strong so you don't feel the effect.
Also your ADHD dosage is about the same every day.

You probably only take it in pills .
It's common sense that the way you take your medication is just to stabilize your health.
Take a bigger dosage and Snort your medication you will feel Adderall and Meth are the Same
@lalo viveros wroong. Ive worked with Meth addicts. Also, everyone has a different tolerance level so your point is invalid. 10mg of adderall will get a normal person high. With ADHD some people need up to 40mg per day. Furthermore going beyond the meds means you want something stronger with Meth which would clearly surpass any possible legal dosage. That is why psychiatrists limit the use which you cant due with meth which unlike adderall releases the entire dopamine. Maybe its like meth if you take 200mgs in a single pull, but again, your argument is invalid because every person reacts differently.
I wouldn’t be able to sleep or eat on meth and it made my adhd worse in ways…

I was addicted to adderal for almost 7 years. When i couldn't get it, i would use street meth but it wasn't the same for me. Adderall made me want to get things done but meth just made me feel like it's a party, made me want to talk to people and have a good time.
Hello Dr,ifrom historical point of view, but that s only my opinion why is that, adderall is succesor of weght loss medication brand name obetrol,and obetrol had in past half d-methamphetamine and half amphetamine sulphate in it,i think in 1950s-1960s.Then they changed becouse of federal law in 1970, to the d-amphetamine and other amphetamine salts.
I don’t believe obetrol was ever formulated as racemic amphetamine. Benzedrine and biphetamine were racemic amphetamine. There is a new drug evekeo is the only drug on the market today that is racemic amphetamine

It would be nice if we could come up with a chemical similar to drinkable alcohol, that doesn't destroy the liver, kidneys, or heart and could help people stop drinking altogether. As a biochemist, I understand there are several medications that rarely work and most have horrible side effects. I have spoken to many who AA doesn't work due to beliefs. We can detox them with Valium and Ativan but staying sober is a much more complicated construct.
The medications aren't quite as bad as "rarely" working. Disulfiram (antabuse) works for many people, but it is so easy to not take it if you want to drink.

So many people online just see that there are 2 words that share a lot of syllables and are like "People with ADHD NEED meth," and it's like "No... Shut up. These are different words that mean different things."
I Never knew about the methamphetamine/Parkinson’s connection. I suppose that could explain Adolph Hitler’s involuntary tremors.
Stimulants can also directly contribute to tremors, separate from their possible role in Parkinson's.
What about Desoxyn?
Desoxyn is available in the US as the FDA sanctioned, prescription form of methamphetamine. For the reasons outlined in this video, the only times I have written for it have been when someone came to me already taking it, and had substantial evidence that it didn't cause side effect problems for them, and was more effective than other stimulants.

Doctor, can you talk about the difference between cocaine and crack cocaine? For example, are the drugs similar or identical chemically but because the route of administration for crack is smoking that leads to more of a powerful effect in the brain, despite the drugs being chemically identical, correct me if I’m wrong please?

One component of meth mouth for many individuals is poorer hygiene. So as an analogy take a beer (Cup of coffee) and compare that to vodka (amphetamine) and ultimately to injecting pure alcohol into your veins (meth).
Even if you calculate the equivalent dosage amounts so that one ends up being just as effective as the other, you would still probably be 100x more likely to become addicted towards the most potent version of the substance.
Your analogy doesn't really fit. The active ingredient in all of the forms of alcohol you describe are exactly the same chemical, ethanol. So we're not talking same family, we're talking the same substance. Methamphetamine and amphetamine are not the same chemical. They have subtle but significant differences in what receptor systems they bind to, and the rates of action at those receptors. You can't increase amphetamine dose to some level at which it acts just like methamphetamine.

They have some similarities, as well as clear differences, and that would be true regardless of who has taken it. Meth is actually a legally (but rarely) prescribed substance, and as someone pointed out in these comments, you can buy it in tiny doses over the counter in most pharmacies. And if you listened to the video, I strongly discourage methamphetamine use, because it is so much more likely to cause problems than Adderall.

I 100% agree! I don't think that you are rude at all to inform someone that they may be more effective at achieving their desired effect by improving skills or changing the approach. In fact, I think that it is far kinder to give honest information when it surrounds a factor that can so easily be corrected. For example, I could not have possibly come to any evidence based opinion of the statements that he makes in this video had I not performed a quick google search for any written statements promoted by him. Now, I know that he is prone to promoting his own emotionally formed beliefs that evidence indicates are far more harmful to society than any one substance currently available for use by the general population. Because if we spend all of our time trying to convince people that they should stop doing something they want to do, even if they are not infringing upon anyone else ability to pursue happiness, then we aren't trying to find our own way to achieve happiness without infringing upon the civil liberties of those who we have just decided to label as "bad".
