Anybody who is going to school for animation really needs to watch this on a daily basis. This is a collection of the most ultimate of disciplined technical artist masters of Sakuga.
Wow. This is seriously one of the best sakuga compilations that I've seen! Even still, I can still think of hundreds more amazingly animated scenes just off the top of my head. That says a lot about the awe inspiring art form of animation. And it's not just Japanese animation too. Great animators are popping up all over the world, from France to the United States. =)
I just knew there was a term for when the animation becomes smooth, but I just didn't know how to go about finding it. I became interested in trying to find such a term after reading TVTrope's article on Animation Bump--Now I finally know the term: Sakuga!
the one thing western animation can never seem to catch up to Japan with, even when making imitation anime. I've never seen a Western animated film or show that has had animation like this that WASN'T animated by a Japanese person... I wonder why that is
432neptune Disney theatrical animation (actually, almost all theatrical animation) is mainly 3D these days, but yeah. I should probably have specified television animation in specific, though even the 2D Disney movies like the Frog Princess despite being very good - in my opinion pale in comparison to movies like Red Line.
Sims I think it's because 2D Disney and films like Redline prioritize different things in animation. It's not that Disney couldn't do it, they just didn't want to.
because simply said the way the animation is think and done is well..different? knowing that a anime serie can get money mostly by merchandising, the time you spend on the production is less than the western shows. SO, basically, less time means less time to animate with a lot in between. the animation becomes more nervous and get to the point. japaneses animators always find a way to use the less drawings possible but make every single key frame the more accurate and lively as possible too. So here one main point that you dont have in western animation. DISNEY has a fucking long time and ressources. So you see the overshoot and stuff? they will make it beautiful and yes the animation is amazing but the feeling is completly different. Another point is the producers...and money condition. Its everywhere, in japan the producers are kinda afraid to try new stylish design drawing you can clearly see some animators really are GODLIKE or maybe more author style than mainstream style. Same in usa, try to have a look of all the preproduction drawings and look the final rendenring.... sometimes you loose a lot like for frozen. BUT, however, now you can see many coproduction with europe japan, korea and usa. western animators get really interested with japan style.. bahi jd is an nice example. So, Im sure that one day we will get shows that you will doubt the origin!
YAU Nadia All good points, and I really hope so! I do agree that the industry itself is very different between Japan and here which could also play a part, especially for TV. Sometimes animators for television in Japan will spend days working on a television show with minimal breaks of any kind and the whole setup is super rigid, meanwhile the production of TV shows in the US tends to be rigorous but still less demanding and way more flexible and in varying styles which can challenge animators to always be creating new kinds of motion.
This was hard to follow, I like the choices of anime and music, but as a video it didn't flow very well. I couldn't show it to anyone have them be impressed by it. Still worth a thumbs up though.
Sakuga isn't a person, it's a special term used to refer to animation scenes/cuts with extremely high quality animation standards. Very long series don't often have a lot of 'sakuga' scenes (because it's expensive and time consuming), but many long shows (including naruto, one piece, and even bleach) have had some very good sakuga scenes. =)
@2:16-2:32 I want to say that's Nakamura, but near the end of that scene doesn't seem like something he would do... Flawless animation non the less. And major kudos to whoever put this video together, gotta love The Seatbelts.
The term "Sakuga" Doesn't just apply to complex cuts of animation, it applies to all animation complex or not. Sakuga is just the Japanese term for animation.
+CornishCreamtea07 No it just means animation or drawings, but anime fans use it to for well animated scenes, probably because there arent a lot of anime with actual animation
Ah. I pretty much assoicate any Sakuga scenes that uses heavy action camera where the camera is always in motion and never stagnant as Nakamura. I'll check some more of Mitsuo out.
The reason why western TV animation does not do sakuga style scenes is because this generation of animators do not have the skill or talent to do so successfully. Animated TV shows in the states do not require well animated sequences. Most of what you see on american animated television is all about the writing and not about the animation. I doubt that american animators have the same sort of drawing and animation skills that anime requires. They are probably trained to do shows like Archer, metalocalypse and South Park. Besides, 90% of the animated TV shows here are actually animated in other countries. Any good animator in this country is most likely working on features. I would bet that most american TV animators would have to change careers if they moved to japan.
They are now focusing on cgi. I think for shows, using cgi 2D characters is lazy. Idk about us we are getting into so much cgi 3D stuff we dont know what to do with ourseves
Go on tumblr and search for spencer wan he is actually american and isnt a pro but he animates fpr an upcoming anime studio in america he does amazing sakuga. U need to check him out and plasmaghost but he is not american tho.
Mobi Studying styles, connecting an animators work to different shows/episodes/movies to pinpoint which one, and reading the credits to see if that animator worked on it.
Gilberto Ruiz Rincón Why?... don't say any bullshit, just give me a fully valid reason why a show can't be used in a sakuga compilation even though the animation is good and that's what this video is about.
Anybody who is going to school for animation really needs to watch this on a daily basis. This is a collection of the most ultimate of disciplined technical artist masters of Sakuga.
0:30-0:35 was all that just in 1 cut?thats crazy
Mobi Yup - Animated by Yutaka Nakamura, he’s a prodigy in this medium.

There's no surprise that Iso is one of the most featured animators in this video.
I had goosebumps through this entire video. Some of the animation is so perfect it actually looks CG. Amazing.

The term "Sakuga" Doesn't just apply to complex cuts of animation, it applies to all animation complex or not. Sakuga is just the Japanese term for animation.
Actually, i believe sakuga is for more complex scenes
Any and all type of animation is called anime or manga
I could be wrong however :/
It means money shot, it's where the most amount of time and effort goes.
+CornishCreamtea07 No it just means animation or drawings, but anime fans use it to for well animated scenes, probably because there arent a lot of anime with actual animation
@@CornishCreamtea07 According to Bahi JD, making sakuga doesn't cost money, it's just talent / skill
It's a video show case though. It should flow properly shouldn't it? In my opinion minor changes should be made, that's all.
this isn't a mad with some sort of theme like that. It's more of a showcase of some of Japans top animators set to some music.

the thing i hate about these videos is the lack of proper sources, its very difficult to find what sequence is linked to which anime, thumbs down
