some of these (especially some of the more modern tv examples) do use 3d props to plan out the shot and use as reference points for the final animation in order to make the process of making the scenes faster and more accurate. Great work, though.
@@inmate411 no it isn't, cgi isn't usually this detailed and you would recognise cgi because hand-drawn characters usually seem out of place from it. Aside from evidence I've basically seen enough sakuga vids to be able to differentiate between cgi and 2d sakuga. EDIT: There are some cgi shots in the vid tho, like the k-on clip which has a 3d background and objects.
some of them aren't using 3D models or any 3D software to trace out background animation or referencing and they do looked rotoscoped for the untrained eye but it's not, (or all of these cuts except K-On who uses CG) key framing is the key and the brain (or your animator brain) is the 3d software (as you noticed some sudden stops or warps and some shit in any cuts here when an object is changing angles or foreshorthening like this Eureka Seven ED cut 0:24 or the flipping pancakes 4:16 or this cut from Evangelion 5:50, ) these were key framed and in-betweens or dougas do the job smoothen the frames, i love animators Hiroyuki Okiura or Toshiyuki Inoue (Kou Yoshinari also) for how great the looks of it and they look like CG even tho they're hand animated, and also check their character animation and damn Hideaki Anno cuts are amazing 6:18 (and in perfect shape too, this was made in around 1987 and 3D graphics aren't totally advanced for handling such intense details like Unreal Engine todays and you need to build your own 3D software and not installing a software on your computer which is hard btw and also there's no rotoscoping in anime at the time, they were untouched with CGI since the 80s except for Golgo 13 in 1983 meaning this is not rotoscoped and was animated by the hands of the Evangelion director Hideaki Anno) and the rocket launching scene on the same anime has such intense fidelity of details that were never make it used on todays high budget anime movie since they were constantly used CG for some reason (laziness or time saving periods is one of my guessed reasons) and also his cut from his past works like Daicon III from 1983 (the itano circus swords to 3D parallax buildings
Hey buddy, I might be wrong but I think that the girls music band at 0:58 is 3D cel-shaded. It's way too smooth and perfect to be hand drawn...Or at least they had some solid reference for it.
You should remove the annotation from the 2nd clip, it is actually Takeshi Koike's animation. You can see this very scene in one of his works /watch?v=jjg2LywL2qo (skip to 3:02) The style is very distinctive too. Btw these are some very inspiring and impressive animations.
Some animators are so skilled they can basically make a hand-drawn model look like it was made in CGI. That's insane.

It is not combined, it's just professional key animators who can draw and move objects like they're 3D model and not flat.
Some of them are combined.
Even a lot of the old animations did it

Kou Yoshinari is the best 3-dimensional 2d animator.

I hate that everything is 3D now! I wish they still made them like this. I love this!
Nearly everything now is 2D, half the stuff in the video is from recent years.
But this... is 3d
@@inmate411 no, this is 2d animation that is drawn SO well that it looks 3d. that's the point of this vid.

Wow I love that. I didn't know there is 3D motion combined with 2D animation.
they are just perspective masters
wow ! so awesome .And on some of those cuts there are so compounded with inbetweens haha! Really beautiful !
