What a final that was, this 9-darter... Finalist's level - unforgetable :) Someone can say - "yee this is only darts", but this is great sport and is really important to have good people around you.

Great seeing the nine darter from the point of view of the crowd reaction, wish I’d been there. I sometimes wish there were more nine darters but I’m glad it’s still rare enough that it’s special when it happens.

Both of these two men are class on and off the stage. They don't need to play mind games and trash others. They have the skill to get it done on the stage.
Fantastic final which included the best leg of darts ever played. Not sure how someone could say that darts isn't one of the best spectator sports. Glad to see Smith get the championship and glad to see MVG eat a long needed piece of humble pie.
I can't understand why everybody wants to see MvG loosing. Is that some kind of hate against the alpha? MvG is a great sportsman and always has good words for his opponents, if they deserved them.

Yes - his sportsmanship usually is very lacking. It must took a lot out of him to look like a gracious looser.

Had £50 on Michael Smith to win this in late November! Only bet I placed on it too. Thanks Michael, made me £500 richer and also, makes up for how close you came last year!!
Funny enough I got just over a grand with a lot of wee 5 and 10 pound bets best I got was in June at 14/1 worst I got was 15/2 in November got 12/1 and 10/1 in between,honestly bet him for value for money and belive it or not I wasn't that bothered when he got to the final as I thought MVG would win,by the time it was 5-3 then 6-3 I was absolutely bricking it lol,he got over the line and both played great darts,happy days.

Great final, buttt definitely not the best. Second half wasn't top standard play and more importantly there was no drama, no big tension. Take away that perfect leg and it's a fun but not particularly remarkable final, especially compared to for instance that classic Taylor vs Barney one. Nevertheless, thoroughly enjoyable tournament with a fine climax.

I can't say I've ever been of fan of Smith, perhaps because he's failed so many times at the finish line. That being said, this was an excellent match and I haven't been filled with so much joy for someone's victory before. I will be watching him with more enthusiasm in the 2023 season!
I am a massive darts fan & have been for years but some of the things the so called fans do are not for me & spoil it at times.
