I started in 04 and I was 12, until late BC I thought it was smart to use cooldowns one after another to have 'higher dps for most of the fight' Nobody corrected me until we were in sunwell.
I've been playing for 5 and 1/2 years now, and this was really helpful. I try to blow all my Cd's when they are all up, but i've never taken procs into consideration or hitting a 1 min cd twice before the 2 min one is up, thanks preach
I am all for more of this content as well as shows like "Stand Out" from Preacher. There are an endless supply of guides for rotations and gearing everywhere, but very few resources that look at WoW at its most fundamental levels and can make a person instantly comprehend how everything fits into place.
Huh, you learn something new everyday! I have been trying to get very serious about my dps game, these are very helpful tips. I definitely forgot about those main stat potions o_o .
great video preach, this is the first expansion since i started playing in classic that i'm actually maining dps i've always tanked on my paladin but now i'm ret and actually really enjoying my hunter right now. great stuff any bit of info helps now i want to make a weak aura for my ring weapon and trinket procs not just ability procs on my paladin like for final verdict or set bonuses etc.
FYI: This does not important for every class. As a hunter, I pull 90-100% of my bracket, and there are much more important things such as knowing the encounter, and knowing when to use your spells.
PREACHHH!!! Can you pleeeeease do a video for HOW TO MOVE EFFECTIVELY IN RAIDS with the mouse (strafing etc..) and how to transition to mouse moving from Keyoard moving!! Should we do full mouse with the mouse keys for strafing? mix keyboard and mouse? how do you reverse move?? PLLZZ !! :D
Djoun TheFirst Also this goes really well with DPS week : if you can't move effectively, you can't do any good DPS! (you'll probably be spending your time trying to get in hitting range or dead somewhere xD)
My retribution paladin has a much easier ability to line up cooldowns than my elemental shaman, and that is part of the reason I am raiding on my paladin even though I have never raided seriously on a melee class before (except as a tank). My damage has certainly increased since I have started gathering better gear.
yea it was fun back in 5.4 as a destrolock to dps some full heroic geared destrolocks down with some normal geared warlock just by watching all these procs :p
as an ele shaman I have EM (2 min CD) and Ascendance (3 mins). After the pull when the ring is back up again I will only have EM up - but do I save it to be powered up with ascendance? I would miss out on one ring proc with EM but have ring + EM + Ascendance on the third use of the ring.
I play a windwalker monk and my big cooldown is serinity at with a 1.5 minute cd. My other bg CD is unleash xuen at with a 3 minute cd. So I use xuen at every other serenity. How should I use the beating heart of the mountian if it has a 2 minute CD so I just miss using it for every other serenity.
Branflakes I play WW as well and I have just been delaying my serenity for when the trinket comes off cooldown. I don't know if this is necessarily the right decision though. I could have all my serenitys hit a lot harder or have one or two more. I would like to know which is more beneficial.
Akrilic Syrodai its kind of situational. if you're doing something like blast furnace where u need burst. waiting that 30 seconds for more burst on the elementalist. if its more of a consistent dps such as gruul or not going to boat on maidens you probably wanna use separately. now I don't play ww (or monk mostly for that matter). this a more general way of thinking. I'd suggest doing gruul on lfr (ugh) and trying it both ways if you get higher dps when saving it then that's probably better, but, I'd guess using it when if comes off cooldown is probably better. would also help if you see its off cd and noticed a couple of your best abilities are almost off (upwards of 5, 10 maybe stretching it) wait for those to get off cooldown so you can get more of your best abilities in during the duration
SpinandWin WoW I'm aware that they don't stack. They just happen to line up and you stack them with buffs like the trinket buff I mentioned in my post.
So playing Dwarf Fury Warrior means I watch out for Bloodbath and Recklessness. I can get a BB+Reck with every 3rd Reck, and I want to make sure I have Enrage whenever I do this. I need to watch for Sudden Death and Wild Strike Procs. No other real DPS CD's yo worry about. That being said....only averaging 12k DPS even in 657 gear is pretty low. I feel like I'm missing something.
What about stacking haste buffs when you cap let's say your instant casts and filler spells? Are there any ongoing discussion about this specifically for casters?
sarphog haste will always soft cap. it varies for different classes but generally there will be a point where you stop wanting haste at all because getting another stat will end in better dps results.
Yes obviously, but I was thinking about how the stat weight changes after hitting the soft cap (which was when GCD was capped, yeah?) and how it changed when your filler spell is capped. I'm playing a mage mainly, but I was wondering if there were any discussions at all that contained these numbers and whatnot
I think we will see lots of /gkicks because of some people popping their ring to pad meters and fucking over rest of the raid :P They will be nice though with bloodlust at pull or burn phases. Looking forward to the next batch of videos!
The reason for cooldown stacking is pretty obvious and could be explained to anyone who isn't mathematically inept with 'because the dps gains are multiplicative'. I really don't even try to track the procs not because i don't understand the concept but because there is simply too much to track already with the rotation and not dying to mechanics - a video on good ways to integrate proc tracking into rotation tracking would be more helpful.
***** Healing is a totally different game to play. It's more working together with your healing team to coordinate and chain CDs, and doing other assignments to ensure your raid stays alive. It's not about doing the most healing. Sure more EFFECTIVE healing is always better, but you have to worry about things like "Will my mana last this whole fight duration? Is it worth blowing this big single target CD on this dps player, or will I need it for a tank in a few seconds?" etc.
Have a friend who refused to use any cd longer than 2min on trash because he needed to "save" them for bosses. Thank god he stopped after the first 3 expansions.
i macro all my cooldowns, trinkets, mecha rockets to my main attack button so it all blows up at once. hilarious sometimes. i never considered timing it with procs, though.
Pretty interesting video. The ring procs really did confuse me alot. P.S: Preacher, can you do vlog with your opinion on the 3million sub loss ? I've heard alot of famous UA-camrs' thoughts on this and I really want to hear yours too :D
ninjaman0003 I figured it out in about... 10 minutes. It's not really that hard to use, just overwhelming with the amount of options at first. Then again I am a techy type person. xD
Damn those testicles hunging from the weapons are sure disturbing. But jokes aside. I see the point you lead to and i personally like this kind of gameplay. you need practice and timing and some brain work to line up everything and 'scheduale' each fight individually. What i do not like is randomness. i don't want to relay on something that may or may not happen. i want to have controll over what i do. So Rng get lost you're not fun.
This makes absolutely no sense...yes, for burst damage it's awesome, but that is short lived in comparison to the entirety of the fight. If the fight is going to last 5+ minutes, then using your cooldowns the moment they are available is far better than waiting....for anything. I'll give you an example, my paladin has a 214 dps weapon, and a proc item that gives 1200 versatility once per minute (average), which amounts to a 2.4% increase in damage output. It might seem wise to wait to hit seraphim in order to gain an extra 1.6% damage output on top of the 2.4%.....but here's the thing, waiting even 5 seconds to blow seraphim will avoid 2 holy power gains, and the versatility gain is additive NOT MULITPLICATIVE. So if I were to do 2.4% now, and then blow seraphim for a 1.6% later, I will do far more damage then waiting 5 seconds. The weapon is going to only hit 3 times, for a total of maybe 60 points of extra damage with both of them on, versus 20 on sera and 40 whenever the weapon goes later. There are some abilities you do want to save for certain situations, but those are extremely specific and geared toward game mechanics (like holding shield for healing stuns on the everbloom boss). I know this is a tank and not a dps class, but it works with my mage and warlock stats as well, I've tested it against a dummy target and used a 5 minute timer.....the total damage across the 5 minutes is less if you wait. The point of a long fight is to kill them quickly, not put a huge burst damage and then have a downtime of nothing. If it were a 1 minute fight, fine, burst all you want, blow everything on the guy and clear the trash quickly. (10 + 2) / 2 is 6 (7 + 7) / 2 is 7
I listened to everything he said....he stated to stack your cooldowns in order to get the most effect out of your damage as possible, unless you knew ahead of time that you needed an effect at a certain period. He then stated that knowing ahead of time whether you needed to use an ability would let you know if you could pop that ability toward the beginning of the fight and you would be given a "cushion" based on how much time is left from cooldown til use. What you failed to do was read what I wrote about him stacking a cooldown on top of a random proc buff.....I stated NOT to wait for those during the "cushion" because it is unnecessary, the proc will happen regardless and it is an additive effect not multiplicative....meaning....the damage you do overall will be the same regardless. The other thing I stated was that waiting specifically for stacking possibilities yields LESS overall damage than just blowing your cooldowns as soon as they pop, test it out yourself on a 5 minute dummy fight. If you know your rotations so that you are continually advancing the most damaging abilities into the cooldown phases, you'll raise your dps to the top as well as overall damage, I do consistently. You can also use Ovale addon (iirc) to help you figure out the rotation you should be using for your character to reach the maximum potential....I used it for a long time trying to figure out the order and then threw them in macro sequences, then used TMW to put timers on the screen for various procs. In most cases, facerolling your keyboard will more than likely yield higher dps than waiting for things.
Chris Giles I said I used it at the beginning to find the rotation.....but I don't use it anymore. There are certain things that can increase your damage output that the addon cannot teach...for example, the mage has a talent for a prism that turns damage into aoe, and if you use an aoe ability on the prism, it will do more damage.
Man, how can you trash other's mogs when this is what your character looks like? You didn't even turn off the cloak for gods sake. I honestly think I will have to take your mog opinions with a grain of salt from now on.
Just a simple 15 minute video on some basic things like procs etc. has helped me alot and helped me become a better player, thanks Preach!
I started in 04 and I was 12, until late BC I thought it was smart to use cooldowns one after another to have 'higher dps for most of the fight'
Nobody corrected me until we were in sunwell.
Am I the only one who actually likes the female orcs?
+Jerry Peet Preach likes them.
I've been playing for 5 and 1/2 years now, and this was really helpful. I try to blow all my Cd's when they are all up, but i've never taken procs into consideration or hitting a 1 min cd twice before the 2 min one is up, thanks preach
Preacher an updated addons video please!!
Can't wait for Part 2, F5ing your channel since Sunday ;)

Hardest thing is predicting how long a fight is going to last.
Shadow Priests be like "wut iz cooldowns?"
Nathan Miller Dat Power Infusion and Shadowfiend tho :P
Nathan Miller More like : Survival hunters be like :''wut iz cooldowns?''
Huh, you learn something new everyday! I have been trying to get very serious about my dps game, these are very helpful tips. I definitely forgot about those main stat potions o_o .
Thank you for posting this. We need more mythic raiders.
great video preach, this is the first expansion since i started playing in classic that i'm actually maining dps i've always tanked on my paladin but now i'm ret and actually really enjoying my hunter right now. great stuff any bit of info helps now i want to make a weak aura for my ring weapon and trinket procs not just ability procs on my paladin like for final verdict or set bonuses etc.
What is the addon for the character tab, anyone can help ?
Ricko Its called Shadow and Light for ElvUI
Preach I love youuuuuu I wish I could hug you
FYI: This does not important for every class.
PLLZZ !! :D
Djoun TheFirst +10 on your videos btw , great work !!:) I couldn't do anything with my rogue before I stumbled across your channel ^^
Djoun TheFirst Also this goes really well with DPS week : if you can't move effectively, you can't do any good DPS! (you'll probably be spending your time trying to get in hitting range or dead somewhere xD)
+1 on that definitely! I dont know how people do to move so effectively with there mouse... I tried, got frustrated and go back to keyboard moving ...
Ok I have scoured the forums and websites, what addon makes his character panel look like that? I love it
What addon is it to get them bars that are yellow at the bottom middle of his screen? and do they show you what cooldowns and procs u have up??
Great informative video Preach
When in shadow dance what do you do when reached 5 combo points use eviscerate or wait for anticipation to stack at max and spam 2 eviscerate?
"clappy hands man" Best name for him

***** wow thanks I didnt even consider this
Sorry if you have answerd this question before but will you do more transmog competitions??
I play a windwalker monk and my big cooldown is serinity at with a 1.5 minute cd. My other bg CD is unleash xuen at with a 3 minute cd. So I use xuen at every other serenity. How should I use the beating heart of the mountian if it has a 2 minute CD so I just miss using it for every other serenity.

SpinandWin WoW I'm aware that they don't stack. They just happen to line up and you stack them with buffs like the trinket buff I mentioned in my post.
does anyone know what addon is that when he open his character info
Jiacheng Guo I think he's just using elvUI.
jampk24 im using elvUI as well, but we have different character info addon
Jiacheng Guo It's a plugin for elvui. Not sure which, you'd have to check the website
Jiacheng Guo RedtuzkUI. Look for it on Wowinterface
James Crowther nothing there, i tried, someone said they took it down
So how long are you willing to wait for procs when shadowdance is ready to go?
is haste rtrinket best for sub rogues other then the beating heart?
What addon does he use for the character panel?
Will Hunter Its awesome. Can some1 say what is that?
Will Hunter elvui
I'm using elvui but i dont have that cool character pane
SpeedNomad1 I believe you need elvui shadow and light as well. Shadow and light is on curse just btw

sarphog preach has videos on mages. basic but it still would answer your question.
Hey Preach whats your PC specifications? Are you running WoW on max details?
Yay videos haven't seen those in a while
are all of the dps guides out for each class?
can someone say what the ui is and the bars. I really want that
what addon are u using to show your item lvl ???
looking at this as a shadowpriest - "yeah, would be nice to have cd to pop :D "
Really great vid preach
I think we will see lots of /gkicks because of some people popping their ring to pad meters and fucking over rest of the raid :P
They will be nice though with bloodlust at pull or burn phases.
Looking forward to the next batch of videos!
MacTavish The ring will most likely be used on cooldown on fights that don't need burst at specific times.
Preach how do you get your ui like that?
Is there anything like this for healers or something more complex?
The more i learn about dps the more i feel healer is the same all the time.

what is that addon for timers??
im just starting to gear up my boomkin im new to pve do i need a guild or something?

***** if you look at the VOD of the last webshow, he and ghosty talk about it
Austin Wallace Oh, I didn't know :D Thanks for the info mate ! :D
What is that addon that shows ability CDs and the procs?
YepX tellmewhen I'd suggest finding a tutorial because it can be confusing when you first get it
Class timers
ninjaman0003 I figured it out in about... 10 minutes. It's not really that hard to use, just overwhelming with the amount of options at first. Then again I am a techy type person. xD
+Akari Uchiha took me much longer, and I only have 4 things being tracked, I'm not very techy though haha
I was hoping for a payoff where he used his all cooldowns and do crazy dps on that training dummy.
That mog..
It buuuurnnnsss
But I still love ya Preach
149% multistrike *shits bricks* that's insane for just weapon proc's specially for sub

Awesome guide ily bb
Damnit Preach, you said in a Drama Time you were changing back to Undead. xD

Heh, Bollock Knives.
Your rogue looks so dope, fuck ghost's opinion

Go back to undead, ork female is a raid wide dps loss as it looks like shit and noone can concentrate on their dps and mechanics.
zellcrs cant concentrate cause dat butt be jigglin all day.
zellcrs orc rogue is so good tho!
