Stolen cards like stolen artwork or stolen antiques are also very hard to sell, especially graded cards or serial numbered cards. Word gets out fast, people have scans and pictures. A card shop near me was broken into awhile back, the guy was caught within 3 days by trying trying to sell the cards

My brothers $1200 Herbert Card was stolen at the National. It was stolen by 2 kids that were like 12. He was very disappointed and the kids sold the card for 800 within 1 hour and then that person sold it for 900 within 30 minutes then he sold it for 950 and that person sold it for 1000. We did not catch the person who sold it but we tried.

cards should never leave the frame...even sometimes people i regularly break with(who i know for a fact are legit and good people) will sometimes take a card off screen by mistake, and i wonder if anyone new seeing that would think they were not 100% legit bc of it...the Backdoor Jabronies are a different breed tho(pun intended)...no matter how much wrong they do, the jabronie army will still throw their parent's $ at them...
Do your reasearch, most of the viewers are watching on twitch where the cards are always in frame. They "sweat" the card only on the camera that is showing the card up close. Back Yard is totally legit!
The worst part is, they had me send the Redemption card in just in case they could locate the card so now I don't even have that. Thank God I took photos and videos of the entire process in case I need them
God that Tatis redemption is brutal! I bet whoever is in charge of the redemptions at Topps jumps all over cards like that. At the stroke of midnight eastern they probably snatch up all the valuable cards and either steal them for their PC or sell them. They probably throw a party when the redemption for a card like that expires. I don't know what they go for now, but last year that card was definitely worth 5 figures.
Exactiy what happens. I actually knew a Topps rep who would backdoor the cards even before the redemption expired(couple months) and if someone pulled it, it was replaced, but he would take the chance on cards not being redeemed in time.
Dealer is stupid for letting the guy leave with the cards in the first place . Police will say it is a civil matter and dealer will need to take the scammer to court. Will be hard to prove in court. Look like dealer will lose those $80k worth of cards .

I am not a huge backyard breaks fan, but can give clarity on the 'out of camera' aspect. Essentially, what it really comes down to is the fact that they are simultaneously streaming all breaks on Tiktok and Twitch at the same time - and the cameras on twitch show the full table, so they never really have anything 'off camera'. If you are EXCLUSIVELY watching on TikTok, it might look like they pull things off camera to do something, but realistically if that was the case, they would have been caught doing it from their twitch crowd. Now you might ask, well why don't they just keep everything on camera for TikTok as well? In reality, it's because on TikTok, there is only the 16:9 camera that you can use, so they have to utilize it best way they can, which means mainly close-up shots. For anyone that's sketched out, they can switch to viewing on Twitch (to where they can actually see everything), but it's just a less desirable viewing experience for some people.

Backyard breaks is by far the shadiest room out there and they have no incentive to change their ways as customers just keep coming back and ignoring the many people they have screwed over because it did not happen to them personally. They ignore all the incredibly shady stuff and pretend nothing is wrong with it. The more they keep getting away with the less likely they will ever change. In fact, the more shady stuff they do, the more they are rewarded by the room filling with new people. It is crazy how much they have gotten a pass on.

@@Migs-jn6vz Do a search for backyard breaks scams and you will get many examples. If you do not think taking cards off screen is shady than I do not know what else to tell you. They ran a promo and tried to keep the card until everyone called them out. They outright lied about what happened and acted like nothing was wrong despite thousands of people calling them out. They pulled fake items out of their own repacks and would not replace the hits for guys. Many other examples but people ignore the warning signs until it happens to them personally.

I remember ripping a ton of a product called Visions and pulling a bunch of memorabilia redemption cards. Tons of juicy stuff like Willie Mays autographed bats. Then the company filed for bankruptcy and we all got nothing.

So, I watch backyard breaks almost daily. I've bought into 3 $2500 breaks and had no issues receiving my product. As far as the issue of taking cards off screen, you only see that on tiktok. They do that to keep the suspense. They are always streaming simultaneously on Twitch where you can see everything in full view. Before you pass judgment I would suggest checking out their UA-cam page where they walk you through their entire setup from when they rip the cards to when they end up in your mailbox.

I completely agree. I have little problem with redemptions for cards they are just having a hard time getting, but making them expire is just a scam. If they aren't willing to ensure autos done before launch, then they need to ensure they are available when the redemption is sent in, anytime from the time it's pulled to the time the card company goes out of business

I recently got a 2 week expired redemption from 19-20 platinum and upper deck said they would honor for 1 year past the expiration date. It was a red prism auto of Noah dobson and I got it a week after my submission claim
Thoughts on a hit tracker / redemption tracker? Why isn't there one to track when big hit are pulled, graded, sold etc? It would also help to track products with redemptions and expiring. Am I missing this? Thank you as always
Card companies don't want that bc 1 shows how hit cards not inserted in product or can't insert due to tardiness. 2 the secondary market can increase or decrease demand in product like the major hits are gone dead product or product 5x in price due to all the majors is being available.
That would involve resources and continued upkeep of automated tech. It would be pretty awesome to know..even for the cards not numbered to see how many were redeemed.

Why hasn’t somebody filed a complaint against these companies in regards to expiration. These redemptions are basically gift cards and gift cards even if they have an expiration date, do not expire. Upper Deck and Topps should be liable to give something in return.
They aren't gift cards hahaha. Not even close to a gift card. Plus it says right on the box, packaging "time sensitive redemptions could be included" and it gives the date they expire. It's just like a government issued lottery ticket. My GF found several scratch tickets that she never scratched from a couple years prior, she buys tons of them and some time she will buy such a big stack it takes her days if not weeks to scratch them. Anyways, they had expired about 3 months previous, I told her to throw them out because I said if you win big you will kick yourself the rest of your life. She didn't listen. She decided to scratch them anyways, and won $50 bucks but they wouldn't except it. $50 bucks not a big deal, but a lesson learned.
Years ago, someone wrote a tell all book about uper Deck and in particular, Richard McWilliams. It claimed after Topps held it's amazing Archives Auction, that UD started printing and stashing their own "Archives" for "down the road", LOL, you can read it in the book!
I will tell ya! I was watching BYB on TikTok and Twitch a couple months ago when NT Football released. They were doing a break and said they were going to place a “fresh case” of NT Football in with the already massive break they had going on. The NT case was not on their table or in view. The breaker walks away to get the case and comes back with an open case. This “fresh case” was not sealed when brought on camera. The breaker then takes the hobby boxes from the open “case box”. I made a comment on the TikTok channel asking, “how do buyers know if those were from a fresh case if the case was opened off camera?” I was then immediately blocked! I will NEVER participate in a break with BYB. They lack many important qualities that breakers should possess and one of the most important is TRANSPARENCY!! You never open cases/boxes off camera! Also, I do not see that they upload or record their breaks. They will edit their breaks to show “hits” and upload a snippet of the break. I have never been able to re-watch one of their breaks! Too much shadiness going on and lack of transparency is very concerning! I don’t know why people break with them!
If this many people are getting blocked for questioning their ethics of doing stuff out of camera view it's quite obvious shady stiff is going on. The "fresh case" of NT probably already had the case hit gone. EVERYTHING has to be done on camera, nothing should ever be out of sight even for 2 seconds

People follow them like they are cult leaders and defend them even when they are doing wrong. I have participated in breaks since 2010 and I would NEVER break with them due to their lack of transparency and how they handle sports cards in general. They don't care about protecting your investment which is what breaks are, an investment. They have races to see who can open packs the quickest! Who cares about that? Protect your buyers investment!! If any other breaker business did a giveaway and opened the giveaway to a big hit and then decided that the card pulled was to expensive for a giveaway, they would have been chastised so much that they would have lost their business! You should reach out sooner than later even though your probably not going to get it, but they do have their redemption raffle program and I have seen Mcdavid and Mathews Rookie autos given out for replacements so you should still get something quality for it
Topps has always been notorious for not honoring expired redemptions no matter the amount of time passed. UD used to give a years grace period after expiration, not sure if they still do. I’ve seen Panini fill expired hockey redemps several years after expiration, though these were on the lower end.
Redemption should not be a thing. What if we told these companies we don't pay for the box until we have all the cards we are promised when we make a purchase. I have Redemptions at panini that's been ordered 4 years ago but they still have my money. smh.
According to topps they honor all redemptions up to 1 year after exp and if they have the card even longer so something tells me they sold that card as soon or b4 the exp was up
My question is why they usually put a 2 year expiration date on redemptions but there’s guys who have waited for multiple years to receive redemptions? I understand that they can’t honor it until the guy signs but what if the card isn’t signed for 3 years. Why is that redemption expired in 2 years. I know I’m not conveying this message quite right but hopefully someone understands what I am saying. I understand that the expiration date is the time frame you have to redeem the code but I don’t understand why they do that when they themselves have no idea when that card will be signed and returned and no idea when that box of cards will be opened. It’s stupid.
That Tatis rejection makes me wonder 💭. Redemption non fulfillment is designed to not deliver the desired card . Particularly in the case of low population numbered cards there should be no expiration date & held in vault to ensure it goes to the person who presents the promised redemption card . You can’t predict the behaviour of unethical employees taking advantage of this situation . History has shown many examples of manufacturers shady practices like the 89 UD Griffey Jr. Authentication companies grew out of lack of trust in the industry which didn’t eliminate BBCE ability to mislead consumers.

Well they need to specify on the box what the redemptions are and when they expire on the box instead of advertising big names that are no longer possible to pull... That's not fair to the consumer because the value of these old boxes shouldn't cost as much as they do if specific cards are no longer possible to be pulled... Since I mainly deal in hockey, I know UD does put expired redemptions into a raffle depending on what value it's at. That being said, I pulled a Sidney Crosby auto patch redemption /25 from 16-17 The Cup at the start of covid and immediately sent it in. It has been 2 years and I'm still waiting, and not holding my breath.
Legally speaking upper deck can’t do anything about the MJ Redemption because they can’t legally make NBA logoed basketball cards. They have actually been sued in a class action lawsuit about it
Upper Deck has a 2nd chance raffle and you can get some really great items from it, there are like 3 tiers for the values of expired redemptions, this Jordan would get the highest tier and you would probably still get a UD Jordan Auto memorabilia but you won't get this card as it was probably given to someone else a long time ago in a 2nd chance raffle. Topps on the other hand you just get screwed, I would be livid because they keep the expirations live for 1 year after expiration date but they don't say who gets them or where they go after that, you just get the shaft.
I think Upper Deck should try to do something for the gentleman who pulled the expired redemption. It obviously can't be that card but don't they still have exclusive rights to MJ autos, among others?
Even 20 years later a company should be forced to produce the fair market value to the person claiming the card. They should create a national storage facility where the card companies are required to send the cards to be redeemed to be kept in perpetuity until claimed.

Redemptions are bad business If the card doesn't exist in physical form it should be advertised on the package as "the following cards are redemptions:" If it goes past the expiration they should have a policy to get something as low as store credit.
Panini is not honoring any UFC redemptions, even if redeemed before their contract expiration with ufc and have been stringing people along for months. I'm waiting on 4 redemptions for over a year. Now my only option is a blaster pack of a different sport. Can we review that?
A redemption is only in packs because the company hasnt gotten the auto yet for various reasons. Thats on them, not on the buyer buying a box that has said number of autos in the box. In my opinion no redemption should expire, because again thats on the company who made the product for not having the card in time, not on a buyer who may buy or sell the box years later. Its a bigger scam making the valuable cards expire in boxes with guarenteed autos than backyard breaks swapping cards, because those conpanies are basically taking away your auto
I hit a baker mayfield immaculate rookie auto a few months after it was expired and panini sent me the card within 2 weeks. I guess topps or fanatics now is petty, and it gives a feel for what kind of business they are gonna be.

When you buy old wax more then a couple years old it's your job to find out when redeems expired and what cards were redemptions and then it's up to you to decide if it's worth opening still knowing the risks. That's what gave me the idea of hoppin on Cardboard Connections to check their old product reviews and sure enough they had lists of the redemption cards in the review. The worst part is, they had me send the Redemption card in just in case they could locate the card so now I don't even have that. Thank God I took photos and videos of the entire process in case I need them
God that Tatis redemption is brutal! I bet whoever is in charge of the redemptions at Topps jumps all over cards like that. At the stroke of midnight eastern they probably snatch up all the valuable cards and either steal them for their PC or sell them. They probably throw a party when the redemption for a card like that expires. I don't know what they go for now, but last year that card was definitely worth 5 figures.
Exactiy what happens. I actually knew a Topps rep who would backdoor the cards even before the redemption expired(couple months) and if someone pulled it, it was replaced, but he would take the chance on cards not being redeemed in time.

Dealer is stupid for letting the guy leave with the cards in the first place . Police will say it is a civil matter and dealer will need to take the scammer to court. Will be hard to prove in court. Look like dealer will lose those $80k worth of cards .

I am not a huge backyard breaks fan, but can give clarity on the 'out of camera' aspect. Essentially, what it really comes down to is the fact that they are simultaneously streaming all breaks on Tiktok and Twitch at the same time - and the cameras on twitch show the full table, so they never really have anything 'off camera'. If you are EXCLUSIVELY watching on TikTok, it might look like they pull things off camera to do something, but realistically if that was the case, they would have been caught doing it from their twitch crowd.
Now you might ask, well why don't they just keep everything on camera for TikTok as well? In reality, it's because on TikTok, there is only the 16:9 camera that you can use, so they have to utilize it best way they can, which means mainly close-up shots. For anyone that's sketched out, they can switch to viewing on Twitch (to where they can actually see everything), but it's just a less desirable viewing experience for some people.

Backyard breaks is by far the shadiest room out there and they have no incentive to change their ways as customers just keep coming back and ignoring the many people they have screwed over because it did not happen to them personally. They ignore all the incredibly shady stuff and pretend nothing is wrong with it.
The more they keep getting away with the less likely they will ever change. In fact, the more shady stuff they do, the more they are rewarded by the room filling with new people. It is crazy how much they have gotten a pass on.

@@Migs-jn6vz Do a search for backyard breaks scams and you will get many examples. If you do not think taking cards off screen is shady than I do not know what else to tell you. They ran a promo and tried to keep the card until everyone called them out. They outright lied about what happened and acted like nothing was wrong despite thousands of people calling them out. They pulled fake items out of their own repacks and would not replace the hits for guys. Many other examples but people ignore the warning signs until it happens to them personally.

I remember ripping a ton of a product called Visions and pulling a bunch of memorabilia redemption cards. Tons of juicy stuff like Willie Mays autographed bats. Then the company filed for bankruptcy and we all got nothing.

So, I watch backyard breaks almost daily. I've bought into 3 $2500 breaks and had no issues receiving my product. As far as the issue of taking cards off screen, you only see that on tiktok. They do that to keep the suspense. They are always streaming simultaneously on Twitch where you can see everything in full view. Before you pass judgment I would suggest checking out their UA-cam page where they walk you through their entire setup from when they rip the cards to when they end up in your mailbox.

I completely agree. I have little problem with redemptions for cards they are just having a hard time getting, but making them expire is just a scam. If they aren't willing to ensure autos done before launch, then they need to ensure they are available when the redemption is sent in, anytime from the time it's pulled to the time the card company goes out of business

I recently got a 2 week expired redemption from 19-20 platinum and upper deck said they would honor for 1 year past the expiration date. It was a red prism auto of Noah dobson and I got it a week after my submission claim

Thoughts on a hit tracker / redemption tracker? Why isn't there one to track when big hit are pulled, graded, sold etc? It would also help to track products with redemptions and expiring. Am I missing this?

Card companies don't want that bc 1 shows how hit cards not inserted in product or can't insert due to tardiness. 2 the secondary market can increase or decrease demand in product like the major hits are gone dead product or product 5x in price due to all the majors is being available.
That would involve resources and continued upkeep of automated tech. It would be pretty awesome to know..even for the cards not numbered to see how many were redeemed.

Why hasn’t somebody filed a complaint against these companies in regards to expiration. These redemptions are basically gift cards and gift cards even if they have an expiration date, do not expire. Upper Deck and Topps should be liable to give something in return.
They aren't gift cards hahaha. Not even close to a gift card. Plus it says right on the box, packaging "time sensitive redemptions could be included" and it gives the date they expire. It's just like a government issued lottery ticket. My GF found several scratch tickets that she never scratched from a couple years prior, she buys tons of them and some time she will buy such a big stack it takes her days if not weeks to scratch them. Anyways, they had expired about 3 months previous, I told her to throw them out because I said if you win big you will kick yourself the rest of your life. She didn't listen. She decided to scratch them anyways, and won $50 bucks but they wouldn't except it. $50 bucks not a big deal, but a lesson learned.

Years ago, someone wrote a tell all book about uper Deck and in particular, Richard McWilliams. It claimed after Topps held it's amazing Archives Auction, that UD started printing and stashing their own "Archives" for "down the road", LOL, you can read it in the book!
I will tell ya! I was watching BYB on TikTok and Twitch a couple months ago when NT Football released. They were doing a break and said they were going to place a “fresh case” of NT Football in with the already massive break they had going on. The NT case was not on their table or in view. The breaker walks away to get the case and comes back with an open case. This “fresh case” was not sealed when brought on camera. The breaker then takes the hobby boxes from the open “case box”. I made a comment on the TikTok channel asking, “how do buyers know if those were from a fresh case if the case was opened off camera?” I was then immediately blocked! I will NEVER participate in a break with BYB. They lack many important qualities that breakers should possess and one of the most important is TRANSPARENCY!! You never open cases/boxes off camera! Also, I do not see that they upload or record their breaks. They will edit their breaks to show “hits” and upload a snippet of the break. I have never been able to re-watch one of their breaks! Too much shadiness going on and lack of transparency is very concerning! I don’t know why people break with them!
If this many people are getting blocked for questioning their ethics of doing stuff out of camera view it's quite obvious shady stiff is going on. The "fresh case" of NT probably already had the case hit gone. EVERYTHING has to be done on camera, nothing should ever be out of sight even for 2 seconds

People follow them like they are cult leaders and defend them even when they are doing wrong. I have participated in breaks since 2010 and I would NEVER break with them due to their lack of transparency and how they handle sports cards in general. They don't care about protecting your investment which is what breaks are, an investment. They have races to see who can open packs the quickest! Who cares about that? Protect your buyers investment!! If any other breaker business did a giveaway and opened the giveaway to a big hit and then decided that the card pulled was to expensive for a giveaway, they would have been chastised so much that they would have lost their business! You should reach out sooner than later even though your probably not going to get it, but they do have their redemption raffle program and I have seen Mcdavid and Mathews Rookie autos given out for replacements so you should still get something quality for it

Topps has always been notorious for not honoring expired redemptions no matter the amount of time passed. UD used to give a years grace period after expiration, not sure if they still do. I’ve seen Panini fill expired hockey redemps several years after expiration, though these were on the lower end.

Redemption should not be a thing. What if we told these companies we don't pay for the box until we have all the cards we are promised when we make a purchase. I have Redemptions at panini that's been ordered 4 years ago but they still have my money. smh.
According to topps they honor all redemptions up to 1 year after exp and if they have the card even longer so something tells me they sold that card as soon or b4 the exp was up
My question is why they usually put a 2 year expiration date on redemptions but there’s guys who have waited for multiple years to receive redemptions? I understand that they can’t honor it until the guy signs but what if the card isn’t signed for 3 years. Why is that redemption expired in 2 years. I know I’m not conveying this message quite right but hopefully someone understands what I am saying. I understand that the expiration date is the time frame you have to redeem the code but I don’t understand why they do that when they themselves have no idea when that card will be signed and returned and no idea when that box of cards will be opened. It’s stupid.
That Tatis rejection makes me wonder 💭. Redemption non fulfillment is designed to not deliver the desired card . Particularly in the case of low population numbered cards there should be no expiration date & held in vault to ensure it goes to the person who presents the promised redemption card . You can’t predict the behaviour of unethical employees taking advantage of this situation . History has shown many examples of manufacturers shady practices like the 89 UD Griffey Jr. Authentication companies grew out of lack of trust in the industry which didn’t eliminate BBCE ability to mislead consumers.

Well they need to specify on the box what the redemptions are and when they expire on the box instead of advertising big names that are no longer possible to pull... That's not fair to the consumer because the value of these old boxes shouldn't cost as much as they do if specific cards are no longer possible to be pulled... They shouldn't have expired redemptions anyways... I'm sick of cards anyways...

People are always going to hate them because of a mistake they made up for in a huge way and all parties were satisfied.
Since I mainly deal in hockey, I know UD does put expired redemptions into a raffle depending on what value it's at. That being said, I pulled a Sidney Crosby auto patch redemption /25 from 16-17 The Cup at the start of covid and immediately sent it in. It has been 2 years and I'm still waiting, and not holding my breath.

Legally speaking upper deck can’t do anything about the MJ Redemption because they can’t legally make NBA logoed basketball cards. They have actually been sued in a class action lawsuit about it
Upper Deck has a 2nd chance raffle and you can get some really great items from it, there are like 3 tiers for the values of expired redemptions, this Jordan would get the highest tier and you would probably still get a UD Jordan Auto memorabilia but you won't get this card as it was probably given to someone else a long time ago in a 2nd chance raffle. Topps on the other hand you just get screwed, I would be livid because they keep the expirations live for 1 year after expiration date but they don't say who gets them or where they go after that, you just get the shaft.

Even 20 years later a company should be forced to produce the fair market value to the person claiming the card. They should create a national storage facility where the card companies are required to send the cards to be redeemed to be kept in perpetuity until claimed.

If the card doesn't exist in physical form it should be advertised on the package as "the following cards are redemptions:"
If it goes past the expiration they should have a policy to get something as low as store credit.

A redemption is only in packs because the company hasnt gotten the auto yet for various reasons. Thats on them, not on the buyer buying a box that has said number of autos in the box. In my opinion no redemption should expire, because again thats on the company who made the product for not having the card in time, not on a buyer who may buy or sell the box years later. Its a bigger scam making the valuable cards expire in boxes with guarenteed autos than backyard breaks swapping cards, because those conpanies are basically taking away your auto
I hit a baker mayfield immaculate rookie auto a few months after it was expired and panini sent me the card within 2 weeks. I guess topps or fanatics now is petty, and it gives a feel for what kind of business they are gonna be.

hell no will that Jordan be redeemed. and I believe that Cardboard Connections has lists of what redemption cards are of who in any year and series, etc. so that's all on the buyer on if they're willing to take chances on pulling something else I guess.
Yup 100%. When you buy old wax more then a couple years old it's your job to find out when redeems expired and what cards were redemptions and then it's up to you to decide if it's worth opening still knowing the risks. Back in the day there were many people who got expired Pujols bowman chrome auto RCs
@@misguidedangel6550 yea I was watching a video of Jabs and a throwback Thursday break of some Topps product and people had bought into it and he pulled an expired redemption card. That's what gave me the idea of hoppin on Cardboard Connections to check their old product reviews and sure enough they had lists of the redemption cards in the review. I think those people got took or just took a chance buying into that Jabs break. And Jabs isn't stupid. I'm pretty sure he knows about this just as much as we do.
