i can feel the pain in Mathew’s face 🥺 - rip legend! ill miss you forever - i watch friends every night to sleep - im 5 years recovering alcoholic as well! - i feel you Mathew every step of the way - i love your book i love you !
RIP Matthew Perry. I got his AudioBook narrated by Perry himself, it's shockingly truthful and so funny too about his struggles . So tragic we lost him .
I would say he was a bit reserved at first but towards the end he was starting to relax. Another two or three appearences he would have gotten into it I'd say!
He really was pretty clever. There have been so many clips of him showing up lately, from Letterman to all the Jimmys, and now this single appearance with Craig. Wasn't in the demographic to watch his shows, ever, but his movies were funny to me. And reruns of Friends are usually good for a laugh. Too soon to say but I'm very hopeful that it was a genuine accidental exit. Seems a great guy.
A little sad that no show but one after Friends he was on made it to season two. Go on the show he was the leading role at the time of the interview was amazing but still got cancelled after one season.
I think that's definitely a fair criticism of Craig. On one hand, the thing that made his show unique was that he basically treated the whole thing like his own damn party, fuck CBS and promotions and everything else, just show up and have a good time, it's after midnight and nobody's watching and it was refreshing to see a TV host be so indifferent to what he was "supposed" to be doing. But on the other hand, he steered all the conversations pretty much his own way. If HE wanted to talk about the movie/show, he would, and if not, he would just change the subject. And there are definitely interviews I can recall where Craig would actually ask them about their show, they would start to talk about it and then Craig would get sidetracked and suddenly interrupt them and they never got back to it. He could be rude at times in the name of comedy. Marc Maron had an interesting quote that made me reconsider Craig's approach a little bit. He said: *"I think it's gotten a little looser recently. Like Ferguson is the worst, or he was. He used to drive me crazy. The first couple times I did that, their pre-interview is...they ask you crazy shit! Like 'Where were you born? What was your first dog's name?' so you literally enter the thing with him not knowing what the hell you talked about with the producer or where he's even gonna come from! And you're talking like 6 minutes and I'm like 'What is he gonna do?' and generally he'll just talk right over you. You're gonna say something and he's gonna score and you're probably not gonna get a word in. It's not even an interview, you just gotta sit there and watch him spin around. It used to annoy me, and I like the guy! And it wasn't until the third or fourth time I did it where I'm like 'I'm going after him!' so it's like 'If he's gonna set that level and I gotta fight to get a word in, let's do it.' And it turned out to be the best one. It was a little weird and I kinda threw something into the works where he was like 'Ehh I dunno what to...' but it was better, it was more engaged."* As much as I love Craig, all of that makes a lot of sense from the guest's perspective. You can definitely see all of that in the first interview with Marc from 2011, Craig interrupts him a lot, and then by the 2013 interview Marc is way more aggressive about speaking up. Maron is pretty anxious/competitive person, though, but I bet he was not the only one who was frustrated by Craig, even people who may have seemed to be having a good time. But LLS was totally unique and one of my favorite TV shows ever (not just talk shows) for a lot of those same reasons so I wouldn't change a thing. But it's not beyond criticism for sure!
Marc Maron was AN IDIOT!!! The whole point of his show is to be fast and loose in order to make the whole thing more enjoyable and fun... therefore tye guest can relax and just have fun, so their personalities can really shine through and the audience gets to actually experience the real them. For people who are very introverted it really really worked well. Just look at say Steven Wright and all if hus appearances. An admitted introvert who would go into interviews and be kind of hard to get talking and when you did he would just do his comedy one liners without actually letting the audience see the real him, the relaxed 'natural' self! But on Craig's show, because he has a comedic mind and because of the style layout and type of show it was it was perfect for him, he actually enjoyed talking (for an introvert this is a big deal) and he ended up coming back over and over and over again. You see Steve Wright "got it"... he very quickly understood the show. Marc didn't "get it"... because he's a humourless TW@ with a personal agenda!!! The problem with Maron is he went into the show with an agenda and a desperate desire for things to go his own way(control freak) but he didn't actually comprehend the show and what it's supposed to be. The fact that it took him 3 tries to actually get his personal agenda done is nothing but a compliment as the show is _meant_ to be the exact opposite. As in fun and fancy free not *I must promote my bullshit and say xyz* like a f_cking robot with no sense of humour!!! So no... your critique is nothing but a reflection of your own stupidity! But thanks for trying, try again next time!
The description of this video is insane. Dude your entire channel is dedicated to Craig's show. How can you of all people, manage to miss the whole point of his show so completely? Craig's show was a subversion of the traditional talkshow format, as symbolized by craig literally tearing his cue cards to pieces everytime an interview starts. So Craig's mission is to do the opposite of what most talkshow hosts would do. The fact that Craig refuses to allow his guests to plug their projects is QUINTESSENTIAL craig. This is Craig 101 dude. This is how the man operates. He created this show FOR THIS VERY REASON - to subvert, subvert, subvert. And you're complaining about it in the video description?!
@@Matthew075 Fumes, strong chemicals. Markers, white out, sprays. People get high off of that stuff. And they go to harder stuff. I should know. I lost my 25-year-old cousin to a heroin overdose and he started sniffing on household products.
I didn't read all the written commentary, but I have to comment on the one I saw about the cunning linguist. Although the definition written was correct, it's funny more because is sounds like cunnilingus, which doesn't hint to oral sex, but is oral sex performed on a woman. That's where the humor is in using that term.
"Cunning linguist" is a play on the word "cunnilingus" which is oral sex performed on a female. It's an old, old joke. So while the editorial note was correct that it's an allusion to oral sex, the explanation of the allusion was wrong.

I miss Chandler! Ican't believe he only appeared on the show only one time!

Seems like perry could be a really good improv comic
He wrote lots of jokes for friends, even on his interviews you can see he is naturally funny
thank you so much for uploading old Clips!
U're welcome pal!:D
Hard to believe it was his only appearance. They bounce off each other.
