Yes, absolutely. This is the kind of plot that would never have worked if they didn't put the effort in with the characters. Both she and Dean do terrible things, but they both grow and learn so much that you forgive them.

Kurt Russell (March 17, 1951) and Goldie Hawn (November 21, 1945) have been a real life love couple (not married) since 1983. He started out as a child actor on television since he was 12, making his on screen debut in an Elvis Presley movie called "It Happened At the World's Fair" in which he got to kick Elvis in the shins twice. Later, as a teenager, he acted in many Disney movies. He worked both on the big screen as on television. In 1979, 2 years after Elvis Presley passed away, Russell even played Elvis in a made for TV movie called "Elvis".
Other movies of his are The Thing, Tango&Cash (with Sylvester Stallone), Tombstone, Forest Gump (uncredited as the voice of Elvis Presley).
Goldie Hawn started her career dancing and performing on stage before getting on the television show "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" in which she was one of the regulars. Hawn often broke out into high-pitched giggles in the middle of a joke, then delivered a polished performance a moment after. That is what she became famous for and what landed her her first roles in big screen movies. She often played a bubbly, "dumb", blonde in the early years.
Hawn and Russell first met while filming The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band in 1966, but obviously nothing happened yet between 15-year-old Russell and 21-year-old Hawn until much later. Hawn later developed into a big name, not just acting but also producing movies. She became a big box office hit with several of her movies like Private Benjamin, Overboard (with Kurt), Bird on a Wire (with Mel Gibson), Death Becomes Her (with Bruce Willis and Meryl Streep), The First Wives Club (with Bette Midler and Diane Keaton).
Hawn was married twice. From her 2nd marriage she had 2 children, son Oliver (born September 7, 1976) and daughter Kate (born April 19, 1979), both actors as adults as well. Russell was married once from which marriage he has a son, Boston, (born February 16, 1980). Hawn and Russell became an item after filming Swing Shift in 1983 and together have a son Wyatt Russell (born July 10, 1986). Though they never married, they have been together since 1983 and with all their offspring, form the perfect, blended, family.

OMG, I feel like I'm the only one that loves (or has even heard of) Butterflies Are Free. It's one of my favorite. I've seen it many times. Goldie is fantastic in it.
Watch the reruns of Rowan and Marin's Laugh In in the first 2 years 1968 and 1969, clips of Goldie Hawn playing the dumb blonde so perfectly...yet she could do other comedy skits with a compeltely different character, , and dance and sing. You knew she was going to be major star, it's takes an extermely talented actress to pull off so many different characters, she was no one trick pony, and her laughter was so infectous..she could turn the tables on Dan Rowan, say something and make him laugh where he had to regain his composure during the "News" segments.

I am so happy you reacted to this. This movie has been apart of my family's favorite collection as long as I can remember. It came out two years before I was born, and I am my parent's youngest and only child (and only girl) together. Before me, it was my mom helping my dad raise his 3 out of control boys so it's always been a special movie for us that we all really enjoy.

Goldie Hawn was "discovered" dancing in the chorus line of a 1967 Andy Griffith TV special. An agent singled her out, signed her and got her cast in a supporting role on a sitcom, "Good Morning, World" (CBS, 1967-68). she was then cast on Laugh In sttaing mid season of a "half season" in the first half of 1968 on Rowan and Martin's Laugh In [which ran from 1968-73]. She was hilarious on that show, her laughter and comedy skit participation infectuous. Soon she was doing TV guest spots on varety shows [like Dean Martin] and movies, and had to leave the Laugh In show, her first major movie was Cactus Flower [1969] in which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, and in 1980 was nominated for Best Actress for Private Benjamin. She was VERY adept at comedy, she started producing many of her movies [10 of them] in 1980, and became quite rich from that as well. Some of her best earlier to mid career movies were Shampoo, Foul Play, Cactus Flower, Private Benjamin, The Dutchess and Dirtwater Fox, Overboard, Swingshift, Seem Like Old Times, Wildcats, Bird on a Wire. I especially liked Foul Play, Private Benjamin, Swingshift and Overboard myself...

He's done comedies like "Big Trouble In Little China" to more serious roles as in "The Thing" and "Tombstone." More recently, I saw him in "Bone Tomahawk," an excellent horror/western.

Such a fun film. It was the brainchild of universally respected actor and photographer, Roddy McDowell who appears as Goldie's butler, Andrew. He wanted to a film that echoed the Screwball comedies of the 1930's and 40's. real life couple Kurt and Goldie were the obvious choices.
Such good rom-com. Goldie Hawn was really good as rich obnoxious lady. I always love to see Kurt and Goldie together. Their own screen presence and chemistry is so strong.

Thanks for watching this iconic romcom! There was a gender swap remake in 2018 which was good but can never beat the classic. Kurt and Goldie are such a power couple that I highly recommend these films. For Goldie: The First Wives Club, The Out-of-Towners, and Death Becomes Her. For Kurt Russell: Follow Me, Boys!, The Fox and the Hound, Big Trouble in Little China, Backdraft, Sky High, Dreamer, etc.
