Hello Lucia. I believe that little nub on the bottom of the ring band is a stabilizer. It's supposed to help keep the ring from spinning around your finger.

Happy New Year Lady Lucia. The opal ring may be artisan made and it looks like a piece of the "sprue" was left on the ring shank. A sprue is used to hold the ring shank in place for the molten metal pour.
