20:45 If you're talking about the green slimy stuff, it looks like an algal bloom. Basically a big old bunch of algae, growing very quickly. It's usually caused by excess nutrients in the water. The algae (and there are lots of different kinds, just like there's lots of different kinds of grass) have so many nutrients to snack on they grow faster than the environment can handle, making the big floating masses of them and coating things like rocks in a slippery layer. Usually, the nutrients that cause algal blooms come from man-made fertilizers. The fertilizers are used on farms, then the rain or groundwater carries it into the nearest waterway. The mat of algae causes shade, which can kill the plant life that are unfortunately enough to be underneath it. No plants means no food for small organisms, no small organisms means no food for larger organisms and so on until you have a freshwater wasteland underneath layer of algae.. In addition to all that, some algae that form blooms are toxic in and of themselves. If you see an algal bloom, don't swim in the water, don't drink the water, and don't let your pets/farm animals swim in or drink the water!

I enjoy the interaction between you and your Mom. I think it’s great that you’re able to do this with each other. On the subject of fire ants they are in my province of Ontario. I’m about ten minutes away from Lake Ontario and the fire ants are in wooded areas, not really in our personal gardens unless you back onto a park with lots of trees. I’ve had other little things bite me while gardening, but so far, I haven’t been bitten by a fire ant. Keep the videos coming, they are really interesting. 😎🇨🇦😎

Algae grow by photosynthesis. For this they need sunlight and nutrients, such as phosphorus and nitrogen. An overabundance of nutrients usually leads to excessive algal growth.

Helloooo you two! I’m enjoying it when you focus on nature and wildflowers also the raw footage you post. I think if you were to edit out all the little mishaps, it’d be kind of boring or less interesting. I certainly hope neither one of you landed on her tush! 😂 Take care….👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

I think they are called fire ants because if you have a few bits on your foot or hand, they feel like they are on fire. I lived in Lubbock from 1971-1980 and there were no fire ants there at the time. Then I moved to Houston and quickly got familiar with fire ants.
They are more specifically imported fire ants because they came on a ship that docked in Mobile, AL in the 1930s from South America. They didn’t expect them to spread very far north, but they are much more adaptable than expected.
If you live in a flood prone area like Houston, you find out in a flood, the entire mound will form this swarming ball of ants that floats on the water. Something else to worry about in a flood.
They are known to swarm cattle and can kill them by blocking their nostrils. Nasty little buggers.
