I had a thought when you spoke about the grating. Rather than a triangular shape, how well do you think a "star-shaped" one would work? Lots of little nooks to try to fill up for the beavers, and lots of surface area for water to enter through.
Because of watching your videos, I was not only able to unplug a culvert and redo the drainage ditch on a property; I was also able to tell the property owner what the issue was with the culvert and how to prevent a recurrence. I also knew not to remove the debris from the bottom edge of the culvert since the drainage ditch has been blocked for 30 years and the water would undermine the culvert. I was able to do the whole job properly thanks to you. I appreciate it! 😊
No matter how many of these I watch, it's always surprising and fascinating/satisfying how much the flow rate increases after you unclog the culvert of the day
I recently learned that the orange staining on the outside of the beavers teeth is a type of iron which reinforces the teeth making them more durable. It only deposits on the outside of the tooth so the inside wears down faster creating a slicing edge perfect for chewing away at wood! Nature is amazing!
Like other rodents, the teeth are also continually growing, so they *need* to chew on wood to wear it down. It can actually injure or even kill the beaver if they don't. This is why you'll see chew marks at beaver height on anything wooden beside an active beaver pond, even if it doesn't otherwise make sense for the beaver to chew on it (which is the same for many other rodents too).
Re: the posted notice: Clipper is an aquatic herbicide (not a pesticide). it is used by several states to control invasive water-living plants considered weeds. Hey Post10, haven’t caught your vids for a few months now. You have quite a following here in Australia. Not sure why that is, but one way or another we regard you as an honorary Aussie. You sound really happy, animated and relaxed. Hope things are going well and keep up the good work.
Always impressed with the amount of knowledge of ecology, forestry, hydrology and water flow dynamics this guy can teach us. Should be required learned for forestry, public works and workers with government agencies dealing with the environment and natural resources.
I watch post 10 every day and i can tell u now i live in Australia and would catch a flight over seas just to spend an hour with this guy. What an day it would be hanging out with a great bloke who can teach u the world. Thanks for a great adventure post and keep safe mate. U don't know me but u have a friend for life here in Australia bud. God bless mate.
I love how excited he was when he saw the beavers were back. You could hear it in his voice. Especially when he said, "Time to unleash a lot of water!". I'm excited for his excitement!
While you’re excited to lose many feet of water, I’m excited to lose many hours of the day just watching your vlogs. It’s surprisingly addictive. You make dirty water so interesting 🤔😊 keep doing what you do best whilst keeping us all entertained.
Such a motivated young man as the air bubbles out of his boots and the water runs in he goes on in to do a community service for all of us Keep up the great work May God bless you for doing this
That’s a serious surge of water! PS - if I hear water running in my house I can’t sleep until I find and close the cause. Can you imagine the beaver friend slumbering in his beaver hut when it hears running water? You probably got a great big “Eek” out of the beaver.
You, Sir, are a valuable asset to your community and they would be in trouble without you. I'm sure the beavers don't agree with me lol. Love your videos!
What a lovely sound of flowing water. That was a quick one Postie. Haha, more squishy boots. We will see if the there are any beavers and how long until they clog it up again. You guys take care.
You are the one person on UA-cam that I never fell to watch your new videos. It’s so relaxing and just makes me so proud to see a young fella like you self out doing good things. My favorite expression you have is “massive fart“ 😂
Dude if I wasn't 65 years old and probably 2,000 miles from you, I'd love to join in the fun ! I've taken my kids a few times on an overflow side slough of the Columbia River. Ran for 20 miles in Northern Portland Oregon, kids and I have been on 2 trips in our canoe and scariest part was when we saw 2 young beavers who swam towards us. Mama in front of them and 20 feet from us slapped her tail hard and I knew that was her get lost warning !
Haha, good thing Ghostie was posted on the outflow camera! Anyway, I saw a video recently showing a beaver actually gnawing on wood, and I was a little surprised because most of the work of biting is done by the lower jaw, and the bottom teeth are even bigger and scarier than the upper teeth. The amount of wood those little fuzz chompers can gouge out all at once is kinda sobering--you definitely would NOT want to get one of those stuck to your leg, because you would not be dealing merely with a set of puncture wounds, rather you'd have a huge chunk of flesh carved offa yas. If you used the Theme from Jaws music on your beaver chase video, you wouldn't be far off. :)
I believe you like the beavers. I think you provide an interesting and educational perspective. I appreciate Post 10. I'm a grandmother in Southern California and would never experience any thing period without your videos. 💖expeditions.
