New versions of products can be released today faster than your receipt is printed. One common question is “If or when should I upgrade”? The answer often depends on what you perceive is the value of making that change. Since this can vary from one person to the next, we should be careful not to get caught up in the sales and marketing blitz of buying upgraded gear that doesn’t really make a difference for us. Most of us simply can’t afford that. I wanted to share this information with anyone looking to save some cash on a Katana first-generation to MKII upgrade.
Have had a MK1 for about four yrs. Never getting rid of it. Got a Pod go about 6 month's ago, and that's what I mostly use now, but if anything, the MK1 makes a great backup.
Great review, Powercoat. Thorough and objective. So often these "old vs. new" reviews are an attempt by the owner to rationalize that their older, out of production and unavailable product is better than the newer one that you're stuck with. I have the 100 MkII 1x12, but would certainly keep the MkI if I had one. More "bells and whistles" says it exactly, but neither is better than the other, just a little different. Next year, there'll likely be a MkIII, then a MkIV and so on. Nice work, Powercoat.
I tried to be reasonable about upgrading because it’s weighed heavy on my mind for quite a while. Just glad I was able to present something worth a listen. Thanks so much for watching and sharing, and wishing you the very best. 👍🏿
I bought my 100 MK1head and then 3 months later, they released the MKII, I felt the same way. I bought my new MKI 100 head for $350, I had it for 2.5 years. I sold it for $250, so I upgraded to a MKII 100 head for $359. Not bad, only around $50 a year to use.
The 1st GENs are great sounding amps and I love mine too. Boss is going to have to do a lot more than an MKII to get me to give this one up. Thanks for watching and sharing! 👍🏿
