That's not shipping damage... that's the relic'd version! They probably sent that by mistake and will contact you for an extra ton of money for that! I hear they get a real samurai to chop a slice out of it with a katana .... anyway - great demo of all the features

I believe the acoustic setting is for using the amp with an acoustic guitar and not as an acoustic sim.
You handed the damage very well, but we all saw the pain in your eyes. We get it buddy. We've all dealt with shipping.
GOD, what a great sounding amp. It’s crazy how far modeling has come, especially in the budget oriented market. My first amp was a 30 watt first-gen Vox Valvetronix, and it was nowhere near as awesome as this amp.
Yes, I had the Vox too and it wasn‘t really good. I also have a Mustang 3 V2, but he is much to complicated for me. I‘m still looking for a really good modeller. I don‘t believe, that this one still will do the job for me. Maybe a Fender Tonemaster, but they are very expensive! So for now I have a Fender HRD IV at home that I can only run at very little volume. Nothing is perfect. Ideally I would like to have a simple, cheap really good sounding amp with headphone possibility and Line in for a player. Not possible??? 🤔

get the fender champion 100 2x12 its not hard as you think it's the same price as the boss katana 100watt
Nice, I saw a couple videos last night on it and was hoping Boss sent one out to you. I guess the UK and European youtubers get a bit of an advantage on releasing new hush hush stuff because of the time difference. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more about it from you. And it's always cool when you and Steve talk about things on the podcast that sometimes aren't mentioned in the demos/videos. Not that your demos aren't thorough, just those little nuanced kind of details that come out when you talk to a good friend. Thank you for all the great content!
I’m so thankful that I bought my 100 head 2 weeks before the MK2s came out! The 30 day warranty was still in effect, and I couldn’t return it fast enough.....now I’m just waiting for my MK2 100 head to come off of back order from Sweetwater!
I went with the 100w head too. I refuse to play inferior speakers. Mine with be going through my Marshall 1960 cab.

The brilliant guy's at Ken's Stantan Music in Georgia sent my Boss Katana MKII 100 watt 2x12" inside an exterior box ala amazon like, box inside a box. Made it all the way to Louisiana unharmed.

Waiting on my MKII Artist and came across this video. My favorite Katana video so far by a mile! I love how you just screwed around with sounds and controls like a normal guy and left out the endless amounts of techno-babble and unfair comparisons that are 95% of Katana vids. And I could easily see the enjoyment on your face as well. Really made me feel much more secure and confident in my purchase. Great job sir!

Everything dialed at noon and already sounds good. Says a lot.
I've got the 100w 2 x 12" although I just got it last month I'm not seeing a lot that's making me want to kick myself. The variations just sound like a treble and pesence boost to make it sound a bit more Fender like and using the Floorboard editor can get access to five effects at once if I ever needed them - not likely. I do love how it can go from totally clean to full shred on the lead and brown channels using only the guitar volume! I don't think anyone has shown this except on my video ;0)
What do you expect with a speak speaker, son?
As soon as I saw that damage I would have returned it because if something goes wrong with the amp later they will blame it on you for rough handling
I would return it, I'm not paying new for crap and AMS and zZounds are notorious for trying to pawn off returned crap on their customers at a new price!
Man I just got the MK 1 a few months ago.... This fixes every small problem I have with the MK 1 :(
I just received my mk2 212 today and hot damn is it an amazing amp. And for $500? A steal.
I used to be a tube only guy but after experiencing Roland’s modeling tech on their Cube series, I switched and never looked back. The Katana is like a Cube on steroids. And the 2x12’s deliver a decent amount of the thump I love.
I bought 2 of these. Using the stereo expand with an ocd and a moller 2 in front. I’m getting incredible sounds. Sold my helix lt and powercab. Getting way better sounds now just the twist of a few knobs. And i have €700 left over from the deal to buy more goodies.

I had a mk1 100 and I really liked the tone but the dials on the top drove me nuts. I sold it to get the Katana Artist version because the dials are on the front of the Artist. I still haven’t made the purchase because I can’t decide on the Artist mk1 or mk2. Hey Ryan, great channel. Keep it going.
I just bought the same model yesterday but I don't have a clue how to work with the software. Could you do a tutorial on how to install and work with the boss software?
I have been playing over 30 years in bands etc. I finally ended up playing through a 64 Princeton hand wire, and a Blackstar 20 MKII (versatile amp btw) so yes I’m an admitted tube snob, UNTIL on day last week shopping for another pedal, ya know the rabbit hole in which you never return, and you dump loads of money into, yep that one, anyway I played the Katana 100 MKII and I was really impressed, then I looked at the price (btw the price went up yesterday) and I was kicking myself in the teeth!!!!
I bought this amp two days ago as a backup, but now I’m not so sure I’m gonna headline with it. BOSS has just blown it out of the water guys and gals. Every guitar from Strat to Tele, Les Paul sound fantastic through this amp. It has all the versatility I need (country to rock) and I can do acoustic shows!!
Bottom line , you need one of these in your arsenal ….stop the pedal madness …just buy one of these things and wonder why you spent all that money chasing the tone dragon.
These amps are cheap…in price only. They are built like a brick SH:t house!!!

Surprisingly it seems like these things are very nice to pedals as well, adding yet another layer of value and versatility.
@@syntheticsleep they are. So recently I ran my pedal chain through the CLEAN channel of the amp, sounded perfect, then I switched to different channels, yes it take pedal without any issue at all .
I’ll say this, if you are a new guitar player or an old one, you should have this amp in you’re arsenal.
1. Cheap amp but sounds great 2. Built like a brick 3. Doesn’t sound solid state 3. Hell solid state amps sound great these days due to technology
4. If the amp gets stolen, Someone shoots it etc etc etc take it home put a sheet over it, call it a coffee table, go get another one , they are completely affordable, a buddy of mine just bought the 100 watt for 250 cash off of FB , where in the hell are you going to find an amp like this at that price?
4. Plug and play. Seriously, I have mine, and it’s very simple, where I go to the stage, the stage guy does the rest, I just plug and play, then go home.
Well I get paid.
Anyway, yes it’s a great pedal platform amp. !

I have the mark 1 and as awesome as it is the mark 2 is a definite step up. I need another for my studio so off I go to grab one. Is there an Artist version on offer? It may be worth waiting for that if one is planned.
Would it be possible for you to do a comparison between an actual Boss pedal and the fx on the amp? It'd be interesting to see just how close to the pedal the amp can sound.

Let Boss sent you a second one the audience deserves to see a review of the stereo expander ;-) As for the sloopy postal service. DHL left my package form the 42GS=ne auction in the pouring rain. The REVV G2 survied, though.

I will check it out on my 68 Princeton this weekend,. I just tested it it with my quiet, family, friendly setting an a modeler, so far.
@@60CycleHumcast The G2 sounds a bit sterile to me, it`s ok as it should be a representation of the green channel of a REVV metal amp. Humbuckers don`t get muddy with the G2. But I like the tone of my Blues Driver, the Maxon 808 and the OCD better. Well, at least the animal shelter got some money ;-)

Excellent video man! I’m really on the fence as to whether to get the 100w 1x12 combo or just get the 100w head since I have a mini-jubilee with matching 1/2-stack cab with the most amazing 2x12 G12 V speakers in it. I love the gig-ability of the combo but would definitely wanna bypass the emulated cabs from the line-out so I can hear it out of super high-end speakers. Does the combo have that capability?
Get on the BOSS wesite and download the Manual. It is Free. I was torn between the Head and 2x12 combo I chose the combo just so I can play it at the old folk home.
I just purchased the 100W head so i can use with different cabs as not usually a fan of combo speakers, and as far as portability if im really stuck I can always have a warm up or practice through the 5 inch, 30W built in speaker... I plan on running it through my Egnater 2X12 most of the time however.
Hot Katana Tip: If sometimes you don't feel like using the USB out (which is actually pretty good as you can record fx in stereo), if you turn the stereo expander on it kills the baked in cab sim on the line out and you can run it into your interface like a regular raw DI from the head and use whatever IRs you like if you are recording or whatever.

Ryan, love you reviews. With the mk 2 can you change the effects order? I would love to be able to put trem (mod/fx) after the reverb. Thats the only thing I would like to be able to do with my ktn50. Can't wait to see what you do with this thing.

You can set any effect order on mk1 with fxfloorboard software.
They still haven't done the one thing that I think would really push the katanas over the top. I wish they would some how make some kind of illuminated light around the controls bass, middle, treble volume ECT. That way when you switch channels it would light up in the spot that you set even if the knobs were changed for other channels. For people like me that forget my settings. I hope all of this made sense. Basically a reference point of how a channel was set before you made adjustments on another channel for when you wanna tweak something a little instead of jumping from one extreme to another you could turn the knobs back to the position that was saved and adjust from there. Like once you saved your settings into the memory there would be a light indicator always saved until you adjust further and resave and the light would then change to that spot. I know slot of people don't like slot of bright lights and all but I think that would be a huge improvement even if it pushed the amp price up a bit more! I would like to hear what others think about this idea
I agree. I’m surprised it wasn’t put on as there are lights to say which channel you’re on.
I think the majority support the more simplistic approach but that would be helpful and hardly over-complicates the amp.

They need to update the air separating out the booster menu on the app and a simple PRE or POST button to put it before or after modulations like wah then to me perfect amp don't use any other amp

What's the bit rate on the effects?
The one thing I wish is that they put the controls on the front of the amp like they did finally with the boss katana artist which I also hope is getting refreshed. I don't know why top mounted controls are still a thing so clunky so difficult to see.

Visually I like the top mounted on the Katana... But in practice, yes, front mounted please. My Orange CR60c had top mounted, and it's a pain to mess with because I keep the amp angled up towards me.
Supposedly someone found code mentioning the artist mk2 in the regular mk2 software.. there’s a rumor it will be announced in January

@@metalliholic I like it a lot actually, though with the price of the 100 being not that much more I think it's of a better value overall. Especially with the ability to switch between wattages, but also the ease of setting up a true stereo rig.
Honestly, I would have loved to start out with either of these amps growing up, this is really everything a budding guitarist could need in an amp!

Some glue and clamps and that will buff right out.
Since you probably didn't buy the amp gluing and clamping might be alright, personally I would complain big time till they got it right.

Since you blew up the last one maybe you could use the wood side panel from that one, just swap it or maybe the whole cab itself.
boss wants to send me a replacement, they have my address so theres not much i can do to stop them, lol. Maybe ill do a stereo video and then give away the other one, unless they want me to send it back. im just happy to have a working katana again. Also the box is fiberboard, it would be pretty tough to take a side off and re attach it to another amp.

i haven't tried yet. i'm sure theres still bugs to work out this close to launch date.
60 Cycle Hum I got around to it a few minutes ago and it was relatively easy. Some words like “destroy” were used in their directions, which is off-putting, but overall I’m very pleased with the updated interface now that I can access it. Much smoother!

I like the amp but the only thing I don't like about this amp is it doesn't have a cover at the back of this amp
Looks likes it is just everything repackaged. First, the variation button is the same thing as cabinet resonance, in which on the Artist there are three variations on the panel. Second, if you know what you are doing, you can use booster, mod/fx, delay and reverb all at once on the Artist and other earlier Boss Katanas. You really are going overboard if you want all 5 at the same time. Good review though.
The 100 watt mkii also has the 3 position resonance switch.
Do you perceive any tonal differences between this and the version before?

60 Cycle Hum thanks for the reference. I literally just bought one of the old ones a few weeks before this came out. I do like the added functionality. I do find unfortunate that there isn’t a way to share a patch coming from the new one to the old one.

Mr. Connors , how do you know about the release date of the new BlackStar ID Core? I would wait before buying this Katana. I actually prefer Blackstar from what I heard on UA-cam.

Where is this information? Half of the comments that say this say ‘Boss says to crank the MASTER and turn down the CHANNEL volume.’ The other half say that Boss say to do the opposite.

Hi there is The Boss katana MKII 100 a lot lot louder than the boss katana 50 MKII
Id say the 100 gives you more eq headroom, the 50 is pretty damn loud (keeps up with a drummer just fine). there are diminishing returns with wattage and volume, if you are looking for 'as loud as possible' you need to start looking at more speakers because then you are moving more air.
I heard the head has a built in speaker. Will it blow up without a cab?
it shouldnt, the speaker in the head actually moves quite a bit of air, i honestly wouldnt mind having a head instead of a combo.
@@60CycleHumcast I'm seriously considering buying the head and cab. That way I can store the cab in my closet, and take it out when there's a gig. Then I have a small head with either my headphones or the speaker right on my desk!

@@yepyepyep8859 The Cube is unbeatable in the Clean Sound as well as the Roland Jazz Chorus ... I also have the Fender Champion 40..but he does not get in the clean sound to the cube. In addition, the cube can be set much faster as the Kantana in terms of effects without having to search through sound banks. since the cube is no longer produced I will buy a second second hand.

@@yepyepyep8859 i have the Cube 40XL..and i look for second hand for a cube 8oXL..40 watts for low and middle gigs and 80 watts for high gigs..wenn you looks for clean sounds look also for the Roland Jazz Chorus..a fantastic clean sound amp with reverb chorus vibrato and distortion....this amps are stero amps with two speakers...verry verry good,

the last 100 could be ordered with 1 12 or 2 12's. This new model is exactly the same, he got the 1x12 but there is a 2x12 also available for more money.
Nope. I'd be contacting the vendor so they can file an insurance claim with the carrier and have them send me another. You are entitled to a pristine product and if you don't hold the corporate feet to the fire they'll feel like they can get away with crap like that. I once had a similar situation but with a different product and the vendor used the pictures to file their insurance claim and not only did they send me a new one but they declined to have me send the damaged one back. I ended up with two of them.

Some guy on another channel said for clean go to the crunch channel and turn the drive knob way down. Or try the acoustic channel. Idunno. When I get one Im going to try a Scumnico speaker $259. The Stock Speaker apparently is BOSS made, in the likeness of a Celestion V30
