I worked at the Wentletrap restaurant at 23rd and Strand from 1979-1986. I poured champagne at a ball and announcement for the Tremont. It was a gutted building, the attendees were dressed in ball gowns and tuxedos walking though the rubble and admiring the artist's rendition of what the hotel was going to look like. I had the privilege of staying in one of the rooms during a hurricane. The staff at Wentletrap worked with Tremont when it first opened. The Bar at Wentletrap was a fabulous piece of work as well. Fun times. George and Cynthia were very kind.

My husband and I were both born on Galveston Island and grew up there. I would love to hear these stories from historians born in Galveston.

I read the Toujouse couple bought the home of Fredrick W. Beissner on Ave. H about 1913. What became of that home's furnishings? Perhaps that painting was with those items? Always a wonderful guest and story. Thank you.

Grant was the biggest celebrity? I think not. Maybe that day but Sam Houston beats him out. More people recognize Houston world wide than Grant and remember his name was first word heard from the moon!
