- Trams are tops presents shots of trams in South London.
Coydon's Tramlink is operated with a total of 30 splendid lime green and blue trams.. The original fleet comprised 24 articulated low floor Flexity Swift CR4000 trams built by Bombardier Transportation in Vienna. The trams are numbered beginning at 2530, continuing from the highest-numbered tram 2529 on London's former tram network, which closed in 1952. In 2006, the CR4000 fleet was refurbished, including a repaint into a new green livery.
On 18 August 2011 TfL announced that Stadler Rail had won a £16 million contract to supply six Variobahn trams .They started service in spring 2012, and are seen in this film.
As an Austrian national, I am very proud to see these Vienna-built trains in Croydon.
Thomas Farmer Bims in London!
Those Variobahn trams look exactly like the Bybanen trams here in my city of Bergen, Norway. Our trams started operating July 22nd 2010 and have proven to be a huge success. Kind of weird to see the type of tram I take every day to school, only in different colours but otherwise identical lol. Nice video!
All trams look the same, because most of them are built in the same place, or at least to the same design. If you want to see trams that look different, see Melbourne, some of their trams are unlike most in the world... yet at the same time they have some just like these.
"Mummy, what's that ... that looks like strawberry jam?"
"Hush dear, that's just your father, run over by a tram."
You are NOT funny!
I thought Trams were gone in London long time before i was born in 90s and never new they had the tramways back in London until a new member joined our Ferrymead Tramway (One of the few remaining tramways in New Zealand) who is from England and worked at Crich Tramway Museum. I have heard lots of stories about trams back in London! I must visit there soon in the future before they get rid of them again. GREAT VIDEO
Excellant video the croydon trams are nice and croydon looks a nice place to
how trams have evolved over the years of course Blackpool was only public tramway i system UK between 1963? to 1991 by the 90s Blackpool wasn't the only tramway in Britain, it is great to see that more trams are returning
What a nice video :)
Loved the trams, loved the location.
The music was nice and soothing.
However the door close tone is annoying.
I hope the UK gets more trams
We need more "Electric Rail Tram's" in Greater London for London Tramlink for public transport's.
Nottingham, Birmingham, london, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Manchester. Yes we still need more
love that colour!
so green !!!!!
Quote: "In 2006, the CR4000 fleet was refurbished, including a repaint into a new green livery."
Not exactly a "repaint". The original red and white paint-job is still there - under stick-on vinyls (you can sometimes see bits of it when there's any body damage).
In 2006 trams were taken out of operation (one at a time) over consecutive weekends. The workshop was declared 'out-of-bounds' to all operating staff (and others deemed 'non essential) and an external firm came in to stick on the vinyls.
Note: The smell was absolutely appalling.
london needs more trams, they're quieter, far more pleasant, make the place look more civilized than busses, i'm pretty sure the reduced rolling resistance of metal wheels on tracks means they're more energy efficient too right?
Not too sure about the energy efficiency, but when carrying more passengers, they use the same amount of energy as if they weren't. If you ever get a system like Melbourne, that'll be nice. Trams are coming back into fashion these days and I hope more cities get them :D
They cost a fortune though (approx. 10x more than buses) and require more maintenance (buses don't rely on tracks). That's why they're less appealing to TFL, who have postponed and cancelled several extension proposals.
Buses may be cheaper, but there is something about trams that makes them more popular. When you see a tram line in the middle of the street you feel like you have to catch a tram there.
BEAUTIFUL MUSIC AND BIRDS TOO!!!
like the music
