    A private astronaut crew flying a commercial spacecraft designed and built by a private company, flew to a higher orbit than any spacecraft from any superpower other than the US has ever gone (~2x higher than the USSR, Russia or China, and Apollo only passed briefly there on its way to the moon), and then conducted an EVA with a commercial spacesuit that only superpowers have ever being able to do.
    An experimental spaceflight mission that will "give us critical insights to help NASA plan for deeper space travel to the moon and Mars", more than what the 50 year old technically and scientifically primitive Apollo and Gemini missions could provide. And that was just the first step towards Spacex developing their own private astronaut core, mastering the capabilities and experience that will help expand humanity to Space.

      This! The amount of mind bending achievements accomplished by musk and his teams at spaceX is epic and absolutely the most exciting thing that happened to humanity since the first lunar flights.
      This is bottled hope. Everything we can gain from that is infinite. If only we could all work together towards those goal. We could finally stop being scared of our future on earth and take it into our hands, have men in other places in our solar system in a not so distant future and gather resources from space.
      Musk physically materializes dreams from thin air. I’m a software engineer would give everything to work for this man

      The difference is monumental. It's like comparing the first model T car to a Bugatti Veyron. This was achieved in a 10th of the time, with a tenth of the budget by civilians and is merely a test for much further exploration than the moon landing.

    • @jerryg.5923
      @jerryg.5923 7 годин тому

      But is wasn't the first try. There were 9 years of research and leading up to that one landing in 1969, we even lost a crew of three in a launch pad fire. Aldrin and Armstrong came within seconds of crashing into the moon due to excessive fuel use on the ascent. Also Apollo 10 descended to within 7 miles of the lunar surface as planned before it returned to lunar orbit. Armstrong trained for months piloting the LM simulator back on Earth and in one case even had to eject from it probably less than 100 feet from the ground because it became uncontrollable. We made it to the moon on a wing, blood sweat tears, extensive testing and dumb luck.

    At the same time, I am also realizing the possibility of anyone alive under 20 or born in the future to easily access space. It'll just come down to cost, and only cost, after today.

The baseline temperature of outer space is 2.7 kelvins (−270 °C; −455 °F), and once that hatch was opened, that extreme cold would permeate everywhere inside the capsule.
