Those Crayfish looked absolutely yummy and very like Lobster just smaller. .Lobster were so plentiful here years ago farmers used them as ferterlizer and they were regarded as poor mans food. We were at the cottage for the weekend hence the late response to this video,it was warm but lots of showers. The Lobster stock declined but have now recovered well due to strict licensing and size control, an enormous amount are exported to the US and as far away as China, the price varies considerably during the season but we usually manage a couple of good feeds. This vlog highlights your love of nature with some wonderful shots of your environment. Thanks so much Marina and Myles ,take care enjoy historic Oxford a wonderful city .
Cheers from a rather moist Canada XX

Here in Louisiana, USA, we boil, usually 80 to 120 lbs of crayfish, at one time. And we season them with a lot of red pepper. You let them cool down, then twist off the tail. You smash the tail sideways in two. Then pull out the meat. If the claw is big enough you use a mallet or the handle of a solid knife to break it. Crayfish are to eat. If you are serious about catching crayfish, google crayfish traps. Like your blog. Crain

Wow! A couple of those Crayfish were huge. That brought back memories of my dad and uncle netting Crayfish, they would come home with buckets of them. I must say, I often envy your life on the river, it seems so peaceful and uncomplicated compared to the rat race most of the rest of us endure. Thanks for another enjoyable episode. Smooth sailing, see you next week.

Did you just boil them or did you add any seasoning? Here in America we eat a lot of them and suck the juices from the head and bite the meat out of the tail. If you have never seen watch some videos of folks do a low crab mud bug boil. Folks cook huge bags at a time with lots of extra things added in they are so delicious. Those were quite big and I’m sure very good. So enjoy your videos. Susan

Hope you have a licence to catch the signal crayfish? The fines for not having one are horrific and the trap must be an approved and tagged Environment Agency one. Plus you'll need to get permission from the angling club that controls that section of river. Check the Gov. site responsible for licencing. Would hate to see you guys get in trouble.
Lovely ghost koi there. Probably escaped from a pond during winter floods.

they are invasive, non natives. it is illegal to RETURN one to the water if you accidentally catch one. the native species is endangered and protected and fishing is not permitted.

    • @MylesIsAReallyLongName

between 24 - 48 hours. You could potentially keep them in flowing fresh water but for us part of it is cleansing out any toxins which could be found in the rivers

the americans introduced Signal Crayfish into our waterways because they are bigger (in the world) but they have bred like wildfire and the smaller native uk crayfish is losing habitat/food competition.
