  • HOW TO ACTIVATE THE AMPK PATHWAY: In today’s video, I discuss the AMPK Pathway, the impact that it has on the aging process, and different ways that you can activate it.
Deregulated Nutrient Sensing is one of the Hallmarks of Aging, and the AMPK pathway is part of the nutrient-sensing pathway. This hallmark is an important one in the fight to turn back the clock on aging, because in senses the amounts of nutrients that are available to the cells, and regulates a variety of functions as a response.
Activating the AMPK pathway is an important action that you can take if you are on a quest to slow, stop or even reverse the cellular effects of aging. In this video, we’ll talk about why and how to activate it, the benefits of activating the AMPK pathway, how it impacts aging and steps you can take to boost your AMPK activation.

How about Berberine as an AMPK activator? Recent studies have shown Berberine to be comparable to Metformin. Berberine HCl supplement does not require prescription.

That's what I love about this community. All the little tidbits of information that I was unaware of. I knew that berberine was as useful as metformin at activating sirtuins, but not that it was a good at activating AMPK.

    The $100,000 dollar question:
Does AMPK activation burn fat and turn it into energy while in a sedentary state?
If so, wont this cause insulin resistance and eventually metabolic syndrome since cells wont take in the glucose because of glucose toxicity from being sedentary?
If so then exercise is mandatory when voluntarily activating AMPK, correct?

Excellent information. First time I've heard that Konjac is an AMPK activator! Easy to take in powder and I do enjoy their noodles! My question is ... if taking these ampk activators at the same time as a protein meal, does it override mtor??

I suffered a fluoroquinolones toxicity that damaged among other issues my mitochondrial function ten years ago. Among dozens of supplements I've taken last years, found the best one for me has been PQQ 20mg daily last two. Cordyceps Sinensis and Astragalus Membranaceus saved me with the Long QT syndrome one of worst side effects I had. Thanks for reading these words.

Doesn't exercise (resistance) increase mTOR instead of ampk? Confusing... Or is it ONLY HIT or cardio that increases ampk?

Question for all, do you have a favorite high quality supplement supplier. I want to start berberine but it is a real jungle out there with the number of supplement manufacturers. I start with checking if they have GMP certificate, USA source ingredients, COAs when available. I also subscribe to Consumer Lab for independent analysis but they fail to cover many supplements.

    • @LanceHitchings

Generally speaking, I like the Life Extension Foundation for supplements. As for berberine, I would try DoNotAge. Or, Alive By Science is coming out with their version on July 30.

Doesn’t thiamine help with atp? Which in turn will help activate ampk as well as other enzymes important for energy production? I see everyone talking about berberine but that can be harsh on the stomach as it is like an antibiotic/antifungal supplement. Metformin and quercetin decreases b1 levels in the body.
