I' m an old Italian man and I I wonder why I cry listening to your music and I sing when I drink your whisky .. thanks for your kilts, your bagpipes and your whisky.
Whiskey makes all Scottish people sing Alfonso that’s how we deal the the rain ….keep drinking whiskey and carry on singing god bless you auld pal 🏴🏴
Altair Prime this and the Braveheart soundtrack. 2 of the best in my opinion, and I was unaware that this was the original before it was changed for the movie.
Want to feel more GREAT instrumental? Try Vangelis "Hymn", or "canon in d", amazing graze by bag pipes. Kenny g "sound of silence". Music box dancer, and chariots of fire. There are a few others. But this is probably most in the top 10.
Really epic rendition. This song always makes me feel super emotional. There’s something so powerful and uplifting and heroic but it has such a sense of tragedy and sadness.
One of my most favorite musicals. I've watched the movie over and over again then bought the sound track and played it over and over again. This was a magnificent Tattoo. 👍🏽🙂
Fell in love with "The Gael" the first time I heard it. Such emotion-passion-and yet a breath robbing sadness. I too have listened to many versions of this piece-and I am moved by each arrangement.
This is one of the greatest performance spectacles ever recorded! Also, probably the loudest non amped recording of music, ever. Epic! As an American, if I have to go down fighting, this will be playing in my head.
I was scrolling around, listening to different versions of this tune, since I've loved the tune for years. I saw "Military Tattoo" in the title and thought it sounded promising. The music was good, and got better with the addition of the fiddle. But when the massed pipes came in I felt as if I'd been punched in the chest, so moved was I by them. It was as if the heavens opened to make way for the arrival of the armies of God. On the one hand I cried for at least fifteen minutes (during several replays of the tune), and these were not delicate tears gently coursing down my cheeks, but tears violently shed with gulping, racking sobs--tears coming from my soul. At the same time I felt so empowered I wanted to rush into battle carrying nought but a sword! I believe I have some Scottish ancestry, as there were Hamiltons on my mother's side, but most of my genealogical studies aren't bearing much fruit past the American side of the pond. Still, this video was an amazing discovery. I'm still in a state of agitation over an hour after first listening. Many thanks for the person who posted this!
I’m a wee bit late, I know, but I just thought I ought to let you know that Hamilton is primarily an English surname. While it is also a Scottish clan from the lowlands, it does not necessarily mean that you are of Scottish descent because the name has two origin points that are unconnected to each other. If Scottish ancestry is not showing up, this is probably the reason why. The name comes from a town in Leicestershire, I believe. I’m sorry if that’s not what you wanted to hear, but I think that we all deserve to know where we came from, and there’s no shame in being of English descent. I, myself, am descended from people from all across the British Isles barring Wales. I’m aware that this is likely quite confusing, but across the British Isles, you will come across similar or identical names that are unrelated to each other in terms of origin. Take my name, for example. There are the Scottish Johnstone’s and Johnston’s, but the Johnson’s are unrelated, despise their striking similarities. That is an English surname, and some bearing this surname are even Swedish in origin and bearing an anglicised name.
If you know the scene from the 'Last of the Mohicans' you will know it is incredibly sad and tragic. Yet it is a tribute to Dougie Maclean and the arrangers that in the midst of death this is perhaps one of the most life affirming pieces you will ever hear. I have had depression since I was 12 years old. I have never spoken of it and never seen a doctor. What's more I never will. This is my doctor. This is my pill and others like it. Unless you consciously decide to put one foot in front of another then you will simply remain stationary. Life doesn't just happen. You need to go out and create it for yourself, but sometimes, when you're tired or down cast it may need to be inspired. This can help.
No he isn't. Dougie MacLean, OBE (born 27 September 1954 in Dunblane) is a Scottish singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist and record producer.
Oh of course he is. It is by Trevor Jones. Check out the OST of the movie The Last Of The Mohicans. The track is called the Kiss iirc. But if you think otherwise you might tell Dougie so he can sue Warner Brothers and Trevor Jones for stealing his song.
I'm a direct descendant of one of Rodgers Ranger who fought in the seven years war. The Royal Americans 42nd Light foot Infantry. Proud of my British heritage and very proud to be an American! BTW I love my border reiver Scotswoman!
Our heart flies high up in the sky upon this melody..but also upon the Bravery, the Values, the Friendship, the Worship, the Idea ..For Freedom and also Love
I listened this one all of weekend and will do the same thing for this weekend! Greatest band! What a crazy work Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From Viet Nam
A Ballad and an Anthem from a nation that has been conquered....invaded.....persecuted.....fought.....rebelled.....has risen up....has even fought it's own brothers…..a proud nation.....a nation of history and legend...….a warring nation.....a Celtic nation!
Damn the politics involved here, this is such a beautiful, emotionally charged song. I heard it live last night and I cannot even begin to describe the feelings it elicited. To have the bubble of melancholy rise in your chest, to feel in your bones the vibrations from the percussion and bagpipes, to have it resonate deeply in your soul. Truly it is the definition of bliss.

Oh my Lord!! This is SO moving and epic! Last of the Mohicans is one of my very favorite films and I always felt that the music was gorgeous in the emotions it inspires.

Still listening in 2023. It never gets old. So well done. Love when the bagpipes come in.
I still don't understand how Last Of The Mohicans didn't get a nomination for best score back in the day, one of my favorite scores of all time!
I think because there was more than one composer within the piece.
Bryang,
Politics among members of the Academy.
It’s all who Hollywood wanted to groom for their Demon cratic ways
The Gael is actually a composition by Dougie Maclean. Jones borrowed it.
Because it wasn't an original score. They took it from an another artist and used it in the movie

If this does not make the spine tingle or the tears flow...you are not human.
One of the most stirring movie themes ever, masterfully performed.
Not many pieces of music can bring a tear to these old eyes.

Love that music and film.
The Gael , one of the best Scottish tunes ever
A must add to your bucket list ...
the Scottish Tattoo...
what a life experience!!!
This music just brings a lump to my throat every single time I listen to this music one word AWESOME
Love the Scottish bagpipes.
LAST OF THE MOHICANS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES. ♥️
What a power .... thank you all! You all are fantastic musicians.. good bless the Scots and their beautiful land 🏴👍🏻😍
Thank you Neil from Scotland
The combination of bagpipes and drums is just magical!!
Amazing harmony with all those different instruments.
playing the bagpipes in this piece was a massive highlight of my 27 years. I remember the goosebumps whilst hearing the violin solo.
You can not beat the pipes
Ooohhh please show us!!
Would love to hear/see this 💙
Yup, there's not many instruments that can bring a room of adults to tears, i've done it to even the most hardened military types
Always loved the pipes not heard often enough now a fiddle and pipes heaven 😊
This is quite literally one of the best performances out there.
I must have been a Scot in my previous life. The bagpipes sent shivers down my spine.
One of my most favorite musicals. I've watched the movie over and over again then bought the sound track and played it over and over again. This was a magnificent Tattoo. 👍🏽🙂
Absolutely the best rendition of this piece of music. Men have been motivated to win wars at the sound of those pipes all coming in together.
Fabulous playing of the tenor sax, BZ Royal!
