Great video for people that already understand this kind of mechanics... Less annoying music and a little bit of explanation it would be perfect. I know it helped me with step by step process and locations of every screw, and thank you for that.
Okay, so, since you don't explain anything, it appears the problem has nothing to do with the actual mechanism, but rather there is a rotary wheel with electrical contacts on it that the camera uses to detect the position of the mechanism. The reason for the error is that the electrical contacts become corroded and the camera can't detect the mechanism position. These contacts need to be cleaned to fix the problem, though also at 10:25 you are applying force to these spring metal contacts to bend them outward so that they press down harder on the stationary electrical contact pads. This action may not be necessary, and only cleaning of the contacts may resolve the problem. Note that applying excessive force to bend the metal can break off the spring-arms or cause the spring-arms to break free of the plastic disc. If this happens, then the camera is garbage as you cannot obtain replacement parts from Sony. Because the sensor wheel is used to track mechanism position, it is necessary that it be precisely aligned with the rest of the mechanism when reassembled. Timing marks MAY be present on the gear train. But if there are none then it would be a good idea to scratch some marks across the plastic gear teeth before removing the contact wheel, or you may never get it back together in a working manner. Thanks for not explaining any of this, but instead including annoying and useless music that contributes nothing, and rad looking distracting video effect wipes that are unprofessional and cheesy, compared to a standard fade or fade through black.
Hi Dale and thank you for your time to write such a long post :) First - there is a dozen of this mechanism problems which i have sloved and for sure i had to say - JUST CLEAN THE CONTACTS NOT WORKING. Yes ,you can order the N-mechanism from Sony , but the price is not good, compared with the price of the camera. Second - this is not CHANNEL TO LEARN HOW TO BE TECHNICIAN. The reason not to speak is very simple - this is my job, this is my investments since 2007 and for sure i will not give everything free. IF you dare to repair your camera - this video is to give you some directions where to search the problem and how to resolve it. Third - if you don't like the effects and the style of music, ok , i accept that. And how do you recognize which hard work is professional and which is not? Thank you !
One should forget about trying to disassemble these cameras. There are scores of tiny screws and connectors. Repairs best left to professionals with steady hands and way beyond 20/20 vision!
First of, thanks for the tutorial. I managed to somehow fix the open and close problem with the cassette, but it seems like I did something wrong because if I try to open the cassette I only hear gears turning, but the casing does not come up to change the cassette. I tried fixing it by rewatching the video, but the quality isn't good enough, so that I can tell which tiny part is wrong.
Thanks for the insight into getting these things apart. I think the closer zoom later in the video was a good idea. I'm old and many of your viewers might have these old cameras, so i had to turn the music off to concentrate. I would prefer commentary but more texts if you dont speak english well.
Hi Mark :) Thank you for the comment. Yes for small things i try to use zoom but the main reason for this video is to show that there is a solution and if you can't fix it we can do it for you. Regards! Don't forget - if you like the video, hit LIKE and subscribe to our channel for more videos ;)
Hello, thanks for making this video, I appreciate your endeavours to show to others how complicated a kind of repair like this can be to people like me who are not experts or insiders.. I admire also your patience although I endorse for a great part the post of Dale Mahalko as far as I am able to judge in this matter. So please the next time do select some other music than this one, distracting only the attention of what you are doing..Choose e.g. a slow piece of classical work which does reflect more the beauty of this technical job.By the way, I will write an e-mail to you for information about the repair costs including despatching because my Sony DCR-HC23E has exact the same error C:32:11 so I can decide if it is worthwhile to have it repaired by your company or to buy another one.
I need mine repaired!!! My mom passed away when i was 9 and this is the camera she used to take so many home videos. I would love to have it repaired to watch old videos and keep the legacy going. Is there anyway you could repair my sony handycam 20x optical zoom dcr-hc26?
Hi, Thanks for the video. What kind of grease do you apply on the sensor wheel contacts and on the circular PCB just below ? Can you recommend me a brand ? Thank you
hello !! nice video thax for ur efforts .... i have a question only , i have a jvc camera mini dv . gr-d20ek . the motor in the cassette case got a bad gear ..its teeth are hit ... where can find such gears ?? is it possible to find ?
Good description but poor in details. Especially at the "point!!!" ~ 11:00 when the gears are fixed in position. Some details of the positions would be very helpful... It is not very clear, visible the position of the gears and this seems to be the essence of the issue....
I have your video its really good but the gear you repair has brush they must have direction so its not clear to see can you show us the position thank u

I'm having problems with my tape mechanism on a Sony vx1000. I used MG chemicals 407c and Chamois swabs to clean the head drum and the tape still glitches the last 10 min when recording on Sony premiums...Could this solve that problem? or could it be the capstan motor that's faulty?
MARTINEZ VACATIONS hi you should check also the mechanism the two gears which are connected with the capstan (belt). Make one empty cassette without tape inside and put it into the camera then watch if there is no constant speed of the capstan and the gears too
