Using Filon, this will be a Step-By-Step tutorial on how to build your very own teardrop. A Simple backyard build, a project you will be proud of! We will be covering the outside of the teardrop with Filon. This will be a lot of fun… hope you stick around and enjoy the process!
This is Part 3 of my teardrop trailer project - Do It Yourself - video. Starting from the ground up of a 4 x 8 camp trailer. This is a Work-In-Progress, thank you for watching!

Excellent explanation of the process. Thanks from Norway 👏👏
Hello Norway!!! Thank you for watching!
You are doing a great job on your videos and explaining things very good as you go along. Your videos are going to help so many people that want to build a teardrop that haven't done much woodworking.
Loving it so far, in it for the long haul
Thanks DR!
Wonderful
Always informative OBM. I truly like watching you work. In the first 2 videos, I felt I'd seen this before but my mind is shot so at this point it's all new to me. I'm so thankful for having a new camper build video to watch every Saturday again. I was missing it. Make sure you wear them safely goggles and clean up as you go. Thanks so much for sharing my friend. Glad to have you back.
Thank you sir!! Glad to be back! Yeah... the first couple of videos are kind of a repeat of the DIY Teardrop I posted a while back, but thought I would start all over again. We'll pick up momentum shortly and start to see this thing come together. I'll send you a picture of where I am at today. Been lots of fun! :)
Super video! I applauded for $2.00 👏
Awww... Thank you! Thank you for watching!
very informative video
Thank you!
You have some mad carpentry skills. The only thing I hate about these videos is waiting for the next one. 😖 Keep up the good work!
Best videos out there
Thank you!!
In this video, we begin cutting the shape for our teardrop... a little slow going at first, but we'll pick up momentum soon! :)Thanks for watching!
This has been the best video series on teardrops so far . I start mine this weekend and I will be watching these over and over . I couldn’t find video one where you made the drawing ?
Thank you Arizona!! I hope the videos help you in your build!
great job....as always! Jack is still camping, isn't he ?
Thanks Carlos! Jack is back and had a great time! He and his wife enjoyed camping at the coast!
Hey OB,
Could you do up a drawing similar for a NüCamp T@G?
Would love to build that type of TD shape
Had something in mind for a design like this, only no galley in the back. I would perhaps do a pull out galley on the side. We will see what happens, I need to sell a couple trailers first! LOL!
OB Do you have the plans in DWG format?
Sorry, .dwg not available... only in .pdf
Poplar spars!!!!!!!
Good advice... I'll be shopping around!
OregonBatman It’s the lightest and strongest stuff there is for this, one by two.
Most just use a one by two. I laminated two together for each spar, total overkill.
Ralph Kramden could have danced the mambo on that roof without making a dent.
And that's exactly what I'll be doing... laminating one by two's! Makes it solid! LOL! Ralph... I know who that is! :) Dating myself! Ha Ha!
@@OregonBatman Didn't Ralph drive a bus?
I'm thinking of building one. What is a reasonable estimate of cost of materials for one of these? I tried to access the video on the plans but doesn't seem to be working. I might be interested in those. Thanks!
Thanks for stopping by! The total to build a teardrop will depend on what you want your results to be in the end. Some have spent as little as 1000 to 1500 to build while others have invested 5000 to 7000. A good budget to start is around $3500, shop around for materials and save where you can. Here is the link for the video of the plans if you are interested: ua-cam.com/video/_yRy_fSPEMc/v-deo.html
Thanks again!
@@OregonBatman thanks I will be checking out all the vids. I think I'd like it a little taller like 5' but I reckon it can be adapted i.e. add another foot to what you have there. thanks again. Used to live in Bend :)
as I see this is plywood ( md f )is it
yes... for the template... not for walls
SWEAT,
That’s it. I’m firing up my outdoor fireplace and burning all of my tools. They’ve obviously been worthless in my hands compared to yours.
But a note to people following this to build their own teardrop:
Oregon cut this profile/shape to Space Shuttle standards. You are either going to be using a different profile, or don’t care about Space Shuttle standards.
So make sure your base is 8’ to fit on your 8’ trailer, and cut your two sides the same.
No one is going to laugh at you driving down the road if your radius is 2 degrees off your plan, as long as both sides are the same.
LOL! I like to be as accurate as I can... it helps line things up later on! And you are right, if you are off on your measurements a bit, no one will notice overall!
OregonBatman Really weird:
My inbox shows your reply (partially) to my wall construction question, but it hasn’t shown up in my feed yet.
2019 is too complicated for a guy like me born in 1956.
I sent you an email with a youtube link I think you'll enjoy about drawing circles.
Got it... pretty cool little trick!
I’m confused about your wall construction. 1/4”, Filon, 1/2”?
What’s the 1/4”? Your exterior skin? You keep saying luan.
So solid wall? No sticks, and you’re going to run electric lines through there?
Mine was stick. Half inch ply with a thin outside skin of beaded birch , sticks with fiberglass insulation (with wires running through it), and inside beaded birch.
I will be using 1/2" Birch for the inside walls and fastening all of the cabinetry from the outside , I have filon (fiberglass) installed on 1/4" Luan, which will be fastened to the 1/2" Birch once all cabinets and ceiling are installed. This will give a clean look. Could bypass all of that and use 3/4" wall and cover with aluminum to hide all of the fasteners too.
Why do u waste so much time? Halfway through the third video and u haven’t cut even one-side.
Geared more to the beginner... most have never done anything like this before, so want to make sure I covered everything correctly. Looked up your channel to see how you did it... couldn't find any videos.
Less talking more doing
More doin' comin up... have to talk the beginners through it first. :(
