Kiwi's 100 Day Mustang Makeover Journey

- Kiwi is a 9-year-old mustang mare from Devils Garden California. She was my draw for the 2021 Oklahoma Extreme Mustang Makeover... but our journey took a bit of a different turn.
I still wanted to make a journey video for Kiwi, because I feel like her journey has an important message to share. She also still made a lot of progress, just not in the way I was planning or expecting.
We picked up in April and I had her until the end of July. I made the tough call to scratch after I found out that she developed a cataract and was partially blind in her left eye. Luckily, I ended up finding her the perfect home.

She was shaking so much getting into that trailer the first time and then she was smiling in her eyes as she had mastered so many lessons. That made me teary. You've done so much for her and her journey continues. Thank you for sharing her with us.

Sam I am not going to lie....this made me cry. Don't know you to say you chose those songs carefully to reflect the love you have for this sweet mare, but I felt it. And you are right, sometimes we get what we need. God bless

I just binge watched the Mojove stud series and found 2 videos on Kiwi. I wished I had watched earlier. I live in NC and would have offered you and your traveling companion a place to stay for a couple of rest days before your return journey.

Beautiful video Sam and so lovely to see her really flourish at the end despite her struggles. You did a great job and sending all the good vibes for her new home. We often learn the most when things don’t go as we want them 🙄. Annoying but true. And if anything, I think I saw one of your strongest connections by the end.

I remember when you got back after leaving her with a friend. And you were really upset, so was I, I was pissed. I totally understand. So glad you found a great home for her she was a sweet horse.

It's so strange, the timing of this video. I am having a similar issue with my rescue mare - coming along find, re-backing her after rescue from a kill pen, doing well, and then suddenly spooky, tight. Aggressive. We have basically stopped everything until the vet comes out to check her. Horses are heartbreaking.

When you first start using a bit for your mustang does it matter what bit??

Some equine cataracts can be removed by phacoemulsification and replaced by an intraocular lens, but this surgery is not an option for all horses."
