Gosh, I love your videos! The perfect mix of educational, informal and really silly. I always laugh and feel inspired to get back into miniatures. Thanks for what you do!
GREAT JOB!!! I'm a kit and custom dollhouse builder and just started working with electrifying the houses. Thanks for the ideas. Look forward to learning more.
Outstanding! Those chandeliers add a lot of character to the rooms. Great idea on taking down the kitchen white bulbs a notch or two. I think I'll do that in my woodland fairy house. Most of the lights are the yellowish tint, which is more moody, and charming. But I had to go out and buy some for another area and they are kitchen white, which is not really what i wanted. Good technique. DOn't have to go out and buy more. Love the magnet idea too. That is a good solution for a fireplace light. Love this!
It was Megan's suggestion for the sharpie and its just brilliant. I think without it you can feel a little bit limited on your lights if you are trying to avoid the bright white. I am glad it helps you out too and I could share the info! It seems to have helped a lot of people!💖💖
Dear Ara! I love how you can always find a simple way to get what you want! I admire this predicate in people! Can I say you're resourcefull? Well, those magneti, battery lights are practical to install, but They don't seem to be so practical to get them on and off. In my first (and only, so far!) dollhouse, I used what I could get here: a cooper wire mini led string light. it's needed three 1,5V battery. Cons: cost too much, bad for the environment, and I hated when the batteries was almost dying. So... I decided to pull an Ara (LOL) and replaced the battery box for an adapter (4,5V) to use regular electricity. Best decision made! :D
Haha thank you Patricia! There are definitely positive and negatives to both battery and traditionally wired houses. I don't plan to have the lights on too much so I fell like the battery works for me at this moment ;) I hope someday to understand both methods better! Lol to "pull an Ara" 😄
Oh, girl...I love to watch your videos...you teach me, you make me giggle and you are just so fun to hang out with! Thank you for the kind shout-out! I love the way the wood glue coating on the foam core creates such a great surface for painting. Your ceiling medallions are awesome! Such a simple yet functional solution to the perennial conundrum of 'how the HECK to light my dollhouse' without a degree in Electrical Engineering! Yay! Thank you for this: I loved every minute of it. Yep. xoxo😍
Awww thanks friend! Your video did really spark the foam board idea and I was totally stuck so thank you for that! Really this video is just me taking ideas from other smart people and just making it work for my lights lol! That's whats fun about minis I guess... sharing and learning with each other💖💖 Have the best week my dear!
Oh, MAN! Sorry - That should be Oh, ARA! You have just solved soooooooo many problems for me. Have I ever mentioned how creative you are? Well, in any case, you are now my new hero - heroine, whatever - I bow before your talents and creativity and send my thanks to the Miniatures Gods that you entered my miniature life when you did.........Thank you - you ROCK
Haha George😁😊!! I am so glad to hear that and I am so glad this video was helpful for you!! A lot of this was passing on ideas from others so I can't take all the credit (or even most of it). That's what I love about this channel though... we all learn from each other!💖
Thanks for the light link -they had a great selection when this video 1st posted. Now it’s mostly modern lamps. Wish I’d ordered sooner, some of those chandeliers were amazing
Your custom ceiling plates, fit really well over the housings of the chandeliers and using the felt pens was a Brilliant Idea! May I also add that your ceilings look PERFECT for your Adam's Family house, and the chandeliers you've chosen look appropriately gothic and provide an air of mystery
Thank you Elizabeth!! And thanks for the comment about the ceilings ;) It is nice that nothing in this project has to look super perfect!😃 I appreciate it!
Love the way You made the ceiling medallions. I will be using your idea when I furnish my scratch build Victorian. The dimmer lights add so much to your Addams Family mansion!
Thank you Victoria!! They were surprisingly easy to make and I think they add a lot of character to the ceilings (which mine can be a bit boring). Much appreciated!💖
I’ve been dying to see the Aadam’s Family Mansion. I’m also glad you linked the source as I have a dollhouse I built about 30 years ago that I want to light and wallpaper. I’m in the process of painting the exterior right now.
This is great! My main dollhouse is tape wired, but I have a tower that I decided needs a hanging oil lantern. I found a fixture but was really bothered by the bright white light. Once again, Ara to the rescue! I will be purchasing an orange sharpie. Thank you!
I really enjoy watching your videos. This one was fun when you asked what you would use to smooth out surfaces? I knew the answer because you had mentioned it in your stove diy video. Thank you for this very helpful tutorial!
I'm obsessed with lighting, made it into a living. Sharpies suck for tint. You want orange alcohol ink. It's safe for real light bulbs as well, not just miniatures.
This is terrific! I've been afraid to try to install ceiling lights bc I didn't have the right lights. Thank you for keeping the part where it fell - I'm not the only one! Lol
really neat ceiling medallions! For aging, I would personally recommend an inkwash over chalk pastels though. An inkwash settles into all the places where grime and dust build up, while with chalk pastels youre coating parts that have an easier time being cleaned/generally dont get as dirty.
@@BentleyHouseMinis people who do tabletop miniatures have the best info/turorials on them, since theyre constantly working on such a small scale (thats how I learned how to do it), good luck--it can really bring a piece to life!

I saw Heather's windows but would never have thought about using the technique the way you did. I'll have to keep it in mind for future projects. Oh yeah, and buy some wood glue :)

The fixtures are great. I'm definitely going to look into getting some now. I Like how you softened the harsh white tone of the bulbs. I'm surprised you didn't add a bit of aging to the fixtures themselves. I do it all the time. You just have to be careful not to get any moisture onto any connection so dry brushing or using metallic pastes like rub n buff work well. Love the light installment, Ara and the use of sharpies for the bulbs. Another idea would be nail polish...one coat. I use it for so many things, but not my nails. What will you do if you need to change batteries? That's always my problem with installing them with glue.

Hey, I’m new to the channel. You might already have a video about this, but how do you get your lights to light up on their own like that? I have a 1950s dollhouse I am repairing, and the wiring was so outdated, I had to pull it out. It didn’t damage the house at all because the person who did it didn’t do the electrical work properly. If I could create lights like yours, I would rather do that than mess with wires.
Lights can be so daunting. Watching you make all this has really inspired me! My family has a dollhouse that my great grandfather made, and it’s in need of a lot of love, to put it nicely. It’s also super small, probably 1/16 scale or smaller, and the dolls my mom played with in it as a kid are actually too big. Hopefully I’ll be able to make it beautiful again!
I love hearing about family heirloom dollhouses getting their beautiful shine back! I do think there were several doll houses that were 1/16 back then so you are probably right!
Bentley House Minis The main issue is that because it is a custom house, it might not fit any scale perfectly. It might take some experimentation, but I’m determined!
Good morning, do you know if remote control works on battery lights? Once I install them lights I realized I won't have access to the back of the house once in it is in the space. Thank you.
Hello my beautiful Ara, well I love all your videos that are incredible, but I wanted to ask you where you buy the cases for the pile that you put in the lamps ? I mean the one with the thread, I don't know how they are called and I can't find them in amazon, would you be so kind to tell me where I can buy them ?
Hi Ingrid! Do you mean the case that I stored the lights in at the end of the video? It is a scrapbook paper storage unit. They should be available at stores that sell scrapbook materials. Let me know if that wasn't what you meant ;)
@@BentleyHouseMinis Hello little one, no look I was asking about the battery case that you put on it and it has a thread I don't think I can appreciate it well in the video, but it's really the battery case, that one you make with cardboard, or you buy it somewhere and then put the magnet and put the lamp on the ceiling?
I’m new to your channel and dollhouses. I’m really enjoying learning so much. How long do the batteries last? If you had it lit up at a party would they die before the night is over? Or do you get weeks off use?
Welcome to the channel Elizabeth! When I purchased the lights I asked the same to the lady I purchased them from. She said they run off of watch batteries and don't draw much energy so should in theory last quite a while. I have not really put this to the test yet. The ones she had set up on her table had been on all weekend (while people were shopping) and she didn't have to change the batteries out.
Oh yes! Now that you say that I do know what it is. I think that's the same brand as my liquid leading I have had for 10 years! That would be a fun product to do a video over!
I know you are going to tàke a break for a while, and you deserve it.you did an excellent job on the Addams family mansion. Sometime in future, just a thought,of doing"the Munsters. Herman,Lily, grandpa,Eddie, marilyn. Pet dragon under the stairs,e go Egor, pet bat,the coffin phone booth in the foyer, trap door in basement of living room to Grandpa's labatory. Or someone, just a idea.enjoy your rest and keep staying brilliantly creative.peace.✌️👍😂
Oh no I won't. I only post things there that are too small to make an entire video over. My main content will always be here :) And I am sure I will show Grandmamas light again on a video in the future when I am working back in her kitchen ;)

@@BentleyHouseMinis I think something like battery powered lights is something I could handle. The idea of wiring a house is quite intimidating.
When do you set up the outside front? graveyard n cool fountain!? Love the lights!
Thank you! I plan to focus on the front yard and grave yard in October ;) We will do Addams Family October again this year!
Beautiful 😍 ❤️ I responded back to you as soon as I saw your message 😍
Thank you!
@@BentleyHouseMinis you are welcome I responded back to you as soon as I saw your message 😍🥰 😍

@@BentleyHouseMinis you are welcome.
They need COBWEBS now!! lololool
Yes the definitely do!!!
Could you use glass paint on the bulbs?
Hi, where did you purchase the beige or white wall paper with the flowers on the ceiling?
I made it by using paper punches. I punched out the design and glued it onto another piece of paper.
@@BentleyHouseMinis It Looks Great! thank you
Did you ever try Glass Gallery? Used it for years. ❤
I haven't... I will have to look them up! Thank you💖
@@BentleyHouseMinis. It's a product. It's used to create stain glass effects. It's perfect for your bulbs. Much love. ❤
Oh yes! Now that you say that I do know what it is. I think that's the same brand as my liquid leading I have had for 10 years! That would be a fun product to do a video over!
@@BentleyHouseMinis. Yup! You got it! Gallery Glass/Glass Gallery...lol. ❤
Hi, why do you take them off and how do you turn them on and off? Thank you.
What replacement batteries do they take
also glass paints work well
Good idea! Thank you!
👍👍😊😁
I believe you could use a cookie cutter to design your medallions. In my mind I can picture one that is smaller and just a fluted circle, might work?
That's a great idea!
So how do you turn the light off?
I always get worried about glues loosing their stick over the years that can and does happen. I guess you just repair as and when this happens
If you really must cut towards yourself, and wearing gloves is impractical then I suggest wearing a couple of bandaids to protect your thumb.
Great idea!
Thank you Shettikka! I do plan to do a Munsters video someday💖 I love all the suggestions!
14:57 i think your camera probably broke right there until it got its shit together after 6 seconds...
You could leave one bulb broken for the effect. They would be too lazy or busy to change a bulb Lol
So true!
@@BentleyHouseMinis Morticia would say: I love the ambience, and Gomez would say: Oh Tish, you spoke French...☺️
I dont have insta, twitch etc😅 (praying you wont move all your post/upload videos there)
Oh no I won't. I only post things there that are too small to make an entire video over. My main content will always be here :) And I am sure I will show Grandmamas light again on a video in the future when I am working back in her kitchen ;)
