@@put_istine Nope. With all the technological advancements and knowledge we have nowadays, modern instruments are sounding better than strads. The reason they cost so much is because they are works of art. Stradivarius managed with primitive tools to build instruments that only with the scientific and technological resources we have today can replicate, that's what makes those instruments so valuable. Modern instruments are better sounding but they're not works of art.
@@niceguy8935 Not true. Old violins produce a sound that is both more beautiful and more capable of carrying to the furthest reaches of a large concert hall. This belief is somewhat based on fact: the sound of a Stradivari and Guarneri, if played by a virtuoso, is indeed something to marvel at. It is true that there are rare examples of instruments and that this is the reason for the high price, but certainly it would not be accurate to suggest that "with massive technological improvements, we would be able to produce much better instruments nowadays."
@@put_istine You have no fucking idea. I imagine you are not a violinist, or if you are you are a bad one and you never talked to any luthier. Great violinists are now choosing modern violins over great old violins. We are making violins that sound incredibly better. We have better wood, better technology, better knowledge, better tools. Sounds like you're saying the aging of the wood is what makes those instruments sound well wich is STUPID. Those instruments are still valuable because are works of art. That's it.
@@put_istine If you want references: I'm a Curtis graduate, now studying at Colburn. I played on Guadagnini, Villaume, and on the exJoshua Bell strad. I know what I'm talking about. Those instruments are beautiful, but we have now modern instruments that sound just as good or better.
The video does start with Ysaye's Obsession . . . but you are entitled to your opinion. At the very least, you did not misuse the word myriad, simply restate what Bell says in the video and then state that you'd like to hear Hillary Hahn play it. Your dislike of what has become a cultural cliche is very forgivable in contrast.
To bad not one of you or myself have a clue what this beautiful thing sounds like I don't believe theres a microphone or speaker that can make the quality of sound.
IMHO Guanarius' are better suited for a younger, more energetic player. Strads are sweeter. If you try to play sweetly on a Guanarius, it'll sound okay, but not nearly as sweet as a Strad. Possibly vice versa too.
hey you everybody, don't worry you haven't Guarneri. I have cello of violinmaker who is completely unknown, c.a. 100 years old and it is better than Guadagnini and comparable with Antonazzi from 1744. But of course not so terribly expensive. That's possible, you need only patience and look for intensively
its just the way musicians express their emotions when playing music. some can keep it under control and to a minimum, but it feels more natural if you dont feel restricted and just flow with the way your body flows with the music.
Violinism. When a violin player imprints his very being into a violin over many many years, and makes it the instrument that it is. Then hand it over to the next one. And then the next one. Before we know i, we have captured god in the violin. I bet science has a perfectly good explaination for that... Please. I will never understand why an instrument can be worth as much as these things. The people who owns them clearly has too much money.
Personally I think Joshua Bell is the American version of Chinese pianist Lang Lang, too much body movements to distract and disturb audiences from really enjoying the music. He seems to forget that he first and foremost is a musician, not an acrobatic.
he has the WORST body language and facial expressions when he plays....i can't stand to watch him play, it really distracts from how well he can actually play
Whatever the " Jewel" YOU play with those blessed hands YOU make it sound breathtakingly!!!
Love his performances!!! Seen him in person numerous times and he plays with feeling and substance. His music is very full.
I'm stunned such an old instrument can take such intense playing.
yeah, if i had a Guarneri, i'd fall in love in EVERY piece, even Kreutzer and keep practicing for 25 hours a day, man.
Kreutzer himself played a Strad :-P
I want to hear in person this and all the stratavariouses in concert. O DEAR LORD bless those who would be blessed to hear such an amazing experience.
Wow, getting to play that violin! Lucky guy...
And it must be acknowledged this man is also worthy to play it as well
You can hear the difference in the old violin (this one) verses the more modern types. It's amazing🤩
İs anybody know that part's name? 1:13
Ysaye violin sonata n2 first movement. That's the ending.
Que lindo som deste violino! Maravilha!!
Amo el sonido del Guarnieri cuando lo escuche en el teatro de La Plata por Ruggiero Ricci al lado de Sonia LM
Are the convulsions absolutely necessary
Close your eyes.
Josh brings out the soul of this violin.
Ganz Hall?
AMAZING!
what a sound
What compositions is he playing?
Can anyone pls tell me?
+mitesh gaware The first is Ysaye's sonata for solo violin op 27 no 2. Great video on UA-cam of Fanny Clamagirand playing it!
Thanks
+mitesh gaware You're very welcome.
+mitesh gaware Ysaye Sonata #2 "The Obsession"
Ganz Hall, Chicago?
Great violinist!
Anyone else notice the unexplainable bass rumbling at 1:03?? Try with headphones. That was weird.
never been a big fan of bell, but strong playing in the obsession.
I wonder if playing on it tunes it a certain way.
In playability and in sound, we now know that modern instruments are superior.
Wrong. This applies specially for violin. The older the violin, the better the sound. Thats why it may cost over $10,000,000.

que gran contraste entre el violín el maestro y ese señor....
My brain just imploded.
fala sério,além de tocar muito bem o som desse violino é incrivel.
how hard it would have been to play violin back then. but much more affordable in terms of quality to price.
My guess is either Chicago's Mass Transit system or a heavy truck passing by on Wabash.
what is he playing at 1:20?
Ysaye sonata no 2
The Yankee Doodle Dandy bit.I jsut think it belittles such a great violin.Just one guys opinion.
You do know who composed that bit right? 😅
anyone here can make this guarneri sound like joshua do?

Cracking violin and playing. 1:40 - Nnnope. Not supported by evidence at all.
boy he sure does move around a lot
i totally hold with what he says……i have not yet found "my" instrument……but hey…..i cant afford a guarneri
зал акустический так и звучит
Hello, he's playing theYsaÿe sonata n°2

Agreed, especially since this is from 10 years ago.
Yeah, it is weird. At first I thought it was some background noise, but it really is from the video. It's very very low...
I thought he said he was a Strad man? Ha, Guarneri is always the master of converting.

hey you ate fool
Classical George Thorogood.
I question the song choices here.
Is he having a seizure?

90%player 10% violin/bow
fagli usare un violino yamaha
You clearly don't play The Violin so stfu
Alex Rivers I play the violin and it's true
you might be right, but 10% has a lot more weight when you are high level concert violinist
W.O.W.
He's too showman for this instrument. Stick to the strad @ josh
joshua is also quit fit…lol….phoooar!!
:-)
If a violin is locked away in a bank vault is it still a violin?
Boogiewoogie yeah
I was hoping that after the play he smacked the damn thing against the floor

People rarely own them. These instruments are curated by banks or museum who lend them to renown artists.
that's not a violin, that's a bloody canon!
Nope - the Cannon (Paganini's fiddle) lives in Genoa Town Hall ;-)
Personally I think Joshua Bell is the American version of Chinese pianist Lang Lang, too much body movements to distract and disturb audiences from really enjoying the music. He seems to forget that he first and foremost is a musician, not an acrobatic.
creo que los guarneri son mejores que los stradivaius....!!!
he has the WORST body language and facial expressions when he plays....i can't stand to watch him play, it really distracts from how well he can actually play
Physics Only indeed he moves like a modern dancer doing a butterfly.
Physics Only
All that body movement so unnecessary and annoying to watch -- must be that he just can't help himself.
The most overrated violinist of all time.
I agree with that. Recently, his playing has been particularly sloppy. At least his technique is fine in this clip.
I guess Bell's PR guy can out-promote your PR guy, huh?
See: Kremer, Gidon
I'm not a Kremer fan either. I'm more of a Milstein/Szeryng fan.
Hilary Hahn is also high on my list.
Violin not for him. Sound is not surround.Unfortunately.
How many kidneys did you have to sell to get this?
Like this is 16 million dollars
Taht's why those instruments are often properties of banks who lend them to reknown artists.
Theoretical Limit ohh okay
Duh...he's playing yankee doodle dandy.
Sound like copy
